The GH2 hacked is better in resolution than many other DSLR (including 7d, 5DII etc)...

I wanted to replace my old Canon G6 with a multi-lens camera, that could also shoot video. Being comfortable with Canon cameras, the T3i and 60D were my initial choices. After seeing the results of a friend's Panasonic GH1, I included the GH2 in my research. Although the Canon 60D is better suited to still images, the GH2 is a better all-round camera for my still and video needs. The GH2 certainly shoots excellent still images, but its video capabilities are what really sold me. The "auto" features works well, but the manual controls are key to getting the most from this camera. For those interested in the GH2, I highly recommend the "Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Unofficial Quintessential Guide" by Matsumoto & Roullard. It goes into detail much better than the GH2's owner's manual.

Excellent camera with a very simple to use menu system. Very well organized buttons and all setting are clearly visible all time. Has also MIC output levels visible on LCD.

This is a great camera... I'm still teaching myself how to take full advantage of its features, but so far, I'm really impressed.

I needed a camera that could shoot good quality video, and be a substantial upgrade to my old Canon G6. After much research, the GH2 remained as best choice for my needs. There are other cameras that shoot good video, but none that hit all the marks that the GH2 does. For still images, cameras like the Canon T3i have a slight advantage, and even a bit less expensive. However, the difference is slight, and the GH2 video quality, smaller format and EVF won me over. Everyone has different needs, so its best to define what YOURS are, and take all reviews, including this one, with a grain of salt.

I use this camera for recording personal histories and other interviews. The picture quality is great. However, I found it very difficult to get started because the accompanying manual is, in my opinion, extremely difficult to understand. I am not yet up to speed after six months and am eagerly anticipating the new book on the GH2 which will be published in January to answer my many questions. However I am very pleased I bought this camera.

I am a professional videographer and sometimes I have to shoot stills as well. But I do shoot stills as a hobby. I stressed over getting this camera for weeks, finally pulled the trigger. So far, I am very satisfied. The 14-140mm lens I bought with it is, indeed, slow but the auto focus is awesome both in photo and video mode. The glass is very clean, upon cursory inspection of photos and video I can find no immediately visible issues as it compares to other higher priced DSLR's and lenses. The menu is incredibly intuitive, which is a good thing since the manual is thick. The electronic viewfinder takes getting use to but I think I'm going to adjust just fine. And, the touch screen LCD makes mode changes really fast. The best thing about this camera for me is the quality of the moire free video with a very fast auto focus lens and a rotating LCD. That combination alone puts this camera in a class by itself, ergo a hybrid. The least favorite thing for me....micro 4/3rd's. Why? Cuz, it's also in a class by itself, meaning you have to buy an adapter if you want to use your existing APS-C or full frame DSLR lens. Also, the smaller size takes a bit of getting use to as to how to handle the camera without hitting buttons. Bottom line, great video, very good stills and the perfect travel combo camera because of its smaller size and ability to shoot both high-end video and stills.

So far I love my camera. Although I must warn you its almost as ifthe camera was made specifically for video. I shoot music videos and short films and I must say the camera is excellent, a little pricey though. There is a lot les noise and the rolling shutter is better then most dslrs. This camera has great manual controls to really adhere to my creativity. I definitely recommend this camera to any professional videographer.

Great camera. Main criticism is the slow learning curve to master the benefits of this camera.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Digital Camera has a large 17.3 x 13.0mm Live MOS sensor that records 16.05MP of high resolution goodness, a 10x zoom lens (28-280mm equivalent in 35mm), 1920 x 1080 60i HD Video with Dolby stereo sound, a multi-function Touch Screen for control of both stills and video and extremely fast auto focus in a camera 1/3 smaller (4.88 x 3.53 x 2.98"/12.4 x 8.96 x 7.58 cm) and lighter (13.82 oz/392 g) than most DSLRs.
It has MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) to eliminate blurry photos from low shutter speeds/shaky hands, a 3" free-angle LCD with 460,000 dots, high sensitivity up to ISO 12800 and an advanced dust reduction system to protect image quality. RAW capability in still images gives you ultimate control for the best pictures possible.
There's a lot more, of course. Like 3D shooting capability with the Lumix G 12.4mm/F12 interchangeable lens, a built-in flash with 1st and 2nd curtain sync and iA (Intelligent Auto) mode that makes all settings automatically to give you optimal results without worrying about shutter speeds or exposure. Both stills and video can be customized with Scene and Color modes for a vast range of creative options.
A Cinema mode allows you to shoot 1080/24p video with 24Mbps, a Variable Movie mode lets you choose the frame rate, from 80% to 300%, there are a variety of color modes (including 3 different black and white settings) and, you can even shoot a high resolution 14MP photo at the touch of the shutter button, while recording video! A wide range of optional accessories such as an external stereo microphone, a zoom lever for smoother zooms in video recording, external flash, HDMI cable, etc. might make the DMC-GH2 just right for you.
