Questions & Answers

Shopper : WHAT IS CONNECT R-2 AND FASTEN R-3?SARA T : The connect R-2 is the carabiner type clip that swivels at the bottom of the strap. The fastener R-3 is the piece that screws into your camera's tripod mount. The R-2 and R-3 then snap together. Both are extremely secure.HEI P : I am sorry to say that that did not work with my body so I exchanged with regular one. HeiJEFFREY O : The connector is the carbiner looking part attached to the strap. The fastener is the small round part that screws into the bottom of your camera, or attaches to the tripod mounting on a 70/200 2.8 lens. There are different fasteners, you can buy them seperate and attach them to your lenses or camera bodies. He connected stays on your strap and what's used to hook and in hook from the strap.RACHEL G : They are the parts of the mechanism used to fasten the strap to your camera. The Connect R2 is a carabiner-style hook, and the Fasten R3 is a tripod screw-mount to which the Connect R2 attaches.EARL L : Sorry can't help, bought for my wife, she chose not to use and we resold.LEEANN M : The bottom of the strap screws into the bottom of your camera. The place where a tripod would go.JIM F : I believe the fastener is the lug that screws into the tripod socket of the camera. The connector is attached to the strap itself and is then connected by the user to the grommet of the fastener.
Shopper : can this be used by men?SARA T : Sure. Also, BlackRapid makes a comparable strap for men without the "ergonomic curve".MITCHELL M : I bought this for my wife but I use it sometimes too. It does have a subtle floral pattern though it's not that blatant. BEVERLY A D : The one I have doesn't seem to have a floral pattern but I don't see why it couldn't be used by a man. CHRISTINE D : Probably - it's just shaped to fit a woman's chest. EMILY P : It *could* be used by men; it is designed to fit the curves of a woman's body and has the option of a flowery fabric. It's subtle, and my husband has used mine in a pinch, but probably another option would be more traditionally suitable. Though you might be curvier and like flowery fabric, in which case, go for it!HEI P : I did not like it. too narrow on shoulder pad and it did not stay on shoulder also. I returned it.CHRIS K : Yep. It's just a strap. This model isn't sexist. LEEANN M : I don't see why a man couldn't use the strap too. I find it very comfortable and it help reduce the neck pain cause by carrying the camera with the factory strap.Nina H : definitely!LINDA H : It's designed for women, but I don't see why a man couldn't use it.ANDREA S : better get the one for men. infact, I am selling my "women's" version as it is just "silly".RACHEL G : I don't think the curve will hinder operation, but the strap is also slightly shorter (7.5 cm; 160 cm vs. 167.5 cm) than the classic strap, so larger men may find it too tight when worn cross-body.
PEGGY H : Can this strap be used in conjunction with a hand strap on camera?LINDA S : No, it can't.KATHY R : I use the Black Rapid RS-W1 Women's Strap and love it! It is so comfortable and great to not have a strap around my neck. For most hand straps I have seen, they screw into the bottom of the camera but they also have a second screw connection so you can attach the Black Rapid strap there. I don't use a hand strap so I am not sure how tight that connection is but if it is good and tight and you connect the Black Rapid strap, you should be able to have both connected and feel your equipment is safe. I don't think twice about knowing my camera and lens is safe around me using the strap.NANCY S : I don't see why it couldn't be used with a hand strap, depending on how the hand strap connects to the camera. If your hand goes into the strap on one side of the camera and doesn't screw into the bottom of camera, it might work very well. See if you can try your camera & strap with someone else's Black Rapid. It's easy to attach. It connects in one place, on the bottom of the camera. Keep in mind, it's designed to let the camera hang upside down, and it's really handy that way. Just turn your camera over and it's right where you need it. I tend to keep a hand on my camera, especially when it has a long lens attached. Guess I'm afraid it'll bump on something when I'm moving around fast. I love my BR. It took my sore neck away immediately. I'll never go back to a neck strap.KATHRYN P : I use this strap in conjunction with a Really Right Stuff L-plate and a hand strap that I also purchased from RRS.. The L-plate utilizes the camera's tripod socket. The hand strap attaches to the L-plate and the Black Rapid strap screws into the bottom of the L-plate. This arrangement works very well for me. If you already have a hand strap that utilizes the tripod socket, then I don't think this strap will work for you without some equipment changes.CHRISTINE D : Peggy, the strap is attached to the camera via the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera. I have never used a hand strap so I don't know how you attach it. Hope this has answered your question. ChristineChristopher F : Depends on the hand strap I guess. This strap attaches through the tripod mount at the bottom of the camera, so if your hand strap uses the normal strap holes on the camera, then I suppose you could.ROBERT S : The BR strap attaches only to the tripod lug, so if any other strap attaches only to the the body strap lugs then they would work fine together. I've had my BR almost a year now & have bought a couple as gifts. It's by no doubt my favorite camera assessory & I wouldn't dream of putting the old neck strap back on. I shoot DSLR with heavy Pro Glass and the strap for me is wonderful in several ways. It's the only strap I use. The BR strap has a quick attach/detach carabiner, if your other strap also has a quick attach/detach then okay, but if it is attached all the time then it may get in the way and/or so you down. The BR lets you grab you camera from the hanging position & start shooting instantly, and you can also just drop it & it will swing back down to your side.BY BECCA D : Yes, unless the hand strap attaches to the camera using the tripod mount. This strap uses the tripod mount and the camera hangs upside down. My neck strap (and probably your hand strap) attach to the camera in other places. I have to take this strap off when I want to use a tripod.KIRK M : Yes you can. It connects to the tripod mount at the base of the camera. It's a grreat strap.CHRISTINA M : This strap is made to be attached via the screw connection (tripod connection) at the bottom of a dslr, so in theory you could also have another strap attached to the camera at the same time.

Comfort and Convenience

I love this camera strap! The strap is very thoughtfully designed for women. I am tall (5'10") with a proportionate chest, and this strap lays flat and distributes the weight of even a giant lens quite nicely. I shoot ice hockey quite often, and a Canon 6D + 70-200mm IS lens is no problem. In addition, because I screw the tripod into the lens base instead of the camera, this strap stays on the camera to keep everything safe. I haven't had any problems with the attachment coming loose. There is a rubber gasket between the screw and the camera that provides a good deal of friction to keep it from unscrewing. I ordered the tether kit, but have not received it yet. I will use it when it arrives, because I can't imagine not having a back up plan for $4K+ camera gear around my body, but it doesn't seem like it will fail. I appreciate all the previous warnings, though, and check the connection often.

Just what I needed!

I can't give it 5 stars yet because I haven't been out traipsing around with my camera on my neck yet, but it's on my camera and ready to go. It was easy to put on and doesn't feel like the screw-in fastener is questionable at all. The strap fits my body perfectly and it's comfortable with the camera resting on my hip. I expect to save a lot of neck pain with this cross-body style.

My favored walk around strap

I have straps for wrist, belt, double cameras, and neck. This one is my favorite for walking around, especially with a larger lens. It is not as ideal for times you will be needing a tripod, as it uses the tripod mount hole to attach. It is perfectly comfortable, a better size for packing than the B.Rapid with the pockets and larger padding.

BlackRapid RS-W1 Women's Strap, Classic

Works really great, but remember just because it is curved for women, all women are built differently. Probably could have gotten away with a mans strap but irregardless this is a really nice strap. It is exactly as advertized. I would recommend it.

Comfort at it's best

After much research and reading many reviews, I went with the strap that had what I was looking for. This strap is comfortable, easy to adjust and is very durable. I wore it first to photograph a wedding for 7 hours and it was worth every penny. I will never use the original camera strap with a cutesy cover again. This is a fantastic strap!

Make lens change-out fast and safe

I love this strap so much that I have given them as gifts to my friends who are beginning photograhers using a DSLR as well as professionals. I have a heavy lens plus I carry 3 of my lenses with me in a shoot sac. The BlackRapid helps distribute the weight away from the neck and frees up my hands while I am searching for a lens in my bag to swap out.

Best Strap for carrying camera...

I recently visited Busch Gardens w/ a group of friends & of course, I bring my camera w/ me everywhere. I have a Nikon D90 w/ a battery grip on it & I used the 18-200mm lens. The only strap that comes w/ the camera is what I used. Needless to say, by the end of the day, my neck was really sore. That night, I went looking for a different strap online. I love shopping @ Adorama, & of course found the Black Rapid RS-W1 Women's Strap available. I bought it and I love it. What a difference...my neck is saved w/ this light weight strap. I will never go back to using the old camera straps. In fact, I will purchase another for my second camera....it makes a world of difference.

Great strap!

Very comfortable strap, really distributes the weight of the camera well, which helps on those long shooting days. I use it together with Canon's E1 hand strap - perfect combination!

Get it!!

Two friends said they would not go back to a conventional strap - now I wouldn't, either. Tried this as soon as I got it and love it. It is comfortable and convenient. Instead of having anything hanging off your neck, it is much better having this across from a shoulder. Although I am a bit short it doesn't mean I don't have other curves. The women will get my drift. The curve of this women's design rested right where it should be. I wore it for quite some time even the first day and it stayed comfortable. Another plus is that you don't look "tourist".

Black Rapid RS-W1 Women's strap -Awesome

Using the Black Rapid is so freeing and awesome to wear. Finally someone figured out such a great product to also design for women. I think it's the best investment I made and I love using it when I'm out shooting and it doesn't strain my neck.

Not all women are the same!!!

When I bought this, the salesman told me that "women are buying the regular Black Rapid 'for men' instead, and they're saying this one is unnecessary." Well, here's what I think. Not all women are built the same!!! Some women might have...um...more prominent reasons that require a contoured strap, and others might not. Neither is good or bad, it just is what it is. I personally found the regular BR strap, (NOT necessarily JUST for men by the way!) to be less comfy than the RSW-1, which fits like it was made for me. I love this thing. I also looked into getting another fastener after having read some reviews that suggest it might be a good idea to do that. Well, I didn't. The Black Rapid fastener that it comes with is just fine - does not mark up my camera and is quite secure. I was also told that a lot of women don't like the floral design. Well, that's a personal, aesthetic choice, but I don't find it to be too girly or even all that noticeable. It's not like they designed it with some cheesy, colorful flowers or anything. It's so subtle, it's just fine. My only complaint is the lack of instructions on how to fit and set this thing up - other than a little not-so-great video on the Black Rapid site or on YouTube, I couldn't find anything else to help out with that. But once you figure it out, this thing is absolutely great. Me and my "prominent reasons" for having a contoured strap are very appreciative and very happy with this product.

a great change for the way I shoot...

This camera strap has been a lifesaver! Well, it hasn't saved my life, exactly, but it HAS saved me from several headaches, bad posture, a dented camera, and the dreaded conspicuousness (is that a word?) of having a camera bouncing on my chest as I walk during a shoot. My "regular" camera strap gave me headaches because of the weight on the back of my neck (and how it changed my posture). I also had trouble with my old strap when I was bending over to work with little ones. My camera would swing right into the model OR the props as I leaned down. Not good! Well, not any more! Since using my new BlackRapid strap, I can securely have my camera right by my hand at my side....or swung around to my back. And, it stays behind me when I work with models and props. No dings or injured models. Ha! Additionally, the way the camera hangs (upside down) makes grabbing it quickly a cinch! The grip is right where I need it to be...like how a cowboy draws a gun out of a holster! The most important aspect to this strap is the fact that it doesn't trigger headaches for me like the traditional behind-the-neck strap. The weight of the camera is not on the back of my neck, so I have decreased headaches...and better overall shooting posture. Lastly, I really appreciate the fact that the BlackRapid makes me less conspicuous a shooter. I can have the camera slung to my rear when interacting with people or crowds where I want to blend in. My camera is not bouncing on my chest shouting "hey, here comes a PHOTOGRAPHER with a big camera!". I can be seen as a regular person in delicate situations and not cause a distraction...because my camera is hidden behind me when I am not taking a photo. I will NEVER go back to a traditional behind-the-neck strap. Ever! Ingenious invention for us photographers! Thank you, BlackRapid!

As Borat would say..."niiiice"

At first I thought the contour strap was a gimmick, but in reality it is quite comfy! I love my new strap! My only gripe has to do with the fastener that attaches to the bottom of the camera. I genuinely feel that with continuous use it can easily become loose with the movement of the camera. I will be buying the Sun Sniper Bear instead to replace the one that came with this strap :/ I would've given this 5 stars, but this issue cost my rating 1 star.
