I handhold this lens for bird photography. With my 7d mark 2 and 5dsr the images are stellar. It never seems to amaze me when I think a shot is unlikely and it turns out crisp and focused. I did my homework when I chose this lens and I never looked back.

Best lens.

I saved for many years to get a 400mm 2.8. When I was ready to purchase, the IS III was the latest option. I had rented the V1 and V2 of this lens in the past and I just couldn't believe how light it was! This lens is sharp and the focus is wicked fast.

This lens delivers. Period.

Sampled a friends. Very sharp and light weight, but Sony is dominating with their A9 & A9-ll mirrorless cameras and full compliment of compatible pro lenses. Canon needs to get with it, because I know many former Canon users who have defected for Sony.

Not mirrorless!

Besides providing superb photos during the day, this 400 mm lens with its optics and f/2.8 aperture is a good choice for taking images of the brighter objects in the night sky.  The attached photo of Comet Neowise was captured with this lens.

Excellent for Astrophotography

I own the 400 2.8 IS v1 and borrowed this lens to use at the Indy 500 this year. It was tack sharp and 5.6 pounds lighter than the version I own. The weight savings alone makes this worth the upgrade. This lens was much more responsive than the original and made shooting without a monopod no problem.

Great lens!

Excellent lens. It is fast, sharp, better balanced and much lighter than previous versions. I’m so glad I made the move and upgraded from the Canon Series II to the Series III version of the 400mm f2.8L IS III USM telephoto lens!

Great Lens!

I purchased this lens as soon as it came it and I have been using it for various sports events. I have been shooting varsity high school soccer games 3-4 times a week at different times of the day. This lens continues to shoot amazing shots no matter if it is a noon game, 5 o'clock game or an evening game in down pouring rain it will perform!

Fast, precise and sharp!!

The price tag on this lens will clearly scare someone away but trust me when I tell you it is worth every cent! I love this lens and it’s a true work horse! I am heavy in my sports season and currently shooting varsity soccer. I have tested this lens and it has never failed me once! This was my dream lens and I finally own it, thank you Canon for making a great lens!

Amazing lens!

The Holy Grail of sports photography! The weight is incredible it almost feels fake. I have had for two weeks now and don’t regret anything about this purchase. Super fast focus and tack sharp images !
