Sturdy, light-weight travel tripod with sturdy carry case. Highly adaptable, AirHed 1 ball head is excellent and well configured, but I would suggest an L-Plate for use with heavier body/lens combos it's hard to fully tighten the ball head clamp when the camera is at an angle. I was seeing very small amounts of creep on portrait star shots over 30 second exposures. An L-plate would eliminate this.

Brian is my favorite guy, he's that good! Strong and light, with flexible and useful configurations. A lot of cool features and easy to use. Comes with a very nice padded case. The blue and copper metallic touches have a rich glow, not screamingly bright. Very pleased with this purchase.

This tripod is by far the best I have ever had. In fact I have just sold two older tripods. It comes with its own ball head, though you could substitute a ball head you already own. The folded size is perfect for packing or carrying on an airplane. The versatility of this tripod allows it to be used for macro work, taking vertical images, and use for holding flash units. Of particular value to me is the ability to easily convert the tripod into a monopod. The height of the tripod can be extended to over six feet and it is still quite sturdy. Before buying you may want to watch the numerous youtube videos produced by 3 legged thing as they explain why their design is better than most. They are also amusing to watch. My only fault is that the company should include better instructions or at least have them available on line.

The 3 Legged Thing x1.1 Brian Evolution 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod System with AirHed 1 Ball Head is a stylish compact travel tripod that features a removable leg, leg-spreading and a reversible center column that allows for low angle or macro shooting down to 4.7". The removable leg when topped with the included 4" column extension and the tripod's mounting plate, becomes a 51.5" monopod for gun-and-run scenarios.
The x1.1 Brian's legs are constructed from 8-core carbon fiber while the center column is made from 10-core carbon fiber, substantially reducing the weight to only 2.9 lb, while providing the stability of heavier tripods and supporting cameras up to 17.6 lb. It folds down to just 16.5" for easy packing and comes with a soft case and strap for storage and transport.
The 3 Legged Thing AirHed 1 Magnesium Alloy Ball Head (Blue) is a stylish head for a DSLR or film camera that encourages precise adjustments and fast setup changes. Composed of an aircraft-grade T6061 magnesium alloy, the sturdy head supports loads up to 17.6 lb, so it's suitable for all cameras and most lenses.
The AH1 head features a robust knurled knob that operates the Arca-style quick-release clamp. Additional knurled knobs manipulate the ball head's pan lock and ball/tilt lock. The pan-lock knob features an inset tension control that affects the play of the ball's movement.
The included quick-release plate, also magnesium, is compatible with BlackRapid's R-Strap camera slings, by way of its FastenR-T1 camera screw. The 1/4"-20 camera screw's flip-up D-ring allows you to tighten it to your camera easily. This ring allows you to attach your camera to an R-Strap and quickly move it from around your neck or shoulder to the AirHed 1 without removing the sling.
