Canon eos 1Dx

I purchased this camera 6 weeks ago after renting it for a recent vacation. It suits all of my needs as a photographer, especially when photographing equine sporting events and wildlife. The accuracy of the auto focus, the 12 frames per second and the resolution of the images. When paired with my series of "L" lenses I could not be more pleased.

Amazing resolution when used with L lens

I recently purchased the 1DX mkII after seeing the specs on the new 5dmk4. This is a wonderful camera with the canon image you'd expect. I gave it an average rating because here in 2016 other than the wonderful AF there's really nothing else groundbreaking about the camera. Don't get me wrong, the AF is amazing but ....

It really seems strange to me that Canon would not include features like C Log for for video and the lack of 4k HDMI output is also strange considering that many cameras costing $3000 LESS have these features. These really aren't even features anymore this is the norm other than with Canon. Canon's own XC10 has C Log for under $3k but for $6k it's not included?

I have to say that for the first time in years I'm disappointed with Canon video. Shame.

Canon C300, 5DII, C100 User adds 1DX MKII

I come from a stills background, and transitioned from another brand to Canon for their color science and the video features in the then-cutting edge 5DmkII. As I've become more interested in producing good video, I shopped for a good HD video machine. Camcorders are great devices, but their poor color science and small sensors made them unacceptable for my own uses. Like everyone else, I was very interested in the FF mirrorless realm. After testing one, I realized that I'd have to use adapters of varying qualities to shoot with my terrific Canon glass. Since I only need 1080p HD, I looked into the 1DX.The build quality is phenomenal, and encourages field use. The still image capture capabilities are truly breathtaking...especially the customizable focus capabilities, which are even useful to non-sports shooters. As I get my video workflow perfected, I'm disappointed, however, in the lack of Canon support for the 1DX's video features. Simple firmware updates would unleash the capability to output clean HDMI signals for external recording, and well as allow the addition of an Slog-3 recording curve, to capture the most data. The sensor in the 1DX is amazing...but most of that technology is lost at capture for video. A decision by Canon to update the 1DX to clean HDMI and Slog-3 would enable hybrid shooters who DON'T NEED 4K video to enjoy all the capabilities of this terrific camera. This wouldn't impinge on professional video shooters who insist upon 4K capture...it would just enable shooters who are covering important daily events, the bread and butter of Canon and the foundation of it's reputation, to output professional products for their intended, limited audiences (print and online. After all, clean HDMI was updated for the consumer-oriented 5DmkIII already.I look forward to the day Canon decides to support it's loyal customers who use Canon cameras and lenses to push their creativity. I enjoy shooting the EOS 1DX and many photographers would be thrilled to renew their enthusiasm for this terrific camera. I'd recommend this camera to others, with these basic caveats.

Terrific camera, held back by firmware

I received my camera last week to replace and or use along side my 1D MK III that is still working very well. I like the feel of the camera and the new one is much faster and off course the pictures are much better with the increase of the size of the sensor.

Speed, Speed,. Speed

This camera is everything I need and more. I am a professional photographer and use this for concerts, weddings, and real estate and it is amazing! Absolutely worth the money.

Great Camera!!!

This is my review of the Canon 1DX. This camera is considered to be the flagship pro photographer DSLR manufactured by Canon, which was released originally in the spring of 2012. As of this writing today February 5th 2016, Canon just announced 3 days ago their upcoming successor to the 1DX, the Canon 1DX Mark II. Regardless of the new exciting news, the Canon 1DX still packs a magnificent technological punch!

The first time that I picked up this camera, I could not believe that so much power could be encased in such a device. the 1DX is definitely a big camera and it is certainly built like a tank, but it was easy to getting used through the user interface software because I'm familiar with several other Canon cameras. One of the biggest highlights about this camera that I'm so impressed with is the insanely fast 12 FPS (frames per second). When using the camera to shoot sports and fast action movements, the 1DX does a marvelous job at capturing subjects frame by frame with ease. The high 12 FPS is also aided by an extremely advanced and super-fast autofocusing system with 61 points. Even if the first one or two shots comes out of focus, the rest of the shot and hi continuous mode adjusts quickly in focus and will make your images will be tack sharp on your subjects.

Despite having a lower 18-megapixel sensor compared to most DSLR's on the market, the 1DX still produces fairly detailed images full of rich color rendering, sharp contrast and clean images. Those clean images are aided by a very sophisticated ISO light sensitivity system which ranges from 100 to 51,200. It's amazing how this camera produces clean images still in low light environments and situations.

The Canon 1DX is Canon's first 1D series with both a full frame sensor, high frame per second, HD 1080p video and fully equipped with the highest specifications required for pro sports photography. The 1DX is best suited for sports, wildlife, and professional events. The 1DX is without compromise and it is still leaps and bounds beyond in today's marketplace. If you're in need for one, life is too short so go get one!

Flows Like Butter

Taking photographs with the Canon 1DX is enjoyable, and selecting the photographs to keep, very satisfying. Even though I was concerned that the camera body with a 70-200 lens and a 2x teleconverter would be too heavy for me, I have enjoyed taking photographs with the 1DX because of the incredible clarity and beauty of the photos. The camera weight has been no problem on short photographic outings.

I have had the camera for two weeks and have taken photographs of an indoor wedding rehearsal/rehearsal dinner/wedding reception dinner, and outdoor subjects in varying light conditions, and results have been good.

The camera was a fantastic investment because of the quality of the photographs and the versatility of its settings!

Phenomenal 1DX

I pre ordered the 1dx. Never looked back. Wonderful piece of equipment. Would purchase it over and over again!

Best I've ever used

If you can't get the picture with tis camera you need to quit taking pictures!!!!!!!!!!

One feature about utilising a camera professionally is that it must be able to take a few knocks and, perhaps more importantly be fully functional during inclement weather. We were on a shoot in a jungle where it rained for the preponderance of the time, but the |ESX 1DX stood the test with considerable ease. There is no better professional SLR on earth; this camera is truly superb!!!

THE PROFESSIONAL'S CHOICE

I simply can not state how fabulous the 1DX is. I shot for years with a 7D with superb results. The 1DX put it over the top with the results. There is not a camera available that matches the performance of this camera

GREATEST CAMERA I HAVE EVER OWN

This camera is truly the ultimate SLR. I am thrilled to own it. I shoot stills 99% of the time. So I was a disappointed when Canon released another full body camera with video. However, with the recent reduction in price I could not pass on the opportunity to own this wonderful camera. I have always shot photos with Canon since the days of the AE-1 and have never regretted the choice of Canon. There is a learning curve but I always welcome the challenge of learning new equipment. This camera encompasses all I need in a camera. I love the full frame, the fast fps, speedy focusing and of course the HD video capability. I guess I'll have to remember to use the video more often since the focus capability has improved so much. I now have to decide what camera(s to keep or let go. I own a 5D mkII, 1D mk III and a 7D mk II along with this new camera. I am keeping and using all for now. All of the Canon bodies and the lenses I collected have provided me ample options for all types of photographs. For now I am shooting almost exclusively with this camera to learn everything there is to know. I like the feel of the full body although it has some weight to it. I feel like I can shoot any type of photo in any conditions. Thank you Canon.

No regrets

I love this camera. At first I was disappointed, I bought it with the 24-70 II but it was focusing behind the subject. After quick calibrations I can't stop talking about it. I find that I'm spending less time in Adobe Light Room making adjustments. Time is money. If you can afford it buy it, you won't be disappointed. I used the 5d mark 2, This is a major upgrade.

Fast, sharp images and excellent exposure.

very fast motor drive and AF is excellent. The only horrible thing about the "intelligent viewfinder" is that the AF points are translucent and shooting in continuos servo AF the pare practically invisible and VERY hard to see. I missed MANY shots because of this. Also using primes 1.2 and 1.4 the focus points become even more transparent and in bright daylight are almost invisible. Canon needs to go back to the old way AF points which were bright red and clearly visible as with the 1D Mark IV and Canon 5D Mark II ( The 5D mark III and all newer cameras has this incredibly stupid "Intelligent viewfinder"! Iso is very good with some noise reduction up to 12800

I have been waiting years to own this camera and with the recent price change now I do. I have used Canon cameras since 1972 and now I have one of the best. I love all of the features and full frame and frames per second is what makes it awesome.

Finally

I'm so impressed at the quality of photographs which emerge from this camera. There's quite a learning curve, and in 2 weeks I've only begun to scratch the surface of what the 1DX is capable of.

It is a heavy camera, but packed with great features. The shutter speed makes it a great camera for action shots. It has a mammoth ISO range which allows for great low-light images.

A great professional camera

I've used the 1Dx for almost a year at full, packed, crowded events where it has taken a beating like no other and still performs flawlessly.
Focusing is faster than the other cameras, I think because it has a separate Digic chip dedicated to focusing. This is true in sports and at parties. Highlight control (a form of HDR) allows me to use a flash to show the fur of a white fur coat in a dimly lit party while attaining proper exposure of the person.
I regularly shoot indoors in low light of bars/restaurants at ISO 16,000 when I have to and it allows great website use images. At ISO 6400 the Speedlite 600EX-RT helps focus quickly and at 1/128 flash power at F2.8 at six feet it preserves background lighting. That means I don't blind the patrons or interrupt the mood. There is noticeable grain at ISO 16,000. ISO 3200 seems to be the limit before getting grain if I know I'm going to print an image.
The fast 14 FPS requires practicing a quick pause to re-atain focus with moving people. The fast FPS allows capturing the expression and moment better than professionals using slower cameras when we compare photos afterwards.
The live-view mode focusing is still much slower.
It is cumbersome to switch live-view shooting from movie mode to still mode, but when you do, it allows fantastic flexibility. You can even change ISO while filming. It is true that you can set a fast shutter speed, make a 1920x1080, 30fps movie and make a still frame using Canon's software and post a photo that people will swear is a “normal picture” and have no idea it was pulled from a video.
The custom buttons allow the AF-ON button to Focus/Expose and the * button to go to full program mode. It's brilliant that some Speedlite Functions can be set with the Custom Shooting Modes. I wish the Flash Exposure Bracketing would be remembered in Custom Shooting Modes. My favorite feature is the quick access to HDR Exposure Bracketing by holding down the two MODE/DRIVE buttons.
Oh, and be sure your camera bag will hold it.(The Canon camera bag holds it perfectly.) The 1Dx is big and has powerful recognition and status with fellow photographers.

1Dx A Workhorse and Genius

The autofocus speed is incredible and image quality is amazing. I have shot it exclusively over the last year and it continues to deliver. Numerous covers, gallery shots and assignments have come out of this camera. My only complaint is that it get excessive sensor dust/oil spots on the sensor and have to send it to CPS every few months for cleaning.

Canon prd rev

I wanted this camera since if was introduced to the consumer world. I fought with myself over the price for a long time. I downloaded the manual and read it prior to buying the camera. It takes a lot to get use, sometimes overwhelming. I do 90% action sports photography. This camera is absolutely unbelievable to put it mildly. I just finished shooting an AMA Pro flat-track motorcycle race where the bikes reached speeds in excess of 137 mph. I was able to track and shoot the action at 12 fps using a 70-200L lens with absolutely no issues at all. I shot these bikes within 5 feet of my position and was able to capture the facial expressions (which in itself is almost impossible to accomplish). Forget the price. This camera is the utmost piece of digital equipment on the market today.

Not disappointed

I just purchased my new EOS 1D X and photographed some high ISO images with and without a flash. I was amazed at the fact the noise was just not to a level that ruined the image. I shot with a ISO setting of 51200. I am very impressed with my new EOS 1D X. If you want to be the best then you need the best!! The Cajun.

Great Camera

As a Wedding Photographer, I depend on the Best Camera and Glass Possible. With the Canon EOS-1DX Body, now I can shoot the photographs that I always envision with much ease and comfort.

To much Amazement, the 1DX seems understand exactly how I feel on any challenging assignment. This camera allows me to Perform and Be at my Best in Every Single Moment, for example while shooting Weddings.

The 1DX gives me the peace of mind that I know that I will get the photograph that my clients are looking for. I have used every Canon EOS camera available since the 1980's and today. I can now say that this is Canon's real true Flagship camera of all time.

I really have no other words to say. The success of my work is due largely because of the kind of tools I use. Canon has truly made the Ultimate Go Anywhere, Shooting Dynamo of a Camera… Mahalo Canon for the 1DX.

The Best Wedding Photography Camera Ever

i am in awe about the 1dx camera. it is the best camera by far i have ever used. i had previously been a user of the alternate brand but this camera totally blows me away. the focus image quality ease of use layout of the controls and low light capability are wonderful. when i use the camera with a great telephoto lens the canon 300mm 2.8 the images cannot be believed. i thank canon for giving us this wonderful camera.

amazing machine

First, I love the camera. Being a professional Cinematographer I have discovered the world of DSLR with the first 5D mark II, and now the 1 DX. But I am surprised that Canon seem to forget the buyers of their 1DX, when offering CLEAN HDMI out of the cheaper 5D mark 3, and not the 1DX? What happened there?
I would love for canon to try to remember to facilitate the Professional segment also, and give us the possibility to get Clean HDMI and record externally. The 1DC is not an option. To pricy for what it can do.

Why NO CLEAN HDMI????

No complaints.  I love the high sensor sensitivity so I can shoot high ISO without noise.  The frame rate is great and the focusing is superb.  This is my first full frame sensor so I am missing fewer shots.

Great barely used 1Dx

at 1st it was little confusing about the buttons
and the programs then after I start playing around with it I was totally hook 
their great on low light photography 
portrait, sports.  you name it. its a super camera 
anyhow I get so paranoid every time I bring this camera on the streets spacially when strangers looking at my camera

one of the best camera I ever had

When in doubt, I always pull this camera out! It does the job really well! Executed everything I demand it do to! I went with this camera mainly for its low-light performance and the ability to focus anything my eye wants to focus. I'll make this review short. This camera made my life a whole lot easier! It's any professional photographer's dream. Heck, it made my dream come true! Thanks Canon!

The "Go to" Camera

as both an indoor sports and portrait photographer, I've rented this camera numerous times, while saving up to buy it. Nothing matches this body for high ISO performance, almost noise free at 32000 with an awesome burst rate when needed ... black dogs running at top speed in low light are tack sharp and the detail is A M A Z I N G !!!

this camera is soooo worth the price, I'm already saving for a #2 :)
