Watch the video. It is VERY informative. You can spend as little or as much as you want. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. If you're a beginner with a big bank account go get whatever you can afford. If you're a beginner with a small bank account go out and get whatever you can afford. Simple.

DSLR Video Basics

Great beginner video - loved the homemade dolly track. Loved being shown the difference in supports. Recommend focusing on lower in supports as $4k is a bit much for a beginner.
