B&W XS-Pro Digital NANO Multi-Coated (MRC) Clear #007 Filter is for color as well as black and white photography. It also serves as a permanent lens protector. The value of a clear filter covering a lens has been well-documented over the years. How many stories have we all heard about photographers dropping lenses and smashing front elements  With a front lens protection filter on, the chances of preserving the valuable glass in your lens increases many fold. Shall we call it a form of inexpensive insurance.   B+W XS-PRO Digital Filter Series .  All XS-Pro filters employ a newly developed mounting ring that is especially suited for SLRs with wide angle and zoom lenses. The extremely thin design prevents the mounting ring from vignetting in even the widest shots. B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters have front threads for mounting additional accessories such as filters, screw on shades and lens covers. XS-Pro filter rings are made of brass and are matt black to prevent reflections.  Schneider's Proprietary MRC Coating  MRC refers to the unique Multi Resistant Coating developed by Schneider-Kreuznach, which comes as standard on B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters. It provides perfect anti-reflection, brilliant colors and high contrast. Only Schneider lenses and B+W filters are protected by this extremely resistant multi-layer broadband coating (eight layers on both sides). In addition, the scratch-resistant, water- and dirt- repellent outer layer makes it easier to clean the glass surface. Due to its low residual reflection (0.5%) MRC prevents ghosting or double images, which can be caused by return reflections from sensors.  Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) with Nano Technology  The nano coating is an outer layer of protection that comes standard with all XS-Pro Digital MRC filters. The nanotechnology based characteristic (lotus effect) produces a better beading effect with water making the cleaning of this filter even simpler and faster than ever before. MRC nano has an improved outer (8th) layer over regular MRC  This filter uses our XS-Pro Digital mount which is especially suited for DSLRs with wide angle and zoom lenses. It has a front thread for additional accessories such as lens caps or hoods. All XS-Pro Digital mounts are made of brass and are matte black to prevent reflections.

Great value

These are great filters! Super easy to clean, nothing ever really sticks to the glass. They are fully transparent unlike some cheaper uv filters. And super thin, it feels as if you are pretty much adding nothing to the front of the lens but it's now protected. I'll be buying these for all my lenses now.

The best filters

I've used many different filter brands over the years, and I've found that B+W are always reliable.  This one is no exception.  It's completely clear and free of distortion, and very easy to clean due to the nano coating.  The frame is super thin but still has front threads to add another filter or get a good grip with your lens cap.  It's easy to remove as long as you don't twist it too hard onto your lens.

Tiny 49mm size that cover my FE 40mm f/2.8 G lens. Works as expected. Brass ring helps in screwing on and off and love the sound when touched.

Brass is a Blast

Very clear filter without any additional colour cast. It does add flare if lens is pointed directly at the light source - I am not sure if any filter can avoid doing this - filter introduces an extra reflective surface by being there.
Outside is easy to clean. I always use B+W for their quality. Nikon NC is very nice as well but higher priced.

Great filter

A perfect fit for the Leica Cl's 18mm lens. Images are not negatively impacted by using this filter and protecting a lens that cost $1000 is common sense.  Don't take chances.

It does what it?s supposed to do. Protects my lens while being invisible.  Having had one expensive tele lens catch a direct hit from a line drive while photographing a baseball game, I can appreciate what this clear glass filter does.  It saved my tele lens.  Don?t leave home without one.

Nice Filter

The filter is good. I DOES catch flair, but I'd rather risk that, than cleaning the lens, which I know I'd have to do. Other than that doesn't seem to affect quality of the picture, and the "MRC nano" coating is extremely hydrophobic, which make it easy to clean from stuff that sticks/dissolves in water. 

The star taking off because other things, like the new lenspen "clear carbon", doesn't go off this surface easily. And the filter comes with some kind of residue from the factory that if you try to remove that goes around, unless you apply extensive mechanical cleaning with tissues.

I will use it.

Nice filter

I purchased this filter a few years ago, put it on my lens, and never took it off. It had absolutely no effect on my photographs, but? One day while taking photographs, I fell from an embankment about 8 feet. I landed on my camera, and while I suffered multiple broken bones and completely smashed the filter, the lens survived with just a few minor scratches, as did the camera. I immediately purchased another filter!

Never leaving home without it

B + W filters are my go to brand and this one didn?t disappoint. I don?t hesitate to recommend this brand.

Best Filters

This filter is so flawless that I had to touch the glass to be sure it was there.  It doe not distort images at all.  There are no ripples, no scratches and no shine.  Beautiful!

B + W 58mm XS-Pro Clear MRC Nano

The B+W has slightly more reflection than the Nikon NC filters. The reflection is also more bluish than Nikon. I only see this when shooting directly into stage accent lighting, so I just remove them when I have to get those shots.
The MRC nano is definately easier to clean than the non-nano.
For the difference in price from Nikon, I use these on lenses that are more likely to be exposed to harsh environments, although I have yet to have to toss one of either brand.

Next best clear filter to Nikon NC

B&W filters are great because they are sturdy, built tough, do not interfere with images, and all around a nice lens protector.
