Sigma's New APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM is the second generation of this large aperture telephoto zoom lens now incorporating Sigma's Optical Stablization function, OS, Sigma's own anti-shake system.

Two FLD glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass have also been added along with three SLD glass elements, all which provide excellent correction of color aberration. In spite of the additions of all of these features, Sigma has managed to make the lens more compact than its predecessor, measuring only 7.8" in length.

For any serious photographer where the 70-200mm focal range is often the most important second lens to own after the initialstandards lens or mid range zooms. The fast aperture is extremely useful and important in low light environments or when shooting fast moving situations where a higher shutter speed demands maximum lights thru the lens.

HSM ensures quiet and high speed AF as well as full-time manual focus capability. Super Multi-Layer lens coating reduces flare ghosting and assures high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. It has a minimum focusing distance of 55.1 inches throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8 The rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images.

This lens is equipped with a petal-type hood. Its exceptional versatility as an all-around lens is perfect for journalists and wedding photographers. This latest version of the Sigma 70-200mm is well regarded for its outstanding image quality, light weight and ease of operation.

Please Note:
The Optical Stabilizer (OS) function will not work with film SLR cameras except Nikon F6

Nikon mounts do not have an aperture ring. Some functions may not work depending on the camera model.

Terrific option

By

from San Francisco  -  Pro Photographer

OK, I'll pop for 5 stars. My copy is crisp as I could ask, focuses very fast and I do like the quick-mount for tripods. No problems at all, and though I've not run extensive edge-to-edge tests (I will), I'm certainly pleased with the quality of the image. Construction seems robust, and the bokeh looks as good as the Canon. Love that I bought it for almost half the cost of the Canon.

too heavy

By

from South Jersey  -  Photo Enthusiast

Bought both a Sigma 17-50 and this lens. The image quality is good on both. But I carry these lenses when hiking. The 70-200 adds excessive weight to my pack and is just too heavy to hold steady by hand. I've good legs but only average arm strength. Buying this lens was a mistake. The image stabilization is not sufficient to overcome the strain of holding this long, heavy lens steady. Maybe best to use as a barbell (then it might become acceptable as a lens?). If you shoot using a tripod regularly, and need the f2.8, I think you'd be happy with the quality.

Nice lens for the price

By

from Newark, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

It is a relatively new purchase for me but I am impressed with the overall quality and performance of this lens. I have not used the equivalent Nikon lens so can't compare the two. However, I was very clear about how much I was going to spend. If this is your budget, go for it.

Great bang for your buck

By

from Orlando, FL  -  Photo Enthusiast

I've used this lens for sports, wedding, concerts and other special events and I have been nothing but pleased so far. I've previously rented the Canon equivalent 70-200 several times but have found that the Sigma lens meets and exceeds my expectations.

nice , but not worth the price

By

from IOWA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I purchased this lens after a recomentdation. After using it for a day to get familiar with it, I found that it was just too slow for an f2.8 for the money. The focus seemed to be just a little bit off when wide open at 200mm. The lense is heavy, but this was not a factor and shouldn't be a reason to stay away from a telephoto lens, they are all going to have some wieght to them. It was sharp though for most of the photos. I returned it and went with the Tamron (non-IS) model after noticing most of th IS models have qulaity issues. I took some great portraits with it, but it fell short on people in motion.

Good for starters....

By

from Midwest  -  Semi-pro Photographer

If you are new or semi-new photographer looking for a f2 zoom lens but cant afford the Canon or Nikon brand this is a good option! Its well priced, sold feel, good photos. Tho I will say that ive had trouble at times with its focus, esp at night shooting concerts. If your shooting on a crop senser camera then i would suggest this for sure.

I have had good results using this lens.

By

from Lincoln, NE  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I use this mainly for shooting my son playing tennis and portraits. I have had good results for each use. The $750 savings over the Sony version is the main reason I bought this lens. I do not have comparison shots for these lenses so I cannot comment on that. However, I am not disappointed and would buy this lens again. I would not recommend this lens for travel or a walk-around lens, as it is too big and too heavy.

Sigma 70mm-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM AF L

By

from Northeast Pa.  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I wanted a 70-200 2.8 but the Canon was a little out of my range.I read a lot of reviews on the sigma and most said they had a issue with the canon 7d,well I have a 7d i thought about renting one but on 11-24 2013 we attended the American Photo Model Shoot in NYC and Sigma was a sponsor, and they had lenses to tryout so I grabbed the 70-200 2.8 and was very impressed none of the issues showed up on my 7d the photos were very sharp good fast focus and I was very impressed and purchased it and I have not been disappointed.I gave it a 4 star rating in fairness I have not used a Cannon 2.8, but that being said I am very pleased with the lens overall and would encourage people to give it a try I think you will be pleased at the results and the $$$ savings are great compared to Canon
