I purchased one. The line would never retract. Thought it was a good idea and returned it for another one. It arrived. I extended the line ONCE and it won't retract. This product is a miserable failure that shouldn't even be on the market.

this gadget was DOA. The cable would not retract at all upon first trial. Item was returned at my cost which was fair because the product never worked.

i extended the leash for the first time upon opening the product and then switched to 'retract' mode and it was totally and irretrievably jammed. no amount of tweaking or coaxing could ever get the leash back into its compartment.

Nice idea, but retraction function stopped working after 3 uses. Glad it wasn't more $$.

I wanted to use this to stabilize the camera vertically when tripod or monopod is not practical, and it did provide stability, once the wire was out and braced. But the failure of the product's rewind mechanism to retract the wire quickly and efficiently is such a time-consuming struggle as to make it unfeasible to use. Took me 15 minutes or more to get it to retract, by letting it retract until it stalled, pulling wire back and teasing it back in--multiple times. Don't have time to waste on this, especially on a commercial shoot. For me, this design flaw overrides the value it has as a stabilzer. Product needs to be re-engineered so that the wire retraction is smooth and fast, like that of a good tape measure. That would make it worthwhile.

Cable would not retact the first time I used it. It could be useful when one could not use a tripod ---if it would work.

Pulled it out once, and the unit would not retract. Don't waste your money.

Adds a good additional measure to avoid camera shake beyond any image stabilization provided by the camera or lens. While it installs easily you need to be sure it is firmly attached and to check it from time to time or it may come loose. With this caution, it works very well.

The Steadycam helps to keep camera steady while taking a picture. It gives assurance that the picture will not be affected by significant camera shake. Combined with image stabilization provide by the camera or lens functions, this device makes it easy to avoid fuzzy pictures due to camera movement.

I know there are cheaper ways to do what Steadepod does, but this comes in a sleek package. The tension cord locks and unlocks at the desired length, rolls neatly back into its case much like a vacuum cord, and is fairly unassuming. After a miserable experience awkwardly lugging my 3 1/2 pound tripod on a 18-hour mountain scrambling trip along with all my other gear, I needed another solution. I'm going on a 5-day backpacking trip this weekend, and I'll be taking Steadepod this time. Won't be as good as a tripod, but beats nothing at all.

Actually, I only tried to use it once, it did not stay in my belt loop, so I could not use it. I was in a hurry, and did not really have the time to try and get it tight. I gave it a 5 because a far as I saw, it did what it said. When I take the time to put it on, I'll send another review. I was iln too much of hurry.

As simple as this product is as creative and useful it is. As soon as I received it, I decided to make a test to see whether it does what it supposes to, and as you can see from the test picture, it really works! The shot on the left was taken with SteadePod mounted, and the shake is much less than the one on the right. I used my 24-70mm lens, set at ISO 100, exposure 1/10 second, aperture f/3.5 in a low light room. This is the very first shot with SteadePod, and I believe with further usage the result will be remarkable.

Go to the hardware store. Buy a 1/4"-20 eye bolt and 5 feet of nylon rope. Tie the rope to the eye bolt, thread the bolt into the tripod socket, step on the rope. It gives you the same functionality for about one-twelfth of the price.

It's an OK product in a pinch when you don't want to carry a tripod but I believe leaning against a tree, building or another structure to be just as good

I have found that the Steadepod helps provide great stability when you don't want to carry or are prohibited from using a tripod. It is very portable, lightweight, and easy to use. The cable adjusts to any height that you need. Also, the ability to hook it onto your belt provides a greated range of movement, without having to extend it to place your foot on it. It fits in your pocket and can be ready quickly. You can leave it attached to your camera and it is unobtrusive when not in use. It adds stability at a low price, but is solidly built. I use it often and it has been a great addition to my camera equipment. I highly recommend it.

I was very very hesitate about this item, one of those to good to be true, but I was wrong. Becuase of medical reasons I shake, I camera adjusts for some of it, but not all. I hate having to pull out a tripod everytime I want to take a shot with a zoom lens or a night shot. So when I saw this I thought it would be perfect, it did take a little bit of working with to figure it out, but once I did, it did exactly what I needed. Glad I didn't listen to the to good to be true

Such a simple item, but yet very useful. Does the job of holding camera fairly steady without tripod.

The SteadePod is compact, discrete and cheap. However it's NOT a replacement for a tripod, or even a good monopod. It can be somewhat helpful (slightly better than nothing) when it isn't possible to use a tripod or monopod... for example in museums or other places where a tripod or monopod is banned or frowned upon. Although, you just might attract attention for your odd behavior. It's also rather awkward to use with only two hands... release, unroll, place under foot, extend, lock, etc. All 'n all, a clever idea that looks better on paper than in practice.

Attach a SteadePod to your camera and take shots you never thought you could without a tripod or monopod. Simply attach to your camera, extend and anchor the foot pad, pull to place a small amount of tension in the cable and you have a steady picture!
Easy to use, the small amount of cable tension keeps your camera steady for low light, long exposure or high zoom situations. Even places where you can't take tripods or monopods. Perfect for travel, sporting events, hiking museums. Use on still or video cameras; anytime you need a steady shot.
