Shopper : Will this work as a bounce flash enhancer indoors with shorter lenses?LOUIS M : No. This device uses a Fresnell lens to concentrate theoretical radiation into a narrower beam. A shorter lens of the camera is used for a wide angle image.. You would end up with very uneven lighting. When using bounce flash, point the flash to a spot on the ceiling that is halfway between it and the subject. Bounce flash has two benefits over direct flash: 1. It eliminates or reduces shadows 2. It reduces or eliminates the 1/d^2 spreading loss. Consider a long , narrow room with a long table setting. Direct flash would blow the whites at the close end while the far end would be underexposed. Bounce flash, with spot exposure metering halfway down the table will produce good results. Not great.JAMES B : I suppose it would, but the primary function of the Fresnel lens is to reduce the area illuminated by the flash; ie, to focus the light. When I use the Beamer it is to give my flash unit extra range or distance. If you google this you will find many pictures that illustrate the smaller area that is flashed with the Beamer. Basically you sacrifice area illuminated for increased range and power of your flash. I would think that if you used the Beamer to bounce for indoor pictures you would have to experiment to find the right distance and angle to fully illuminate your subject.RICHARD D : Yes, but you have to be careful that you get the coverage of the lens.CARROLL R : It isn't made for that purpose but light is light. You will need to make a few practice tries to get the proper exposure if you want to try.DONALD T : I've not used it in that manner but I'm sure it can be used in that manner. Thanks!LOUIS M : I use this device with my Canon 430 very successfully with a Canon 100-400mm motion stabilized lens, with the whole rig mounted on a rifle like shoulder mount with trigger finger shutter button. I have surgically picked out details like a macw on a branch under a forest canopy in Costa Rica, and my daughter with violin in an orchestra waiting for the conductor's down beat sign, when I was in the back of the school auditorium. It is physically matched to a specific flash because the plastic side frames have to snugly fit the contour of the flash body, and the focal length is set for a particular incident beam angle. Great product

This is a great product for extending the flash light to a longer distance, especially with a 400mm+ lens. It is easy to connect and dismantle, making it easy to carry.

Excellent addition to the camera bag

This is a great light-weight tool to carry in the camera bag. Basically folds flat and weighs next to nothing. A must-have for long range nature photos. Hope it holds up for years.

Better Beamer for Canon430 EX

I use this flash extender/better beamer for birding and it works perfectly as fill flash. It's a bit pricey and not the easiest thing to set. And it doesn't feel robust either but the velcro is enough to keep the lens attached. I would really appreciate if it comes with a pouch/bag and not just cheapy plastic bag.

I would purchase this item again

I have found this flash extender to be very useful in a variety of shots wildlife in paticular. It is easy to pack and set up, the biggest benefit for my use is the lighting of deep shadow's in secluded bird's and animals in dense limb's or brush. I recommend this item for it has many use's in the field.
