RICHARD H : will this fit a manfrotto 3405 tripod?RALPH P : This plate is intended to fit onto a tripod head and not directly onto the screw on which a head is mounted. There is no physical way for this plate to mount onto the tripod.ANNE H : I don't know about that specific tripod. When we bought our mounting plate we decided based on the picture alone. The 38 part of the plate designation relates to the screw size 3/8 inch which is used to support video equipment. Other than that, the plate mounting plate is identical to the 200PL14 which will properly fit the Manfrotto 804RC2 mount.Ernest Y : Neil,
I did a search using Google for "804RC2 mounting". The first link was to the Manfrotto site with the page for the 804RC2. On that page there are links to 3 pdf files under the Spare Parts tab. In the first PDF file it has the 200pl-14 and 200pl-34 listed at the bottom.RICHARD F : I don't know. But let me see if a further explanation will help. I bought one of the Manfrotto carbon fiber tri-pods a couple years back to mount a Zwarovski spotting scoop. I also bought the Vortex horizontal pistol friction grip. The 3/8 rapid connect mounting plate worked fine for that and I think it cam with the Vortex grip. The Zwarovski spotting scope was a sample supplied to me as a pro-staff member of a outdoor equipment rep group. I had to send it back at the end of the year and I forgot to remove the mounting plate. I then got in some Zeiss samples. I started searching out the options for the Zeiss and found that the 200PL38 would work on my new Manfrotto tri-pod and Manfrotto Model 222 vertical pistol grip mount. The problem was in finding the thing. It took a day or two of zipping around the net until I could find them. I cannot now remember who I got them from, but they only had three or four in stock. Given their cheap price and the difficulty in finding the item, I bought them out.
If I recall there are two sizes in these mounting plates and, if I recall correctly, it centers around the size of the bolt going into your optic. Can you get me a picture of your gear. I can then get an idea of the product. I do not know what an 804RC2 mounting is. If you find a mounting plate that works, buy a couple of them. .

Ordered the wrong one, returned it
I ordered the wrong one, it was my fault, instead I returned it and got this Manfrotto Rapid Connect Mounting Plate 1/4-20" for RC-2 Quick Release Systems (#3157N) by Manfrotto

Manfrotto 200PL38 Rapid Connect Mounting
I brought this to use on my Manfrotto ball head with my Nikon D700. [...] as described as they promised. I have no complain on either the product or the company. I will be doing business with them again.

3/8" Mounting Plate by Manfrotto
This can be used on a variety of Manfrotto heads. I needed it for my new large view camera with it's 3/8" mounting threads. There was no need to buy another tripod head, or for that matter a new tripod. I'm able to switch from 35 mm to dslr (both with 1/4" mounting threads) to view camera (3/8") in a matter of seconds using the same tripod. The two different size quick release plates are interchangeable, so there's no need to switch heads between cameras. What can I say about Manfrotto? They're a precise, sturdy brand of equipment, built for rugged use.

Good device
This little tool is fine except it is hard to remove the screw to make it smaller. Other than that you need one for every camera body.
