Didn't work out of the box

Didn't work out of the box. Scans were blurry, out of focus. The manufacturer said it was a fixed focus system and had to be sent back. The outside of the box said it was autofocus.

Great scans--amazing ICE software!

I needed a compact 35mm film scanner since I found my HP Flatbed a hassle to load negatives and slides. The 3650u appealed to me for it's small size, decent resolution and advertised speed. Well, for the resolution quality I was interested in, the speed is not there ... BUT the amazing ICE software all but eliminated the need for dusting my negs and slides before scanning, and thus, left me with virtually no UFO's to touch up with Photoshop. Only 2 criticisms: I occasionally get some scanner-generated image artifacts, but a rescan takes care of that (I now ALWAYS pre-scan and carefully inspect before my final scan.) The other issue is that the product was advertise to include PS Elements 6, but came with Elements 5, which was only a slight improvement over Elements 4, which I already own. It would have been nice to get what was advertised. In sum: great scans and the ICE software is fantastic! I would highly recommend this product.

usiing for other film as well (16mm)

I have found I can use the scanner to digitize my old 16mm film. This requires some extra work, but I have not found another scanner that will work. I have full fledged bulk 35mm scanners and flat beds, but this is the only one which will allow me to handle my old film I do need to develop a tool to hold in place, but this is great as I was about to abandon the film

Pretty Good Value

Have run hundreds of slides with zero jams. Start it and forget it. Colors not great, but can be fixed in Adobe. Quality not near Nikon 5000 (which I also own) but ~ zero jamming counts for a lot! You want professional results ~ skip this and get a Nikon. You want to push a zillion slides with zero effort, take this. Get the 100 slide holder also!

Uggghh! Color calibration, PLEASE!

No color calibration for Fujichrome provia film? None of the otehr calubration scheme presets come close to accurate colors. I shouldn't have ot use photoshop to reproduce the colors on the slide.

The PF3650u film scanner is a high resolution upgrade to the company's basic model, and is designed for the hobbyist or photography enthusiast who is looking for image enhancement features and easy handling of large image files.

The inclusion of Digital ICE3 by ASF (Kodak Austin Development Center) allows the user to digitally clean, correct and restore film images to optimize the image quality. The PF3650u operates at 3600dpi optical resolution, which produces a digital image of approximately 17.9 million pixels (3,456 X 5,184).

A White and infrared LED array is used to assure consitent and exact color conformity in scans. With a 3.2 dynamic range, 48-bit color capability and 3600 X 3600 dpi optical resolution, the PF3650u is capable of producing a high quality scanned image of up to 10" x 14".

The unit, which is lightweight (2.2 pounds) and measures just 2 3/4 X 6 5/8 X 11 inches, connects via the USB port to any Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista® or Power Mac G4 or G5 or multicore Intel® processor. The PF3650u is equipped with a USB 2.0 interface and back-end support for USB 1.1, the system used for both PC and Macintosh.

The USB 2.0 interface allows data transfer as fast as 480MB per second, which is comparable to transfer speeds using an IEEE1394 interface.

Pacific Image's expanded version of its proprietary user interface, Cyberview, is included with the PF3650u. The new version, Cyberview X, now includes one of the industry's largest film color management profiles with 17 negative film terms, 13 positive color profiles and 10 B/W profiles to accommodate nearly any popular film brand or type in use today. Users are also provided the ability to update or add to film terms from the company's Web site at www.scanace.com.

The PF3650u comes bundled with the world class image editing tool, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, which allows the user to produce high-quality images for print or for Internet or Web site design use. It is also compatible with other popular TWAIN-compliant image editors. Set-up is a snap, with easy-to-install scanning software and drivers.
