Great to have

I use a wireless lavaliere and cannot afford to have the battery die in the middle of a presentation. This tester has prevented me from losing valuable audio on my recordings.

Expert and quick battery assessment for all common older types

This will give you a realistic rating of the power left in a battery. It only withs with AA, AAA, and 9V alkaline or rechargeable NiCad or NiMH type batteries. I've compared this against 12 other battery "testers" on the market and for the money, this is the cheapest accurate battery tester out there. Not only does it put a load on each tested battery appropriate to the type of battery being tested, so you don't get phony phantom voltage readings floating excessively optimistic charge remaining info your way, but it gives you a good enough sense of the level of charge left in 20% increments. If this says a battery is bad, it's truly bad. If it says a battery is good to go, its truly good to go. There is only one better tester on the market and its cost is several times what this one was but it does other and newer battery types such as Lithium Ion. This one like I said is fairly limited in its utility now adays, but if you don't need to test button cell batteries or #18650 LtihIon rechargeabels or CR232R or other more contemporary batteries, nor Cs nor Ds, this may be the best tester for you. There is one much cheaper tester on the market which only has a single indicator light which came in a close third place, but that one doesn't give you a very accurate idea of how much charge a battery has left. IT depends how fast the light blinks or flickers. And that one only does AA batteries, so this on e is good enough to make a lot of people who use it happy with its compatibility/versatility most of the time again save those who need Lithium testing. I've used one of these testers for years. That one was manufactured by a different company then, but it is the same (I bought a newer one made by Kelkin Poer Nad it operates exactly the same as the older ones. No quality change. On the downside, you can get some rechargeable batteries in a situation where the onboard charging electronics that cut-off the battery charge mode by monitoring its charging as it reaches the end to decide when to drop the charge down to trickle or off raises the resistance of the overall battery which makes it react weird with the tester's internal electronics that its powering and so the tester may go into an odd pattern of lights or blinking of the lights that doesn't not indicate anything except that it can not properly test the battery and more than likely the battery is no longer good when this kind of things occurs. Also, while the tester loading is fairly good at combating "recovery" phantom voltage readings that make batteries look like they are more full than they are when not under loading, it alone is not completely 100% accurate when it comes to NiMH and NiCad batteries. Some NiCad batteries seem to perform better than it credits them and some NiMH batteries perform worse than it credits them. The only way be sure with some batteries that the reading is correct is to take the reading twice, then store the battery a day, come back to it and test it again and see if the test is the same level or less. If it dropped down 40% or more on the charge scale averaged over 2-3 readings in under a week, then that rechargeable battery is no longer viable and will need to be recycled or refurbished using the overwhelmingly more powerful battery zapping method to attempt to shock the battery back into a better working order. And sometimes refurbishing won't work either and its just time to retire the battery period. Please note, after several years of use, the metal clip on the left side use to accommodate the two different battery size length differences will eventually snap off from the constant back and forth pressure on it. A simple soldering of a piece of wire in its place will solve that problem. In terms of its 0, 20, 40-, 60, 80, or 100% capacity remaining assessment, it is a little unfairly weighted down for non` demanding applications. 50% life for a camera may be true but it/s more than 50% life left in a less demeaning application like use in an LED bulb type flashlight. SO just keep that in mind when testing batteries that batteries that test low are still likely fine for use in less demanding applications that don't put as much loading on the batteries as this tester does. This product really does need to be updated to accommodate other battery types including CR32 type watch 3V battery "button cells" and #18650 4.6V and smaller Lith-Ion and LifePO3 rechargeables to make this product more relevant for today's market and the wider range of batteries in use in demanding applications like RC vehicles, drones, and high powered lighting and other products..

amazing little gadget added to my gear

A fellow photographer showed this to me and it was a must have for testing AA batteries used in my external flashes. Being about to test AAA, 9V, etc was an added bonus for testing batteries used in my kids toys. For the price, easy to use, accurate reading = a must have.

Nice little gadget

I was looking for something to check my AA and AAA batteries and I found this little gadget. Very easy to use, small and light enough to carry everywhere. A little bit pricey to be honest but really nice anyway.

Great little tester, does it all, simple!

Loving this little guy - tests AA, AAA and 9-volt regular and rechargeable. The green LEDs show the charge remaining, easy peasy. Best tester I've owned, can see immediately which batteries to recycle and which to put in the "Still Good" bin. Money well spent. I recommend this one!

This is my battery tester of choice

This is my battery tester of choice --in fact, I go out of my way in order to find it and to purchase it, both for myself and as 'token gift' for friend/family.

The best but not indestructible

Use this daily. The copper contact on the left will eventually break off from metal fatigue. Simple limitation of the material physics. Super tester.

How much power do you have?

I was a skeptic until I started checking a collection of batteries I planned to dump in an electronics recycling bin. To my surprise most of the batteries still had plenty of power. Yes, I still prefer fresh batteries when starting a project, but this unit makes it easy to determine if batteries are worth saving as spares or for use in other devices. Plus, it works with a variety of batteries.

Compact, efficient

Most useful for AA and AAA batteries. Not sure yet how to check cr123 batteries. But I bought this to check the former, so that's ok.

One of the few battery testers that let's you select between Primary & Rechargable. I always check my 2-way radio batteries bvefore going out in the field.

Favorite Battery Tester

After much web research, this was the only battery tester I could find that both places the tested battery under a load (the proper way to test) and did not require a battery to be installed inside the tester in order for it to apply a load to the tested battery. Another valuable feature is a switch to test either Alkaline or Rechargeable batteries, which I assume changes the load threshold for the expected voltage difference between those two types of batteries (1.2 versus 1.5 volts). It tests AA, AAA, and 9-Volt batteries. If it could test C and D batteries as well, it would be absolutely perfect. I still gave it 5 stars because I rarely need to test those two sizes, and it does a super job of testing the batteries I use most. I bought three of these testers so I can keep a tester in my office, home, and luggage for travel.

For the money, my favorite tester

I needed a small,light-weight battery tester to carry anywhere(basement, garage, house) for a quick test of some battery powered equipment not working right. And it tests rechargeable and standard batteries, you just have to push a switch for each of the types. You install the battery and it will show all the lights for a second if the battery has a charge, then you have to wait (a few seconds) as all the lights go out. Then lights will come on depending on the power left in the battery.

Simply the greatest little tester

I've been using a couple of these little Belkin testers for nearly three years, just ordered a couple more -- one more for myself and another for my sister whose digital camera takes AA batteries. I have found these testers absolutely invaluable and like to have one in every room where I use anything that takes AA or AAA batteries (in my case, cameras, flash units, radios, various remote controls, LED flashlights, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeter, etc.). The two I already own have been absolutely reliable and perfect in every respect. I'd hate to be without them.

This is a very high quality tester.

This is a very durable and handy tester for traveling and vacations. Much better and more accurate than others I've tried. This is a bit more expensive but well worth the cost as the cheaper ones just aren't reliable or accurate.

Great little battery tester!

Solid state, no pesky wavering needles or other moving parts -- its LED display is far superior to those types. Self-powered by the battery it's testing. Very accurate and reliable so far. I only use mine for AA and AAA cells, both NiMH and alkaline -- there's a switch to set it for rechargeable or primary batteries. I like it so much I'll probably buy another to keep in my camera bag -- it's so small and lightweight it can be tucked into practically any camera bag.
