Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is this a used lens?KENNETH N : Yes very helpfulANDREW R : I'm not sure I understand your question. The item in this product listing is new (not used or refurbished). Items we sell are NEW unless otherwise indicated.MARWEN H : of course not
HENRY S : A shoot with a Nikon D 7100, using the Sigma 70 to 200 mm Plus 2X teleconverter what would my range of viewing range be?ROBERT B : A little math should give us the answer. First of all, you are using the Nikon 7100 which has an APS-C sensor with a 1.5 crop factor, so taking the 70-200 x 1.5 turns this lens into a 105-300 equivalent. Then if you add the 2.0 Teleconverter you end up with about a 210-600mm lens. You will add about 2 stops to the aperture of the lens but using that teleconverter.
Thomas M : Can anybody confirm that this lens will work with Nikon D500?RYAN S : YesMICHAEL G : Yes, I used it for d500 for a while before I got my full frame body.CHRIS C : Yes it will.

Must have for sports photographers

This is an amazing battery grip, for sports photographers it?ll help you out a ton, improves your vertical shooting and allows you to shoot so much longer with the double battery power.

It's good. I use it on a Sigma SD Quattro H and an ?7RIV.

I have one of these from eBay (like new). I got it for use on a Sigma SD Quattro H. (Because it's stabilized and fairly bright and because you have to use Sigma SA lenses on Sigma cameras, mostly.) I also use it on an ?7RIV with Sigma's MC-11 adaptor and it works fine. The MC-11 does not light up its green LED to indicate it is a compatable lens but it does work. It focuses fast in rotten light (on the ?7RIV) and seems to coordinate its stabilizers with the IBIS in the ?7RIV, and the resolution of the projected image is more than adiquate for the tight pixel pitch of the ?7RIV's sensor. The EXIF information is all there too. So, I like it, and, it's a brick. A monopod makes it a lot more pleasant for walkabouts. ( A standard brick weighs 4.5 pounds. The Sigma SD Quattro H weighs 1.4 pounds. This lens weighs 3.3 pounds !! They must use lead glass. 3.2 + 1.4 = 4.6 So close enough.)

Great lens with great value

Lens feels solid and makes great images. I got mine during a Sigma promo with the free 2x tele-converter. This makes a great combination. I like the fact that the lens mount ring can be removed without taking the lens off the camera. In some ways, it makes it function as a quick release off a tripod or monopod. This lens does have some vignetting, as do many telephot zoom lenses. It is only apparent at 200mm, and F2.8 or F4, and is easily removed in post. Included case is nice for storage, and seems well built.

Super camera lens

This is my second Sigma lens of this type. Both are fabulous lenses and produce fabulous photos. A great lens and an even greater value with the extras that came with my package.

Great lens but the OS is not as good a Canon's IS

The OS could use some improving. It's slow to engage and once it's working, it won't stabilize the lens as well as Canon's IS on cheaper lenses (for example the 18-200 IS). That older cheaper lens' stabilization worked visibly better than Sigma's. Other than that, the lens is excellent, and super sharp.

Very satisfied.

I do a lot of wildlife photography. This lens is a great compliment to my others. It seems a little heavy, at first. Very happy, overall

Superb Optics

This lens is as sharp as the Nikon 70-200 f2/8 and priced much better. The stabilizing system works more accurately than my Nikon 200-500 f5/6. The f2/8 holds for the complete zoom range and the lens does not extend when changing the zoom range. I highly recommend the purchase of this lens for anyone who loves to photograph wildlife, nature, and portraiture.

Great lens for the price

This lens is my new favorite. It is fast, turns out good quality shots, and seems very well built. For the price, it turns out to be a good value too. The additional trinkets this package comes with are nice, particularly getting a filter set. It comes with a nice padded case. Overall very happy, only slightly concerned about the weight for using over long periods. However, for this class of lens you kinda have to expect that its got some substance to ensure f/2.8 through the whole length of the lens.

Fantastic lens, can't say how much I love it. Excellent focus, excellent build, OS is great, just a fantastic lens. So far I have not been disappointed at all with the build quality, mechanics, etc., the lens performs better than I had expected.

Go to Lens!

This is pretty much my go to lens for shooting people and sporting events. Great control and fast focusing. I have jumped on the SIgma band wagon and find their products are at a great price vs value point for the working professional.

Fast and Responsive

I was looking for a fast lens (2.8) for low light and sports (hockey) situations. I has been good so far. Still can't wait to try it out this fall at Penn State hockey games.

Very satisfied

I've only had the lens about a month but I am very satisfied. I've used it outdoors for sports, and indoors for a graduation ceremony in a dimly lit auditorium. In each instance it has met my expectation for speed and sharpness.

Nikon D3200

I am still learning how to use this lens on my Nikon D3200. I have had it a little over a week. I have captured a few shoots I really love. I do capture more blurry photos than I want probably do to my lack of experience. I know I am going to love this lens with practice.

Great lens for less money.

Got this lens because I couldn't afford the canon version. I have a crop body but still takes great photos. If the canon is better than this, it couldn't be by much because this lens is pretty darn sharp. Would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a gray lens for less money. Looking forward to next year when a get my 5d mark IV to take advantage of the full frame capability. Very quiet focus, not as loud as the othe sigma I have the 150-500mm. It's pretty loud. I will probably buy more from sigma in the future.

Truly a remarkable lens

This is a MUST have for the photographer wanting to take it up a notch. The 2.8 aperture allows for some truly remarkable shots, even in low light. I am able to get great night shots and stunning portraits.

Yep! For me, this was a very good choice.

First off, it ain't the beloved Canon L class 70-200 2.8 USM IS lens. Only because it's not water resistant. So if you don't have it in it's own dry suite, don't drop it in the Idaho River. And keep it covered in a deluge, hurricane or dust bowl. With that out of the way, To me this lens seems to focus just as fast as the Canon. Maybe even a little faster. (In my opinion). It has a switchable horizontal and vertical optical stabilizer that detects vertical movement that keeps things in sharp focus. Even with the 2x tele-converter that comes with this special sale, it holds rock solid and snaps right into focus and follows great. The only time I heard it make any kind of noise was when I focused on an object about 250 feet away at full 200mm focal length. Zoomed all the way in, I pulled all the way back out as quick as I could to 70mm and onto object only about 3 and a half feet away at the same time. By the time I locked an object in frame up, the lens was in focus. I could hear the lens elements (more like felt them) adjust and heard them settle slightly. There are 22 of them inside the nicely designed, rock solid body. All of them apochromatic glass. Flourine coated. This lens is very quiet. With no focus ring or zoom barrel noise. Very smooth movements from both... In AF and M. The Lens hood is also very cool! It's two pieces. There is an inner hood designed for use with APS-C sensor cameras that when combined with the outer hood, narrows the field of stray light which might produce lens flare or fogging. When you take them apart, the outer hood will fit on the inner hood backward with the inner hood still attached to the lens. And the lens cap will fit on the inner hood just like it does on the lens itself. To me this is a brilliant feature to the over all design of the lens. It offers just that much more protection to the lens elements. and it is very convenient. The Sigma 70-200mm 1:2.8 APO DG HSM Auto focus Zoom Lens is a Beast . It is beautifully crafted, well thought out and heavily constructed for its class and price range. It has a removable 1/4 x 20 rubberized tripod socket collar for mounting on a tripod or mono pod for switching between horizontal or vertical shooting that just adds to it's prestige. Sigma touts that with its optical stabilization system you can capture tack sharp images 4 steps slower than without it on. And its true. When I first mounted the lens to my camera I was in video mode at 24p and when I switched to camera mode I was shooting at ISO 100 f2.8 and 1/45th of a second. Late afternoon with the sun past my tree line in open shade. All shots are tack sharp and properly exposed.even with the 2x tele-converter on the lens. When my lens arrived, I was at first a little dismayed when I opened the shipping box. Adorama didn't put a whole lot of bubble wrap or protection in with the lenses I had bought to keep them from jostling around. Just three lens boxes and one strip of bubble wrap. But, to my delight, when I opened the first lens box (the 70-200) I found a beautifully made, well padded zipper topped lens case/pouch specially made for the 70-200 lens with it's own carrying strap. Fantastic! The best part of this whole deal is that I bought two high quality lenses (Also got the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 EX DC OS) and got one 2x tele converter and still payed less than I would have had I bought another Canon 2.8 L class. If you want to check out the true performance of a lens...Try shooting chicken portraits!

Giant Slayer in the 70-200mm Realm!

By ShutterNut

Purchasing this lens was not an easy decision, but I am truly thankful I did! I currently own several Sigma lenses and have always been satisfied with their quality and especially their price.....but this lens is not as light on the wallet. As a dedicated Canon user, I struggle with investing in this lens versus the "brand" Image Stabilized lens currently offered in f/2.8 (with a substantial increase in price). If you are reading this review, you might be struggling with the same decision....

Love!

By RACHEL C.

I mainly shoot children and families (Nikon D700). Lens is sharp, reliable, focuses quickly. Bokeh is amazing! I don't know what I was waiting for with this purchase! Somewhat heavy, but obviously to be expected. Biceps should be toned by the end of summer!
