Questions & Answers

Bob S : Can this flash be used on a Nikon D5200?JAMES S : I'M NOT AN EXPERT BUT I DOUBT THAT A SONY FLASH WILL WORK ON A NIKON. SUGGEST YOU CONTACT SONY OR NIKON.CHARNICE B : This flash can only be used with Sony Cameras. If you compare the top of the camera (where the flash/hot shoe connector can be placed) of a Sony and a Nikon, they are different. Sony purposefully created a line of products that can only be used by those who have Sony DSLR cameras. I hope that this helps.FRED M : Sorry. I do not know.LOUIS S : NoRAPHAEL N : No. This flash comes in two versions, one with the old Minolta shoe with an adapter to fit the new hot shoe of the newer Sony camera. The other is the standard five point contact with Sony configuration, which is different than Nikon's. However, Nikon makes a similar small and handy flash to complement its own line.GARY V : Don't know. Don't have a Nikon 5200. I have a Nikon Coolpix A. The Sony flash does not fit the hot shoe on this camera. GaryALAN K : Sorry, I use a Sony and it works great for fill in and as a trigger for my 58's. no experience with nikons. I think the mount is different.WALTER B : I doubt it it, but I really don't know.
palle p : Does this flash work with my 7 year old Sony DSC-R1 10 Mp Dig Camera?WALTER B : Sorry, I don't know.BRENT D : Sorry, but I can't help. I'm using the flash on a Sony Nex-7.IRVING F : Don't know your camera. I looked it up and it recommends the sony HVL F32x which is discontinued. You may have to contact sony to see if the connection is the same. Or you could buy it and try it, they give you 30 days to return. Good LuckJEFF M : I'm sorry, I don't know. I have an A300 and it works fine.ANDREW R : Unfortunately no, Sony does not list the DSC-R1 as compatible with this flash unit.
Shopper : Does the Sony HVL-F20AM external flash work well on a Sony SLT A57? Am expecting it to project at least 30 feet. Looking forward to a response. Thanks, GaryBRENT D : I'm afraid I can't say, since I use it with a NEX-7, but I am quite happy with the small pocketable size and light output.ROSE B : I'm using it on the Sony SLT A65 and it works fine - a bit better than the internal Flash - you can bounce it in lower ceiling rooms or use it directly + it is small. 30 feet? thats a lot/eay too much for this small flash - you'll need one of the bigger one's if you're sure that you'll need that rangeIRVING F : Gary, I purchased the flash for my wifes camera ,sony a35. It works well and bounces well. it is also easy to carry, great size but the guide number is 20 . I am not sure about 30 ft range. I use a sony 43AM, flash guide number 140 . If price is an issue Metz makes excellent flashes, also at less money.WALTER B : The flash works well with the various alphas I have used. I use it mainly indoors as a bounce flash. In the direct mode it has a telephoto setting which narrow the cone. I don't really know its range. I have used it at 30 feet outdoors as a fill in flash. I turn the ASA to 1600 at least for this and am able to freeze a humming bird at 30 feet.GUILLERMO S : It probably won't project that far. The flash is also pretty flimsy and breaks easily. It's not a very good buy. It's good for snapshots but don't expect too much from it. GUILLERMO S : It probably w

Great job without the added weight

I wanted a flash for my Sony A850 but not the extra weight like most external flashes. Bounce flash is great for taking portraits.

Great Compact Flash

I shoot a lot at car shows. And in that situation this flash works extremly well. I can go between exterior and dark interior shots very quickly and with lovely results. The auto on/off when you raise or fold the unit saves valuable battery life and makes shooting less clostraphobic than have one right in your face all the time. It makes dealing with high contrast subjects a breeze rarely overpowering even in tight quarters. I do have some minor gripes. I wish that it used AAs instead of AAAs so I don't have to change out batteries as often. I have to remeber to carry a spare set on long shoots. They might be able to squeeze a bit more power with AAs too. Long range shots are not it's forte. But for precise lighting in the short to medium range its a great unit. Combined with my A350s managment the results are great in lighting and tone quality. and it doesnt make people see spots.

It's OK

It's a good all around product. The fatal flaw is battery use. It uses up battery at a very fast rate.

Excellent for its intended purpose

This is a great tool within its limits. It is a little stronger than the built in flash and does sit higher on the camera so that helps with any shadow cast by some lens or lens hood. Probably better suited for full frame cameras but does offer some benefits on my a300.
