Sony A65

I bought mine from Australia and I was amazed by the pictures, performs well in low light, very good for travelling can fit in a medium size bag. Very good camera for beginners.

Not the ultimate experience.

This camera is not as sharp as some, not as quick as others, but it does a lot, and even some things none of the others do. You can (with a little insight) get this camera to do what it took much more money to do elsewhere. The ISO is not what you'd hope for, nor is the contrast quite as powerful as some, but if you fight for it, it will give it to you. You always seem to have to push it beyond what most would suggest, or even find out. It seems always on (or beyond) the edge of it's capability when it shines, but it does shine. The viewfinder (Translucent mirror) is like a metaphor for the whole camera, you've got to know it well enough to find the truth in what it's telling you, because all the important stuff requires a little finagling. If you're broke, and need to produce, get one and push it to it's limits, it should just barely keep up to the big shots. It lost a star for it's low light performance, sorry Sony. Kudos for the front curtain shutter setting. Get a fast lens for it.

Bang for buck

This truly is a fantastic camera, the features and performance for the price is a must buy. The speed of the camera is perfect and the image processing engine is very advanced and blows competitors at this price point out of the water. This camera has also made my mind up to buy an additional A99 and use my A65 as a second camera.

Best yet!

I have had this camera now for 4 months and am very pleased with it. There are an excellent range of settings some of which I still have to explore. The main feature on this camera is the brilliant processor - seems to be able to cope with any situation. A great buy!

Good choice

Just a great camera, great results and very user friendly. I love this camera and has become my go to camera for all occasions. I have a Tamron SP Di Macro 1:1 lens for macro photography. If you don't care about brands, this camera is a great choice.

Best DSLR Sony within good price range

I bought this camera because only a Sony would fit my lenses and other attachments from my film SLR Minolta Maxxum V, and I didn't want to be out the expense of buying new lenses. My Tamron 28-200mm and Quantaray 2X AF teleconverter fit it just fine and my Quantaray 72mm ultraviolent filter fit the Sony 18-55 lens that comes with the camera just fine also. I chose this particular model because it was within my price range; a better quality camera than the A58 and not as expensive as the A77. For me, having to buy a digital SLR was a necessary evil because it was getting too difficult to find a photo processor that developed good quality photos from my SLR Minolta Maxxum V. Initially, I figured nothing could hold a candlestick to my Maxxum V, but I am impressed with the Sony A65. It has all the basic features, viewfinder for precise framing, padded eye piece, ISO control, aperture control and many, many more. Holds comfortably in my small hands and has a comfortable weight. This is my second digital camera. My first was a Fujifilm Finepix F500EXR, which is an excellent camera for a point 'n shoot. I merely bought it a couple of years ago as a tool to learn how to use a digital. After having learned on it, I knew I was then ready for a new DSLR. I cannot recommend one DSLR brand over another, other than to say if you are a Minolta user and looking for a compatible DSLR camera, you'll need to go with the Sony. Sony took over Minolta and kept the a-mount lens. I haven't been able to use my new Sony a65 much yet to give you my opinion on the all of its features. I'll add more to this comment in the near future and give you an update then.

New Sony SLT-A65.

Part exchanged for a Sony A350 which was a really good camera, but decided an upgrade was due. Good decision on my part the results from the new camera are excellent and the host of features built in are great for me.

Excellent product

Bought A65 to replace another Sony (R1) which was aging. I bought 18-250 Sony lenses also as did not want to keep changing lenses. I am very pleased with the camera. Picture quality, Panoramic and 3D options and GPS are all excellent. The file size for each picture is very large but that reflects the quality. Since I bought this in December I have taken over 1000 photos on all kinds of outdoor conditions and indoors and I am not disappointed with a single image yet. I have not used or intend to use the video option. It's a quality product and I really enjoy using.

Wonderful!!

Bought this camera a few months ago to replace my A330. i am astounded by the extra features, quality of build and feel, quality of shots - I am most certainly not disappointed. In particular I am impressed with the high speed continuous shooting and tracking focus - it makes it far easier to get some great action shots of my dog. I'm still yet to explore the many other functions of the camera but I'm sure I will not be disappointed. Great camera Sony (especially for the intermediate user!)

Good intermediate upgrade camera

Bought this camera body only when my Sony A55 packed up. Very pleased with the results so far. I like to have GPS to enable me to recall exactly where I was on my travels hope Sony continue to keep this feature in future cameras. I use this for portraits with a Minolta 50 mm 1.7 lens a Sigma 18-50 2.8 lens and a Tameron 18-270 mm lens and achieve good results

Produces lovely photo's with great features.

Nice and easy to use once familiar with its layout and controls, takes excellent photo's at dusk and in the dark without using flash, when used at the right settings and with the appropriate lens.

Best DSLR For the $ for video

I needed a DSLR under $1K that could take great pictures and great video. I thought Canon was the way to go until I tried to shoot video with it. The Canon's multi-point focusing goes out the window when the mirror is up for video mode. The canons video focusing is too slow. The Sony retains quick multi point focusing (the fastest in the industry) even in video mode. Great pics and video, one camera.

Excellent first slt

I was pleasantly surprised with this camera. I have yet to unleash its true potential due to my lack of sony lenses but im sure it will be up to the task. Only criticism is the kind of dark view finder(typical of slt's) and to my surprise, burnt pixels on the main lcd.

SONY SLT A65

Thus far am very pleased with the A65. Started to buy the Nikon 7100 or the Sony A77 and at my age 73, just didn't want to relearn what I already know of Sony's User Interface since I have owner Sony products for over 10 years and have taken over 10k images with my Sony.

So far Loving it!

I was could not make up my mine between 3 camera...the canon T4i, Nikon 3200 & the Sony A65...after paling around with all 3 cameras and comparing all 3...the Sony is by far the better camera for what I am looking to use it for. I love taking photos of my dogs, and with them always moving quick..I just found that the Sony worked the best.

Great workhorse

I bought the A65 in February of this year. I upgraded from my A200. I shoot everything from wildlife to indoor sports under really bad lighting. At this point I don't know how many times my camers has rolled over but it has been at least 4 or 5 times. I dont use a lot of the auto or presets but live in manual modes. I love being able to change the perspective for moto cross, shoot a panorama without spending large amounts of time post processing. 10fps with the right card and an 8sec ride is covered. Eventhough the viewfinder is electronic I shoot with both eyes open so the lag in the digital display doesnt bother me. The manufacture says battery life is just under 500 frames. I can shoot about 2500 frames on a battery or an equivelent of about 3.5 hours with gps on and back display turned off. Drawbacks are the sd cards for me and that the high iso noise reduction is disabled in RAW. There are several other features that you loose in RAW and in full manual, however I have found work arounds for what I need. For the price you really can't complain it is comparable to a few camera bodies that retail for almost twice the price.

SONY ALPHA DSLR SLT A65 CAMERA

A question was asked can the A65 be tethered to a laptop? Yes it can be tethered to a laptop as long as the laptop has HDMI port. I use the HDMI tether when I am in studio and it works perfectly with minimal setup. This camera can be tethered to any device that has HDMI capabilities i.e. flat screen TV. Hope this help ...
