WORTH THE MONEY

I use this for landscape, macro, indoor light painting. The tripod is lightweight, easy to carry, and very, very stable. Legs explode and fold up easily, and the locks never, ever slip. Four sections per leg allows great flexibility when working outdoors, which is my tripods' chief function. The tripod holds the Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head very securely, holding my D7000 in place like Gibraltar. This is just a great, great, great tripod. I can whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone needing a lightweight, rock-solid, professional-caliber tripod. A great deal for the money.

Exactly what I need

I was looking for a quality lightweight travel tripod and this is it. I had tried others that were too short, but this one is a nice balance of weight, strength, folding size, and extended height. This is going to South America with me in a month and many more places after that.

Stability - Size - Cost - Features

After a massive amount of research, I selected this one for its combination of stability, versatility and compact size - it fits in a carry-on.

Excellent Value and Quality

I use this Tripod for travel and goofing off. I needed something that was not to long and light weight. This is the best value especially when you compare warranty and quality to other products. I added a Gitzo ball head to make it as light as possible without a quick release (QR) as I have a Manfrotto QR if I need it but I rather save the weight as it just over 3 LBS with the head. Slight more wight that the Gitzo carbon Fiber tripod I was looking at but more versatile and 1/3 the cost.

Solid, light & Convenient Field Tripod

I purchased this to use as a portable alternative to my heavy but stable aluminum Manfrotto tripod. I intended to use it to mount a panoramic head and ultimately the Gigapan Epic Pro. At first I was a little disappointed to see that there was a free bundled carbon fiber tripod (another brand) with the Gigapan epic pro, which I later bought. On comparison the Manfrotto is superior in every manner with the soul exception of a hook to add a counterweight. The ball head is very good. I had not used a ball head before and was worried about how they would hold up with a heavy rig, but the Manfrotto is up to the task.

Great Travelers and Hikers Tripod

I purchased this tripod for a trip to the desert southwest and visiting national parks. My plan was to take it on short day hikes to photograph scenery and wildlife. This tripod is less than 3 lbs and folds small. It strapped easily to my day pack and it unfolds and folds easily. I did not experience any strong windy days on my trip, so for my use, it was stable with the weight of a Canon 7D and a 70 - 300mm lens. I would highly recommend this tripod for anyone considering it for travel or hiking or normal use.

Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 4 section tripod

Receive my tripod and immediately used it for pictures of birds in my back yard. Since have taken senses and city sea scapes at night. What an improvement from my old tripod or hand held shots. Really nice and super light. A must have!

Light, fast set up, size easy to store

The tripod is excellent for portability clean up and over all use. I use with a Action head quick relaease head. Con first time used outdoor conditions where ground was wet. I now avoid or use duct tape.(One small rubber foot came off had to dig to find.) The feet are very slender/ spike like and will sink on all loose or soft ground. Paddle feet available, but very expensive in my view. At this price point my opinion they need be included. 2nd con... matter of height. I'm 6 ft... I use with center post extended to get comfortable viewing height. I suppose if changed the ease of storage might be compromised.

Awesome tripod!

This tripod is awesome. Carbon fiber makes the tripod very light and stable during outdoor usage. At first, I considered 190CX3 then center column cannot move in horizontally, so I considered 190CXPRO3, but with about $10 more I can get shorter (3") one by going with 190CXPRO4. Obviously this will be traveling tripod, so light weight and shorter length have to be big parts of purchasing reason. It can go very low with center column switched to horizontal position and legs spread out. And it can go up more than I need (I'm 5' 10") for shooting. Only concern I have is the carbon fiber center column rubbing against plastic clamps when folded. This concerns me when I ship the tripod in my checked in luggage so I wrap legs individually with t-shirts or clothes. But overall, this tripod is all I can ask for, so I won't spend more money on tripods anymore.

Does the job just fine and is light too!

I use the product around town and in travel. It is extremely light and pretty stable too. I have not used it in the extreme elements of 20 below and wind chill 40 below as yet. I am not sure if it can handle that, but will try when the weather turns cold here in Minnesota.

Everything as advertised

Fantastic quality, fast setup, and amazingly stable considering the weight. I shopped around and settled on a few select brands, one of the things which sold me on Manfrotto over the direct ship imports was their long history of quality. I use the tripod mostly for macro and landscape (HDR) so I wanted flexibility and stability. The only complaint I have is the price. But you get what you pay for, and since this is probably the last tripod I'll buy I decided to spend the extra money for a quality piece of equipment, the $50 rebate helped seal the deal.

sturdy and lightweight,cant go wrong....

I was contemplating the pro3,but the pro4 seems to fit my needs better, being that its smaller when packed up,and will fit inside most luggage easily (you may need to remove the head for a carry on ).I do mostly travel photography,landscales/nature etc.I needed lightweight, well constructed legs ,which for the money, the manfrotto does the job well.Im 5'10",and with the ballhead, the 190 series is plenty tall enough for me.If your over 6ft,maybe the 055 series might suit you better.Being able to set up quickly is also another advantage,I like the flip lock legs better than twist lock, and they seem very sturdy so far,no slippage issues. All in all,an all round great set of legs .

I'm really happy with the weight of this product; help out a lot especially if your camera and lens already weighs 2 kg.

A great option for a travel tripod

This tripod is a great option when you need a tripod that is lightweight and folds up small enough to fit inside a bag / backpack or is not very cumbersome attached to the outside of your bag. The ability to rotate the center column 90 degrees for macro, close to the ground, or product shooting is also very handy. My major gripe is that the center column, once moved to the horizontal potion, is a bit hard to reset to normal operation, and the legs are a bit hard to extend / retract, as you might expect with the 4-part leg composition. Overall, however, certainly worth the price. I am pleased with this purchase.

Love to shoot

I love the tripod and it works well. The legs extend slowly but they are firm in their hold of the ground, feels solid. Very Light.

Wonderful Tripod

I chose 4 sections legs instead of 3 sections one because I wanted the most compact one. I was a little worry about stabilization but it came out it is very stable.

Nice.. and expensive

This is my second carbon tripod, and my first manfroto. I bougth it because the vertical/horizontal function. The craft is impecable, and the convertion from vertical to horizontal column is quick and easy. It would be even better if the column could be fixed in other angle than 0 - 90. The tag is high, but the quality have a price..

Great for travel

Great size and weight for travel and backpacking. Need to add hanging weight for stabilization in the wind. Much more comfortable to use in cold temperatures than aluminum tripod. I do not leave it home.

Versatile compact lightweight tripod

This is a compact light weight tripod that is adjusts very easily. I wanted a tripod that I could hike with that was fairly compact and light. This tripod seems to fit the bill. I mated it with the 488RC2 which adds a bit of weight (adds 50%) but the combo is quite nice and fits all of my needs (total weight a little under 4.5# and folds to 24"). The tripod combo is large enough to get the camera at eye level for me (I'm 5' 8"). The center column can be rapidly adjusted to the horizontal position for vertical or very low height settings (those of you with larger fingers may may have difficulty pushing the button for it to adjust but I have no problems; try it out if you have large fingers). It is not a stable as my 055MF4 but it also weighs 33% less chich is quite a substantial amount. Anyway, this is a very nice light weight stable platform when you don't want/aren't able to carry around your heavier tripods.

Great lighweight tripod

This is a great lightweight tripod. I bought it to supplement the use of my Current Bogen 3021BPRO tripod. Because I carry my tripod everywhere, I was looking for something lighter for those longer days in the field. The 190CXPRO4 is ideal. It is light and very compact. Even though it is not as stable as the heavier 3021BPRO, it is perfect for a long hike. I use it in combination with the Acratech Ultimate ballhead. And, the Q90 Quick Center Column System works great and is so much faster and more convenient than the older technology. This is a great tripod.

Lightweight and Stable

I bought this primarily for travel and hiking because it is lightweight, folds small and is affordable. I also use it for family portraits at home, and product and analytical photography at work. I really like the way the center column changes to the horizontal position. It is lightweight and folds small enough to bring along, yet sturdy enough to stabilize a Nikon D300 with a 70-200 lens. All at a great price!

Sturdy, Compact & Light!

After a month of use, I am very happy. I did a TON of research before I bought this tripod and didn't see anything that came close to this quality for this price. I give it 5 stars and I'm kind of a picky b*strd :)

In 2007 the Manfrotto 190X received the TIPA award for Best Accessory on the market, while the 190XPROB won The Editor's Choice award from American Photo. Manfrotto was so proud to receive these awards, but they didn't want to stop there. Manfrotto has taken this already amazing tripod to the next level. Manfrotto presents a New Generation of tripods to the carbon fiber tripod world, extremely light weight with, incredible performance, fast and easy to use combining incredibly light, high quality materials (100% Carbon Fiber Tubes, Magnesium and aluminum die castings) a revolutionary patented center column mechanism (Q90°, Quick Center Column System), and innovative design.

The 190CXPRO3 and the 190CXPRO4 represent three section and four section versions of the PRO tripods. These PRO versions have the patented quick center column system that now uses a tri-faceted 100% full carbon fiber tube, magnesium die castings and magnesium top plate with an integrated leveling bubble.
