About 3 Legged Thing X4a

The 3 Legged Thing X4a Jack Evolution 2 Magnesium Alloy Tripod System with AirHed 1 Ball Head (Blue) is awesome all-round Mag Alloy tripod system. With just 4 leg sections in new 26mm Stealth Magnesium Alloy, Jack has amazing rigidity and stability. Designed for multipurpose use, Jack folds to a neat 500mm and extends from 135mm to beyond 2m, making Jack the tallest, lowest alloy tripod in range.

Jack's patented multi-functional use makes it one of the most capable and user-friendly tripod. Innovative system enables a number of modifications to transform the capability of Jack. 3 Legged Thing X4a Features

  • Tripod: Structural Integrity - Constructed of Stealth Magnesium Alloy, the 26 mm (upper section diameter) legs offer excellent lateral and torsional strength
  • Tripod: Friction Locks - Evo 2 Friction Locks with safety double break-point and easy-grip rubbers
  • Tripod: Durable Finish - Retoned matte black anodizing and triple machined magnesium alloy parts for better durability and smoother finish
  • Tripod: Inverted Column - With the column inverted and the legs fully extended, the user is able to lower the camera to the floor for macro photography. With an optional adapter, you can mount a laptop or iPad at the collar of the tripod to monitor your images while shooting tethered
  • Tripod: Tri-mono Mode - Extending the center column with the legs retracted and spread to 55deg.is known as Tri-mono mode. This is a much better alternative to putting expensive gear like long lenses on the ground and keeps them at the ready while shooting with other camera/lens in situations
  • Tripod: Extra Stability - Re-engineered leg mechanisms, for greater stability, smoother and easier use. You can completely remove the column and mount the head or even your camera directly to the tripod collar topped with the camera platform, providing the rigidity required for longer exposures
  • Ball Head: Double bubble on the rear of the quick-release assembly for precise leveling
  • Ball Head: 90deg. slot for portrait orientation

Solid and very versatile

By

My wife bought me this tripod a couple of months ago, and I have only just had an opportunity to try it out. It's the first time I've felt compelled to read the instructions - this tripod does an insane amount! I'm currently using an Acratech head, and this tripod folds over it beautifully. It's solid - four sections is probably more than I would usually want, but there's no flex or any twist in the legs when extended. I wouldn't use it at full height with a camera, unless just using it as a stabiliser (like a monopod), but it's awesome for using with strobes and I used it to hold up a scrim last week. The best thing about this is that it goes real low. I was shooting some macro last week, and inverted my camera to sit at ground level. I have a nova flex gooseneck with a flash, which can mount on the other end of the column (this thing has so many mounting points!) and the results were awesome.

Terrible legs for the price!!!

By

from Southeast U.S.  -  Pro Photographer

Bought these after hearing some good things and when they arrived I was incredibly dissapointed! The construction is absolutely terrible, very cheap and weak! They are incredibly unstable, there is no way one could get sharp long exposures, they are just not stable at all. The only good thing was they were tall and lightweight. I would 100% NOT trust any camera on them!!! For an extra $100 you can get way better Slik, Gitzo or Manfrotto legs (they just are not as tall).
