Using a 5 in 1 reflector as a diffuser o

I have provided some lighting schemes where I used my 42 inch collapsible reflector/diffuser as a diffuser for my SB800 fired using my Nikon D300 and the Nikon CLS system. In the image to the above, you can see how the light stand mounted flash is about 12 inches from the diffuser and provides a large and relatively pleasing light source. The time of day is about 30 min before sunset do its getting pretty dark. If memory serves me correctly, the flash is set to full power. In the shot shown above, I employed the services of a couple of voice-activated light stands to speed up the process. I needed to add a second SB-800 at camera left to provide some fill. It was rapidly getting very dark outside.

More cons than pros...

A mixed quality product... On one hand, the stand and the reflector arm quality is decent. Less plastic and more metal would be better and the double ball joint isn't as nice as a real pro grip, but you get what you pay for. Nice, decent product there. On the other hand, the quality of the reflector itself is rather low: the zippers always get caught in the material and the metallic surfaces are very wrinkled. The color is good and the size is great for the price, but that doesn't make up for...

The color is good and the size is great for the price, but that doesn't make up for the bad material used around the zippers. I've used better reflectors in my career, including Lastolite, which are the best. There are many better picks out there, but they'll be tougher on your wallet. This reflector kit is an average buy, but it is also quite affordable. You get what you pay for...

Not Rugged! (broke) U get what U pay for

By

from Indianapolis, IN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Did it's job, till it broke. One of the height adjustment bracket/knobs broke on the stand. Next time I'll buy something that is better made, and will last--even if it costs more. Lesson learned.

Good reflector - disappointing stand

By

from Missouri  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The reflector is as the Wescott name implies - a good quality useable tool. The stand is an embarassment. I should have used it in time to return it. One plastic bracket broke on its first use and the plastic bracket is not strong enough to hold the reflector in a horizontal position. Buy Wescott reflectors all day long stay away from this stand.

Great purchase...Best Reflector

By

from Phoenix, AZ  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I just purchased the 5 in 1 reflector for an outdoor shoot. I have purchased cheaper reflectors in the past and have been happy with them to a certain extent. What makes this the best reflector I have ever purchased is the whole apparatus that allows you to work without an assistant. Great purchase!!!

Poorly working zipper on reflector.

By

from Indy  -  Photo Enthusiast

Stand is OK. Arm to attach reflector is OK. But, the zipper on the reflector to change from one surface to another is a smaller gauge than I believe it should be: it does not unzip smoothly, easily, or efficiently. It makes it very hard to transition quickly from one surface to another. I would not recommend this, and I hope that I will be able to return it. I don't want it.

Just right

By

from El Segundo, CA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Works as described. No complaints. I find it easy to use and much better than trying to handhold a reflector. I use all the various combinations of colors and diffusion. The black in particular works great as a flag. I sometimes shoot through an umbrella and through the diffuser for very soft light. JIM

Awesome Reflector Package!

Good value for the money. One of the best low-priced packages on the market. Has silver, white, gold and black + diffusion panel - you can't go wrong.

Great Umbrella Kit!

By

from Baltimore, MD  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Easy to set up and use, this product is a great valuer for the price. If you intend on using it outside, make sure to purchase some sand bags to hold it in place. Its lightweight design is not ideal for shots outside on a breezy day.

Absolutely No Regrets

By

from Bartlesville, OK  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Great value on these kits. I now have two of them and love them. They may not be built like tanks, but the construction is good and solid. They have lots of great uses. I have even found myself setting the scrim diffusion in front of basic flood lights and get a great white box style result. One of the best purchases I've ever made. I use them constantly while filming indoors and out. The only downside so far is that the zippers are a little difficult.

Shopper  For Christmas my wife bought just the 5 in 1 reflector without the stand. I would like a stand and arm to hold it. Could you suggest a good or at least comparable stand and arm?

Shopper  Does it come form some kind of carrying case of some sort? Or do I need to buy it separately?
MARK L  Hello, The reflector itself folds up and has a bag, but the stand does not include a bag. Sorry for the delayed response...email was lost among the mass of retail emails before the holidays. Thanks!
