ROBERT P : I currently have an Olympus E=PL2, I want to upgrade. I have several Olympus lens. Will these fit any other manufacturer's mirrorless camera of just the Olympus series?DAVID M : yes you should be able to use your lenses ; with other four thirds cameras, but i must say the olympus,e-pl5 is out standing, i love the pictures it s a great camera, and i would put it side by side with most DSLR,S Try it you wont be sorry. good luck with your choice.ARNIE R : Most all 4/3 micro lens are compatible with all other 4/3 cameras regardless of manufacturer.RANDAL D : As long as the camera you choose uses the Micro Four Thirds mount, the lenses should fit. I believe that pretty much limits your choice currently to Olympus or Panasonic, both excellent brands.MATT M : Panasonic and Olympus micro four thirds lenses will work on either Panasonic or Olympus MFT cameras. JOHN M : Your lenses will work on cameras utilizing the Micro Four Thirds system. As of right now the only two manufacturers making cameras for this system are Olympus and Panasonic. JOSEPH V : Olympus lenses that work with the E-PL2 will presumably work with any camera body that uses the Micro Four Thirds lens mount. As far as I know this includes all Panasonic mirrorless cameras as well as Olympus. It might be worth searching online for info on your specific lenses, though.
Nancy C : I need to take close-ups. What lens would fit this camera?PETER R : There is a close up adapter available from Olympus,PETER R : There is a close up adapter available from Olympus,JULIE O : Hi The Olympus 60mm macro lens is a really great lens for close-up and macro shots. -JulieSTEVEN F : Any Olympus or Panasonic micro four thirds lens.ARNIE R : Olympus 60mm Macro. Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f2.8 Macro Lens MSC for PEN and OM-D Cameras This is a fantastic lens. Critical sharp, excellent contrast. Flat across the entire field. 1 to 1 magnification with no extra adapters. Auto-focus. A bit pricey but well worth it. Arnie arnie at arnierosner dot com 714-964-4056ROIK H : Olympus makes a 60mm macro lens for this camera that has received great reviews. If a less expensive close up lens option is what you're looking for, you can also purchase a closeup (macro) adapter lens for this camera. There is one made by Olympus, and there are also aftermarket versions. I personall would go with the 60mm macro lens from Olympus if I did a lot of closeups.
Akihiro S : Is this camera included double zoom kit?LIFE FORCE B : Not sure what you're asking. If it's "DOES it come with two zooms," I guess that depends on what Adorama is offering at any given moment. The 14-42mm kit lens is Olympus' worst. But their line of primes, all of which Adorama carries, are great. If you're looking for a basic set, not too expensive, I would get a body only with the: Olympus 45mm f/1.8 Olympus 40-150mm zoom Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 The 40-150mm is inexpensive and very good.ROIK H : This item includes just a single kit zoom lens, the 14-42mm. It's a very sharp kit lens and I would say the best, or at least among the best, in the way of a kit zoom lens of all the makers. I would also recommend buying the 45-150mm zoom lens, for which Olympus does sometimes offer a discount if bought at the same time as the camera. The longer zoom lens is also a brilliant lens for this camera.DAVID M : i also own 50mm 2.8 from my old minolta x 570 that i will use, besides the 14-42mm i believe this should ,take care most any picture i take.ANDREW R : I'm not sure I understand your question. This kit includes the camera body and a zoom lens (14-42mm), additional lenses would need to be purchased separately.

The jewel of the PEN series.

This is the camera that's always in my bag next to one of my EM-10 bodies. I love the smaller size since it so conventiently fits into a small side pocket, always handy as back up and always handy for special shooting jobs for which I have the camera programmed via my sets.

Good but could be better

There are a lot of things I really like about my E-PL5. The image quality is quite good. I can get usable small photos up to ISO 6400. If you're printing something larger than 4" x 6" you probably don't want to go past ISO 1600 unless you absolutely have to. I love the compact size. The lack of a viewfinder is a problem, but I got the VF-4 viewfinder, and that solves it. The only problem there is that you have to use the hotshoe, and then you can't put a flash or any other hotshoe accessory on. If you're buying a camera this serious, you really need a viewfinder...so the OM-D E-M10 might be a better value. The E-M10 is a lot cheaper than buying a Pen camera and a viewfinder new. I got my camera and viewfinder used from Craigslist at prices even below the outlet prices, so be sure to check for that before buying from Olympus if you want the lowest possible price. The biggest con, though, is the lack of phase-detect autofocus. If you take photos of moving things like sports, kids, pets, etc., this camera will struggle to track them accurately. The only current Olympus model with PDAF is the OM-D E-M1, which is ridiculous. Hey Olympus: if you want to get new users adopting your system, you need entry-level cameras that don't let them down when they try to take action shots of their kids playing sports! Put PDAF in every model, especially since entry-level DSLRs and the Sony a6000 can do this for reasonable sums of cash.

Thumbs up

I've had this (reconditioned) camera for over a year now and I've used it regularly since I bought it. The first thing to comment on is the fact that it is reconditioned. I haven't had any problems--it came to me looking brand new and working perfectly. A year on, it no longer looks new but it still works perfectly. The top dial (to change between shooting modes) did fall off but it looks like that is a common problem that is solved easily with super glue. As for the camera itself, it's not the top of the line Olympus m43 camera. It would benefit from an extra dial to adjust aperture/shutter speed and a viewfinder, but that's why you would pay more for one of the other options. It works very well, takes great pictures, and is smaller than its cousins. I keep it in my purse so I can take it almost everywhere with me.

Great small camera, great pictures

Gift for wife. She wants uncomplicated. Complex camera that can be easy to operate. She is delighted because of image stabilization and prospect of using some of my specialty lenses as she explores camera capability. The small size was really important to her as well. My DSLRs are too big to carry all day for her 100 lbs.

Great walk around camera

I purched this as a second camera, I recently bought a OMD EM-1 and was very happy with that purchase. I love this little camera, I find myself leaving the EM-1 in my bag and using this one a lot of the time.. Great IQ and relatively simple to use (after reading the manual).. I found that I needed an electronic viewfinder to use it in bright sunlight.. I would purchase this camera again, it is fun to use... BTW, I sold all my canon full frame cameras and L lenses and went to the Micro 4/3 format, so far no regrets...

Former Nikon user switches to PEN E-PL5

OLYMPUS PEN E-PL5 – As a former Nikon user (30+ years) for me to switch to another camera manufacture and a completely different sensor was not an easy thing to do. But, after four months of using this camera I am enjoying it more and more every time I use it. There are several thing that I feel that a new user or potential buyer need to know. First turn on the "Super Control Panel" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_DI8uT6daA) I have found this to be a great tool and much easier to find the common thing that I like to have control of. Second is to make the "Super Fine Compression" one of your default choices. Third the "Instruction Manual" from Olympus is less than desirable, many things seem to be missing or scarcely mentioned, so search the web. Overall, I am very pleased with this camera, its image quality, build quality and handling. I am now a satisfied user of the Olympus PEN E-PL5.

Excellent Image quality

I decided to try my first olympus micro 4/3rds camera. I own a couple of Panasonic ones but I couldn't resist trying out the same sensor as the one the OMD EM5 has. I am very happy with the image quality. I think the Olympus cameras have better metering and white balance, in addition to the newer sensor, you are getting a great image.

Don't look any further--best camera ever

I have owned many cameras--several DSLRS, rangefinder pro cameras, and super zooms. All of them took good pictures, but had compromises in size, weight, and ability to use quickly and with a variety of effects and shooting options. This Olympus, with the Zuiko 12-42 and 40-200 zoom lenses does it ALL, and is far more portable than the NIkons that I sold. They used to sit in a case, as I would end up taking a smaller camera. Optical quality, ease of use, and overall flexibility and features make this camera UNBEATABLE at the price point. Only the top of the line Olympus can do more, and it is larger and heavier. Adorama was wonderful to deal with, and I LOVE the four thirds system--run out and buy it, as Olympus was the originator of this format, and NOBODY does it better.

Great value for superb camera.

Nice solid feeling, great features, and the pictures are really super in low light. My first M43 and been a DSLR user. I can get over the small size and how light weight it is.

Great All Around 4/3 Camera

When you do not want lug your DSLr around Disneyland, this is definitely the camera to get. Easy to carry, plenty of filters, good under low light without flash (just be very still), clear colorful photos. Although it does have a slight reddish tint to it, can be compensated with color balance. Can shoot in raw or Jpeg or both at the same time in case you need more data. Just a great little all around camera. Oh and having Flashair is great! Kind of reminds me of my Casio 3000 when digital cameras first appeared on the scene.

Good Camera

Bougth this camera to accomodate my Fuji X-E1. Wanted something light and compact with good image quality when I dont like to carry the bigger bag. This camera is perfect for that. Light and small enough to fit in a big coat pocket, along with a very good image quality AF and IS. Most people could also use it as their only camera for just about anything. I also have the Olympus VF-2 EVF wich makes it easy for me to manual focus using non legacy lenses ( i´m over 50 and my eyesight is no longer so good with close up objects ( LCD Display ) . The AF for still objects is about as good as it gets using a mirrorless camera. Focuses spot on very quick in most cases. Focus tracking is not as good and I would reccomend some SLR camera if that is very important to you. Love this camera and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a light easy to carry camerea with a good image quality.

Nice improvements over the previous m43s

The e-pl5 is a solid camera, has the ability to capture excellent images. Compared directly with a friends omd, using the same lens and settings, the results were very close, you really have to blow up the image, and you'll notice slightly better jpg processing in the omd. For everyday shooting the lack of view finder rarely impedes, I can imagine where it could be a problem if you're mainly shooting fast action sports. I primarily pair the e-pl5 with the panny leica 25mm f1.4 lens, and it performs just as good as my t4i /w the canon 50 f1.4, and I prefer it over my canon 28 f1.8 Iso performance is good, you can shoot useable photos at iso 3200, without being overly noisy. dont expect much from the flash, it's there only for emergencies. My only wish is if the body added another dial, to make it easier to control aperature and shutter speed, but it useable with only one dial. If the camera was stolen, I'd buy another, it's that good. pair it with the panasonic 14 f2 pancake, and you have an rig that'll fit in your pocket

This one is a Winner!

I moved up from an Olympus PL2 to this PL5. The added technology of larger sensor, tilt LCD screen, touch focus/shutter, are vast improvements to increate your photographic creativity. I had to give up the pop up flash on the PL2, but a little external fill flash unit IS included in the kit. The lens is sharp, as are all Oly lenses. Also the camera is much smaller now, very much like a sony Nex5 (maybe even smaller). It's a bit complicated to use if one is accustomed to a simple SLR, but the flexibility is astounding. Also the built in ART modes are fun to use. If you're reading this review, GET THIS CAMERA. Great deal at Adorama too.

The Olympus E-PL5 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5 II Lens (Black) is the latest edition to the Olympus PEN E-PL series of mirrorless interchangeable lens digital cameras. Included with this camera is the M. Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5 II lens.

A 16MP Live MOS sensor provides this camera with DSLR-like image quality and the TruePic VI image processor brings with it fast response time and accurate colors and contrasts. Its mirrorless design allows for a compact body and a large line of compatible interchangeable lenses offers the flexibility to capture any type of shot you can imagine.

With an ISO range up to 25600 and In-body Image Stabilization, low-light photography is delivered with saturated colors and little noise. Sequential shooting of 8 frames per second and the Olympus F.A.S.T. Auto Focus system equal high speed performance and with the assistance of Face and Eye Detection, portraits and group shots are focused and exposed automatically to produce ideal shots every time.

Auto focus and shutter release can be controlled by touching the LCD screen. Set the focus on your subject by touching that spot on the LCD and the camera will hold that focus until you touch the LCD again to release the shutter. The LCD itself is a 3.0" Flip Portrait display that can be titled up or down for creative composition or to control glare and reflection when shooting in bright sunlight.

The E-PL5 is capable of shooting Full 1080i HD video and can playback that HD video on an HDTV with a simple connection to its HDMI output. It also has a multi-purpose accessory port for connecting accessories including the FL-LM1 flash unit which included with this camera.

Twelve in-camera art filters can add creative flourish to your images. Soft Focus, Grainy Film and Pin Hole, for example, are enhanced by filter variations, art effects and bracketing. This creative palette can be used in all shooting modes including while filming HD movies. iAuto is also a part of the package and it's there for you when you want the camera to recognize what it is seeing and automatically take the best photo possible. Also featured is Olympus' Dust Reduction System which keeps the camera's sensor clean by vibrating a Supersonic Wave Filter every time the camera is turned on.

Along with compact form, interchangeable lenses are an important advantage to mirrorless photography and Olympus provides a wide array of lenses to fit the E-PL5 including the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 which is bundled with this camera. With a retractable mechanism design, this 3X zoom lens is compact with an overall length of just 1.71" (43.5mm). This lens is designed specifically for Micro Four Thirds mounts and with multi-coating on all lens surfaces it offers even light transmission and reduced aberrations. This is a versatile lens, covering wide-angle to moderate telephoto focal lengths.

Olympus E-PL5 Features

  • 16MP Live MOS Sensor: The 16MP Live MOS sensor is optimized to maximize the performance of all M.Zuiko digital lenses in any shooting condition. Improvements to the sensitivity and read-out speed of the existing sensor makes ISO 25600 shooting and Full HD movie recording possible
  • Improved Color Reproduction: The TruePic VI Image Processor, designed specifically for the Olympus PEN series, features Real Color Technology for improved color reproduction and color gradation. The faster processor also allows for a shorter recovery time between shots
  • Fast, Accurate Auto Focus: The F.A.S.T. (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF System is able to focus at high speed and offers 35 separate focus points that are spread over the sensor, which makes it possible for accurate focusing on small subjects wherever they appear in the frame
  • 3.0" Flip Portrait LCD: This bright, high-resolution screen tilts up and down (from 80 degrees up to 45 degrees) to capture shots from a variety of angles
  • Immediate Response Touch Autofocus and Shutter: Control focus and shutter release with just a touch on the LCD screen. Improved sensitivity reacts immediately to touch so shutter release is instantaneous
  • In-Body Image Stabilization: Olympus' in-body image stabilization technology makes it possible to use any Micro Four Thirds lenses (or Four Thirds lens), from wide-angle to telephoto, for perfectly clear, crisp photos no matter what the shooting situation, even in low light
  • Full 1080i HD Video: Shoot up to 29 minutes of Full 1080i HD video at 60fps with stereo sound in either AVCHD or AVI formats. A Direct HD Movie Button switches you from still to movie mode with just one touch
  • 8 FPS Sequential Shooting: With the E-PL5 you can take up to eight photos a second, allowing you to easily capture that one perfect shot amidst a flurry of activity
  • Increased ISO Sensitivity: Capture low light photos with an increased ISO sensitivity to 25600
  • Fast Response: The E-PL5 offers fast shutter response time ranging from 60 - 1/40000 seconds. The TruePic VI Image processor allows for reduced shot-to-shot time by shortening the black-out time between shots
  • Face Detection with Eye Detect: The face detection AF employs an Eye Detect AF that adjusts focus automatically on the subject's eyes during portrait shooting and can even be adjusted to focus on the right, left or near-side eye
  • In-Camera Advanced Arts Filters: Twelve In-camera Art Filters (including Pop Art, Soft Focus, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama) are enhanced by filter variations, art effects and bracketing. Photographers can use Art Filters in all shooting modes as well as when filming HD movies
  • 3D Still Shooting: Add a different dimension to your photographs in any mode from macro to landscape with Olympus' 3D technology. By simply selecting the 3D Photo Mode, releasing the shutter and slowly panning, the camera will automatically take a second image from a slightly different perspective
  • iAuto and 23 Scene Select: iAuto automatically identifies the scene you're shooting - portrait, landscape, night portrait, macro, or sport - and adjusts the settings to optimize results. The E-PL5 is also equipped with 23 Scene-Select modes for effortless picture taking
  • In-Camera Slideshow with Sound: In-camera slide-shows are easy to create. The E-PL5's enhanced playback functions allow you to employ effective fade-in/fade-out techniques, control the movie/still mix and speed, add captivating musical soundtracks and much more
  • Memory Cards and Wireless Transfer: No need for cables or even a computer. Upload or email images directly from your camera with an optional PP-1 PENPAL or Eye-Fi card. The E-PL5 is also capable of recording stills and video to SD, SDHC, SDXC and UHS-I media cards
  • Updated Screen Design and Live Guide: The Live Guide system allows you to preview effects as you adjust them - before the image is even captured. Simply select Live Guide and turn the wheel on the back of the camera to slide through numerous photographic effects
  • AF Illuminator: The addition of this super luminosity LED beam allows the camera to focus faster in low light, up to almost 10ft
  • Attachable Flash Included: This camera provides the flexibility to attach a flash to your camera via the accessory port, or leave it at home for greater portability. The FL-LM1 flash is included
  • Expandable System: A range of interchangeable lenses, accessories and strobes are compatible with the E-PL5 to support all different types of photography needs
  • Accessory Port: A port for connecting accessories including flashes, PENPAL, MAL-1 Macro Light, EMA-1 Microphone adapter and the VF-2 viewfinder is part of this camera's design
  • Easy Photo and Video Playback On Your HDTV: Using the HDMI output, just connect the E-PL5 to your HDTV with an HDMI cable (not included) and navigate the camera's menus on the HDTV. This is perfect for sharing your pictures and movies with an audience
  • Multiple Exposure Shooting: The Multiple Exposure function enables you to be creative right in the camera. Multiple images can be captured and combined to create one unique image
  • Additional Aspect Ratios: The E-PL5 lets you select one of five aspect ratios (4:3 / 3:2 / 16:9 / 6:6 / 3:4) that frame your images to whatever proportions you'd like, for everything from conventional enlargements to viewing on widescreen monitors
  • Proven Dust Reduction System: Olympus' Dust Reduction System assures spot-free images, even after changing lenses. Every time you turn on the camera, the Supersonic Wave Filter silently vibrates, removing dust so that it doesn't interfere with the picture imaging at any time
