This is my first refurb product purchased from Canon, and I am so happy with it!  I had this same model video camera but lost it on a recent trip one week before I needed to videotape a youth event.  I started shopping for a replacement, but the cheapest on another website was $40 higher and only had a 90-day warranty, so I decided to look on Canon's website.  I found this refurb at a great price with free shipping and a 1-year warranty.  The camera looks new and came with all of the regular accessories (also new.  As for the camera itself, the video is excellent for a consumer grade camera and does a great job (that's why I replaced my other one with the same model).  Lightweight, easy to use, mic and headphone jacks, this has everything I need.  I would not hesitate to buy or recommend these refurbs to anyone.

Fantastic deal and includes a 1-year warranty

While I consider myself to be somewhat learned about camera operation, I found this rather easy to get up and going. For simplicity you can just leave it in auto and it performs fairly well. It did seem to over-adjust to lighting changes, but not too dramatic. Step up a notch and set it up for  whatever you need and it chugs along happily. I guess my only real complaint was the zoom actuator. I felt it was a bit too touchy with no soft start. Perhaps I just need to get the feel down, but I wish it would have been a bit more smooth.

Excellent Image

Our team has videoed local events every week for the past 2 years. Weddings, dance recitals, funerals, school plays, etc., etc. We use four of these. Then we upload to YouTube and Vimeo. These cams have features found, in the past, on cameras costing 5 to 8 times the price. Our team gets excellent results with these. cams.

Amazing camcorder: We bought 4

We have been producing commercially sold DVDs and digital downloads for the fitness industry and food/cooking since 2000. We have owned a number of different brands of cameras, each having their own pros and cons. Recently we decided to upgrade our handheld cameras that are mid-level camera items that also need to record at production level quality. After a great deal of research we chose the Vixia HF R600. We could not be happier with the choice!

From the use of a personal camera, you will get rich color, depth, multi-focus on face detection so everyone is in focus. The sound quality is exceptional on playback. If you are a first time camcorder owner, who shies away from electronics, this is extremely easy to use right out of the box. Mount the battery, charge for 5.5 hours for full charge, open the screen which powers up the camera, and pop in an SD card (not included - we find 16GB to be a good starter card that will allot you enough space if you don't transfer the files quickly, but priced reasonably regardless of store. The included battery at full charge gives you just shy of 2 hours of power (115 minutes to be specific). The camera can also be run plugged in with the charging cable. Another battery is available for purchase which holds a longer charge time. The default settings of the R600 at power up first time, are great for most filming situations so just push record and start filming.

The auto settings the camera defaults to are more than adequate for a first timer. It easily auto adjusts to macro settings when necessary, and gives you host of filming options from different Cinema settings, sepia, old film, retro, black and white, not to mention the ability to customize settings specifically which is great for users like us who understand and use more than the standard built-ins. Although we have simply used the built-ins quite often as they are wonderful on their own.

For the more advanced user, we find this camera perfect for transporting between locations, the ability to record whether plugged in or running on battery is great, the sound quality is exceptional and what we really appreciate about this camera is the ability to adjust the audio recording options. This R600 allows you to select from standard, surround, speaker/speech, nature full sound, and noise reduction. In our situation we end up filming in locations where there is a great deal of background noise and the built-in software for noise reduction audio recording works amazingly well. It saves hours of editing time!

The next bonus to us is something not commonly found on most mid-level cameras, but was a huge selling point is the ability to add an external boom or lapel mic. This camera does NOT have a hotshoe for accessory mounts, but does have a 3.5 jack to allow for additional mics whether standard or bluetooth. Both work perfectly.

Another selling point for us were the threads on the housing of the lens which allow for additional attachments. While the auto settings and software built in offer exemplary adjustments for lighting and focus for most users, there are those of us who still need more control over the visual of the environment and subject. Whether filters or additional lenses - this 43mm ring thread allows for use of all of them.

It also has a headphone jack for monitoring and has on-board editing capabilities, which would be more than adequate for home users and useful for simple, on-the-go quick editing for users like us who are looking to upload quickly to the net for promotions and social media. There are features within the software to add additional effects during filming as well as transition effects of fade and window shade for opening and closing effects.

You can take stills during filming or during playback which is a feature we really appreciate for creating social media quick stills for promotion.

Another additional feature which we did not find online, but saw within the specifications is that you can download an app for Android phones to control the camera remotely. This was another bonus to us.

The only negative point to this device in our opinion is the low light setting, which while the camera already records well indoors in dim lit situations, for darker settings in a room, you really would need to be using a tripod and limited movement of the subject as it does pixelate some if the subject or person filming is moving a great deal.

Overall - a great choice and we could not be more pleased.

Perfect for our business and production studio

Don't waste your time with any canon camcorder, especially this one. I had one, and these camcorders are made out of the cheapest materials known to man. Don't waste your time with the dull video of canon. Do yourself a favor if you want nice video quality at a reasonable price, go buy a better camcorder.
