Wanted a small camera that I could take with me when out with the family. Takes DSLR quality shots and offers a wide range customization to work with different shooting styles. A tip for those that shoot using auto ISO, you have to disable the dynamic range compensation option in the menu for it to work correctly.

Great camera very compact size. It takes wonderfull picture. I took this camera to Thailand vacation. I am amaze how colorful and sharp the picture look. I left setting in Aoto Mode most of the time. Only one big disappointment DUST get in the sensor very easily. I was in luck when I got back home I send it back to Adorama for warranty and great service. Thank you Adorama they ship me with a brand new one. I went ahead and bought hood kit hope to protect future dust From getting in again.

After reading many reviews, I purchased the GR primarily for its pocketability for the times when a DSLR no longer fits the shooting situation. I did not expect the GR's IQ to surpass my K3 when similarly configured. It is amazing how low of a shutter speed can be hand held with the GR with acceptable results. Among the reviews the topic of dust on the sensor is probably the biggest negative of the GR. But I think to some degree the problem is subjective. Of the 3 DSLR's I've owned, with hundreds of lens changes, I have done remarkably few dust removal operations. Yes, if I make a deliberate effort to find dust on the DSLR sensor I can. But I have yet to have a picture I felt was ruined by dust and unrecoverable in post. Certainly your mileage may vary, but I plan on enjoying the GR, a true pocket sized camera, for what it can do, and not pixel peep myself into a panic. Should the sensor dust become objectionable I'll probably clean it myself. A while back I tried a Fuji x100s, I returned it because I did not like the ergonomics. Surprising the GR is even smaller but I find one hand operation quite easy. I ended up just threading a piece of paracord through the bottom strap point and making a small loop that the pinky finger fits through which keeps the camera safer with one hand operation. The menu system seems thought out fairly well. The focus speed is not perfect but acceptable for my style of shooting; I have not resorted to using the snap focus feature yet. As others have commented an external battery charger should have been included with a camera at this price point. Spare batteries are a must because this camera begs to be used and used a lot.

The Ricoh GR series (first released as a film camera in the late 90's) is something of a whispered legend among photographers. I had heard these whisperings but only heeded them recently, when I looked for a second body to complement my Panasonic GX85. I wanted something that could cross boundaries between casual, everyday, always-on-me and serious image quality. There aren't a lot of options in this area, certainly not in this small and light of a package. If you're not familiar with the GR, I encourage you to compare the dimsensions and weight against any other semi-serious camera in existence. This one is a true micro-wonder. Controls are highly customizable, photographer-oriented and easy to use. File quality is excellent, with DNG RAWs that can handle a nice amount of editing. The lens used, despite being a collapsible model, is stellar, possibly the sharpest 28mm equivalent lens I've ever seen. There is only one real problem with the GR II, and that's the possibility of dust on the sensor. The camera isn't well sealed against debris entering the body, and since it is a fixed lens it can't be cleaned by the user. I noticed a large dust spot after only three weeks of usage, which may have indeed been there from when I first received the camera. Fortunately Adorama has agreed to replace it for me. It's not the end of the world if I end up with more dust spots in the long run: it can be cleaned during the warranty period, and, if all else fails, dust spots can be cloned out. Still, this is a major thing to be aware of since most experiences I have read online do run into this issue. The camera is such a wonderkind that even with the dust issue in mind, it's worth it to anyone looking for what it offers.

The perfect travel camera, really. It’s the best camera I’ve ever felt from an ergonomics standpoint, you can operate it with one hand. That means your left hand is free to hold coffee/beer/wine/a child’s hand. It also focuses quickly in good light, produces razor sharp images from wide open, and has great black and white jpegs. It also has in-body charging, so you don’t have to bring a separate battery charger if you’re packing light (though it does take a special type of cable, which is unfortunate). To date, this is probably the only camera I’ve ever bought that I have zero regrets about.

The camera is wonderful to use but the remote app doesn't work making that aspect of the camera useless.. Maybe it's the latest version of Android? The stand alone app from Ricoh isn't setup for remote camera option. Rlcoh continues to tremendously behind the competition.

Great quality camera and also very functional. Settings are easy to use and has a lot of useful features. The only negative thing I have to say is the WI FI function and how tedious the process is to download pictures to my mobile device. Other than that it is a great camera!

I so much enjoy and love learning new stuff about my Ricoh II. Really, it piques my curiosity about how fascinating pictures turn out. All the pictures I took are to die for! Everyday I review them repeatedly with sheer curiosity. I'm super happy about my Ricoh ownership! Woot!

I've owned this camera for a few weeks now. Just getting back into photography recently after may years of shooting on a film Nikon FA and more recently Nikon D90. The Ricoh GRii is a great "take anywhere" camera. I keep it with me all the time and use it for street/travel and work/field camera. The black and white .JPEG's that come out of this camera are fantastic. The Snap focus feature helps to capture shots that ordinarily I would miss. The menus and customization are among the best I've seen. I wouldn't recommend this as your only camera but for street and travel it is just awesome - very pleased with my purchase.

Awesome little camera, super sharp images and the ability to "set it and forget it" helps free me up to just shoot. So far loving the results and all the customizable features. Funky but fun camera, been as impressed with color photos as I have the black and white (although the black and whites are just spectacular). RAW files really do have a lot of malleability. Jpegs aren't bad either. Snap focus is where it's at, too. Lastly, while autofocus isn't fast in low light, imo it's plenty fast enough for normal outdoor shooting. Do not regret or have any buyers remorse when it comes to this camera.

Having used this camera now for several weeks, I'm loving it more every day. Love the solid heft, build quality and surprising light weight. Love the great easy to set up customization, color rendition and image quality. Have been able to publish several photos SOOC (straight out of camera) with minimal tweeking in Lightroom. Perfect for travel, street and family pix.

I have been shooting professionally for a few years now and I always saw Ricoh on the boxes in the corner of my local camera store. It wasn't until I started looking for an everyday-carry camera that I really knew what a Ricoh was. I have owned many Nikon, Canon, and Sony full frames and I can tell you this camera is groundbreaking new niche and now that I have it I don't know how I ever lived without it. Its sharper than most of my pro glass, has the best ergonomics you could design for a camera of its size and the thought put into everything on this camera is unmatched. It is extremely tough (full magnesium body), has all the menu you want and nothing you dont and the menu is very clean and functional. Quickly accessing main features is super easy and buttons are very customizable. I could go on and on. I think everyone should own one of these and keep it on them like their cell phones. I wish more people just knew about it.

Excellent camera. The one thing to add to the other reviews is that the handling is great -- IF you are right-handed. (I am.) Then it has true one-handed operation. It might be something to consider.

I had to learn what was aperture, shutter speed, and ISO at first. (It was not so difficult.) Once I got it, I started enjoying taking photos. GRII has a same sensor with entry level DSLRs. If you don't care about taking photos from far distance using zoom lenses, I strongly recommend this camera!

I am still learning how to use this little gem but I am very impressed with the sharp images and natural colors it produces. It can be extensively customized and thankfully Ricoh includes a fairly detailed instruction manual. Drawbacks are few. I wish manual focusing was easier. Sometimes the setting works and sometimes not but that may be something I am doing wrong. Overall an excellent, lightweight pocketable camera.

"The Ricoh GR II is my loyal companion and it's literally always on me when I leave the house. The wide lens and compact size make it a perfect camera for candid street photography and the image quality is superb."
Built upon the legacy of the award-winning GR series, the GR II combines exceptional image quality and outstanding portability. It boasts a high-performance wide-angle lens and 16.2 megapixel APS-C size image sensor that delivers superb image quality with edge-to-edge sharpness. Equipped with built-in Wi-Fi and NFC functions for wireless connection with smartphones and tablets, while offering complete remote shooting functionality.
The GR II features a compact, high-performance GR lens with a focal length of 28mm (in the 35mm format). This lens incorporates two high-precision aspherical optical elements and a high-refraction, lower-dispersion glass element to minimize distortions and chromatic aberration, while reproducing sharp, high-contrast images even at edges of the image field.
Featuring a large, APS-C-size CMOS image sensor with approximately 16.2 effective megapixels, the GR II provides a top sensitivity of ISO 25600. By reprogramming the AWB algorithm, it assures more precise white-balance control under artificial lighting such as fluorescent lights, while reducing the color bleeding of green hues in outdoor shooting.
The GR II comes equipped with Wi-Fi functions for wireless connection with mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. It is also compatible with NFC (Near Field Communication) functions for easy pairing with mobile devices.
The GR II’s high-speed AF system captures a subject in focus in a mere 0.2 seconds. Start-up time is only one second, and the GR II’s AF Continuous Shooting function captures a series of photos at a maximum speed of approximately four images per second. That allows capturing fast-moving subjects, such as athletes and wildlife, all in incredibly sharp focus.
Even though it incorporates a host of Wi-Fi functions, the GR II comes in the same size as the GR. Its exterior housing is made of lightweight, high-rigidity magnesium alloy. The body is designed for maximum holding comfort and operational ease, with all control buttons laid out for easy access and shooting convenience.
The GR II provides a total of 17 effect modes, which allow the user to apply a variety of image processing within the camera to create the desired visual expression. Including Clarity and Brilliance, six modes have been newly added to the selection, allowing the user to adjust some parameters to the desired level.
The GR II captures beautiful Full HD movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16:9 ratio, 30 frame rate) in the H-264 recording format. By teaming this function with the GR lens and the large image sensor, the GR II assures high-quality movies.
RICOH GR II, a premium compact camera with Wi-Fi and Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality. The GR II is the smallest premium compact with DSLR image quality, making it ideal for advanced photographers who want the quality of an SLR camera but the portability of a smart phone.
To manage the new built-in Wi-Fi and NFC functions, Ricoh created the GR Remote, a web-based application which allows users to control camera settings virtually via any browser, as well as view and share images wirelessly. Image Sync, available on PENTAX DSLR models, is also supported on the new GR II. It enables GR users to easily browse and transfer images to accompanying mobile devices.
The Ricoh GR II offers the key features desired by photo enthusiasts: high resolution, a wide angle lens, quick shoot time and portability. With its new Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities, photographers can now easily share their exceptional street and travel shots more easily, benefiting from the best of both worlds.
