Great for quick day trip

I use this when I only need a couple of lenses and don't want to carry my big backpack.

Excellent for Hiking and Photographying

Great belt pack. Comfortable for carrying a medium sized camera (such as the Nikon D90) with 70-300mm lens with 2 side removeable zipper lens holders which can also hold up to moderate sized telephoto zoom lens. Hiked several miles in the mountains with fully loaded pack (3 lenses & camera body) with no discomfort. Couldn't figure out how to properly use the additional shoulder support strap.

Would buy again and meets expectations +

Great product and exceeded my expectations. It is very heavy when loaded with a canon 50d, the 70-200 lens, a prime lens and few accessories, but has a wide webed belt that supports the load. I also found the sholder strap that came with it to be an unexpected plus. It would be nice if it had a velcro tab to close the main storage area (for quicker access) in addition to the zipper.

Good Pack for Nature Hikes

I use almost daily to carry second D300 & Lens, an additional lens, various small camera equipment such as GPS, and mosquito spray while photographing in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Works great.

Great special purpose bag

A great bag to take just what you need to when you will be on the move. Protects gear very well. It would be nice if the waist belt were removable.

What I needed, but needs improvement

I was looking for something that I could take with me when I fly. I needed something that would hold a minimal amount of "gear", yet be light and stow away efficiently. This fit the bill. I had another similar case that had an easily accessible, small front zipped-padded pouch for semi-delicate items, I wish I had that on this system. It is a little cumbersome to open & close the top but not excessively so. Overall I am pleased. I found the system to be a little awkward to put on but not uncomfortably so.

Perfect Size & Great Fit

This bag works very well for my Canon 5D and 3 lenses 16-35,24-105 & 100-400. Body & any of my lenses will fit in main compartment. 2 side pockets are snug but work. Comfortable to wear considering all this gear. Only wish it had a quick release strap on main compartment. [...]

Larger than I expected, but functional

Lowepro has produced an adaptable, modular SlipLock holster style beltpack that can handle even large professional SLRs (like the Nikon® F5, or Canon 40D), with telephoto lens attached! Quite an achievement for a belt pack. The pack has two additional lens cases attached to the main camera case that can be detached to fit your needs or weight restrictions. It features two SlipLock loops with velcro compression straps that include two detachable SlipLock lens cases, and inner and outer mesh pockets for your accessories needed for shooting. While it's billed as a belt pack, it also comes with a rugged, padded shoulder strap to help with the weight. The pack has convenient zippered mesh pockets inside and out, and has ample padding protection for your camera and lenses. While this belt pack holds all your gear for an outdoor hiking or sightseeing excursion, it is a little cumbersome. By cumbersome I mean large. While being a fit, fairly large individual, I found the weight from the loaded pack not to be an issue, but for those of smaller frame, the accompanying shoulder strap could become a necessity. The size issue being stated, it does hold lots of gear in a convenient package. It can easily fit my Canon 40D with battery pack attached and my 70-200 zoom locked on in the main case. Add the two detachable lens cases which have ample room for my needs, and you can pretty much have the whole package on your hips. While this bag may not be for everyone, for the hiker/ backpacking photo enthusiast it pretty much hits the mark.

Finally a bag that works for me!

Finally, a reasonably sized bag that will hold my Canon 40D with 70-300mm lens attached. This camera/lens combination is 8 1/2 inches long and there is still 2 to 3 inches of space at the bottom of the bag. The two lens pouches are padded and removeable. One holds my Canon 430EX II flash but could hold an even larger flash such as a 580EX. The other is used for my kit lens which only fills it halfway. The lens pouches each include a padded spacer so two small or a small and medium lens, or a lens and some accessories could be kept one above the other in the lens pouches without contacting each other. The lens pouches are about 8 inches deep and about 3 inches in diameter, by my measure. Lowepro also makes lens pouches of various sizes (sold separately) that can be used on this bag. The main bag has two adjustable padded vertical spacers that allow me to adjust how high or low I want my camera to sit as well as being adjustable for different lens diameters. Even a camera with a fat 500 or 600mm mirror lens could fit. The top flap has a zippered pocket inside as well as a zippered pocket on the OUTSIDE top. The front has an open elastic mesh pocket, I would prefer a solid zippered pocket there. This bag works great as a fanny pack with the shoulder strap removed, or as a side hip bag, but the shoulder strap must be used in that case if there is much weight in the bag. While the bag is nearly perfect for me, it could use a few improvements. First; the shoulder strap is curved and the padding is a little thin, after a couple hours it gets uncomfortable against my collar bone. I now use a straight, well padded shoulder strap from a different bag and notice some improvement. Second, the lens pouch 'batwings' are not removeable and no thought was give on how to store the batwings and straps when the bag is used without the lens pouches. I have to jury rig them to keep them from flapping about. Overall, this is a well made bag that meets my needs better than the other bags I have tried.

I would buy this product again

I really like the camera bag. I only wish it had a mesh pocket on the back to carry maps, pamphlets and my camera user's guide on my outings.

Great hiking bag for DSLR

As with most of the Lowepro camera bags this is one that allows for carrying a DSLR, a couple of lens as well as the rest of the gear (short of carrying a tripod) needed for photographers who shoot outdoors whether hiking or just traveling on family trips. It has enough pockets and is comfortable to wear while hiking.

Works in unusual configurations

I loaded this bad on the heavier size with my huge Sigma 24-70 on Nikon D300 + an 70-200 and a full water bottle... also included plenty of spare batteries, cleaning supply, etc. I used it on a mid length hike (about 4 miles, >1000 ft height difference). Transport around the waist is possible but the real benefit is with the added strap that can go over shoulders. I run the strap around my neck and since it is just stabilizing and not carrying it worked wonders. I also tested the configuration of having the bag in the front and it worked well (in addition to a backpack on the back for longer hikes). It is just enough for a camera with a two lens outfit and standard additional equipment. You could strap more to it but you would get the bag out of balance. Small consideration: I had to have my big lens on the camera since it does not fit in standard lens bags that come with the product. Be aware how big your lens is and if it will fit.

Useful Belt Pack for Hiking

I bought this product for hiking and it is really comfortable. It easily holds a Nikon D300 and two additional lenses - 70-300 and 10-20. I also pruchased the LowePro Lenscase 4 for which holds the 70-200 Nikon F2.8 and this can be inserted on the belt in place of one of the existing and smaller lenscases.

too much stuff for my needs

I wanted to be able to strip it all down to one tube and the basic bag. All that extra stuff is weight and bulk and can't be detached. The bag is strong and heavy duty -perfect for a serious hiker that wants to be hands free of his "photo stuff".

As close as I could get for the price

used one holster to store flash, batt, and cleaning solution. This holster I leave at home. If I have no plans to use flash. This lightens the load. I dont like that you can not detach the waist belt. I use as camera bag. It holds my cannon sti very well and the holster holds my long lens. If I was a hiker this would be great. For the onsale price this works well for me. Nice shoulder strap, and hand strap.

I was not happy with this bag. I pack a canon 50d with battery pack, 28-155 len, 100-400 len and a 10-20 lens. the main bag will hold the camera and 28-155 lens. The side bags had no value what so ever (maybe for a h2o bottle) had to purchase to extra bags at an added cost of $60 buck and they are really, really tight. I'm lucky to get the 100-400 in and out.I wore the bag one day and [$] near put my hip out of socket. Next time i will use the neck strap to see if it will take off the pressure.I have other lowepro bags that i like a lot better.

Great but bigger than expected

I bought this bag for a trip to Ecuador. I was very excited because we would be hiking, biking, horseback riding, etc. I have a K20D with a battery grip and three lenses (the biggest being 300mm). The case could hold in all and provided safe protection however, with all that equipment it was quite heavy. In addition, when fully loaded it was so heavy that I had to wear it as a belt back very tightly, which made it hard to access. That being said I felt it was very secure on my back and made hiking with all that stuff a pleasure.

Best bag I own

I've used this bag for nearly seven years through a dozen countries, hiking through national parks, on numerous engagement shoots, and on every personal trip that I take, and it's still in fantastic shape with nary a tear or rip. A typical load for this bag is: -30D with battery grip (main compartment) -2.8/70-200 (on camera) -2.8/17-55is (tube1) -1.4/50 (tube1) -580EX (tube2) (or a 1 litre water bottle) -ST-E2 (front) -flash modifiers (bounce, collapsable snoot, etc.) (front) -2 spare batts for camera (front pocket) -4x CF case, spare strap, remote release (top pocket) The strap is *very* comfortable, and the bag very quickly converts to a very secure waistpack for when vertical surfaces need to be scaled. It's also nice to be able to swap out larger tubes, because then multiple flashes with attached radio slaves can be carried. Other LowePro bags I use are: D650 Stealth Reporter, Nova 3, Nova 5, Micro Trekker 100... and none touch the versatility/portability/convenience/comfort of the OffTrail2! My only desire for the bag is an additional accessory strap in the front, because on some shoots, I wind up jerry-rigging an accessory pack in place there to hold a half dozen Pocket Wizards and associated cords. Generally a brilliant product!

One hip holster

You will need to use the shoulder strap in addition to the waist band for heaver gear. I loaded the pack with a Canon 5D with battery pack, 70-200L F2.8, 100-400L, and a 24-70 F2.8. It was a tight fit but it worked. I needed to use the provided strap in addition to the waist belt to help support the weight. I placed the strap over the opposite shoulder and it worked quite well. Hopefully the pack will loosen up some so things won't be so tight.

This is a great camera bag

The minute I opened the box, I put my Nikon D40 in it and added the lenses, battery charger, extra batteries, memory sticks, and all else necessary to spend a day photographing. It is a great camera bag for me, an older woman with back and neck problems. Thanks.

Works good, last long time

This bag is great. If you take your camera with you when you want to take photos while you are travelling or think you may run into a photo opportunity then this bag is for you. This style bag provides for easy access to your camera and a comfortable way to carry a fare amount of weight. I carry my D70 and an 80-200 mm f2.8 with me and maybe a wide angle zoom. That's quite a bit of weight and the bag/strap feels good on my hip-and out of the way. I really like having the camera in a bag on my hip over on my shoulder. The bag also provides a little "workspace" if you need to rest something while you manipulate a lens or something. This bag will also teach you to carry only what you really will need. I was guilty of taking too much with me before which was a real pain. The detachable side pouches are great for quick adjustment of your load too. I think a backpack type bag would be a waist of time unless you need a way to carry all of your gear on a hike. Otherwise, can you imagine having to unsling a backpack everytime you wanted to access the bag?! The hip attachement for this bag is great because it allows you to easily shift the bag to a point where you can sit, stand, hike, or access the bag quickly and easily without removing it.Bo

Adapts for multiple uses

I wanted lens holders for my digital camera when switching from telephoto to close up on the same trip and this bag was it! I can take all of my equipment or pare down to carry only the camera. And, the waist clip lends itself to trekking through the wilderness hands free!

Lowpro Off trail 2

Took this unit on two trips. In Paris Metro functioned but the waist strap kept slipping. I also did not think about steps going up the Eifel Tower, had enough room to carry too much that day but was glad that I had the additional equipment. I also used this on a camping adventure to the smokies and the unit protected my equipment when I got caught in a small squall.

Solid Well Built Bag

This is a great camera bag. Well built and rides well on your hip. BUT, there is not enough room in the main compartment. I use a Canon 20D, 580 flash, 24-70 2.8 and 70-300 IS for most on location shoots. The 20D with the 24-70 lens is all that fits in the main compartment. There are inserts that are in the main compartment to support the camera that do have some room beside them, but not much. The two side lens pouches are fairly thin. The 580 flash fits in one and that is just fine. All in all, this is a fine bag.

Great Product for Pro Style Camera's

Great product for carrying camera ready to shoot. I use the 17-55 mm 2.8 lens attached or can use with 70-300mm as well. Case has room to fit the D2x or D200 with battery pack and lens. I leave lens hood off for getting camera in & out more easily. A great case for hikes and traveling.

Love this product. It frees hands till you need camera. Perfect for hikers, or traveling in general. Is easy to wear & use. Love the extra compartments, plus the detachable lense holders. Can easily store extra camera with attached lense for weddings, sports events, etc. Perfect gift for photographers on the go. I should have bought this product sooner.

"Perfect product for DSLR camera owners"

If you are owner of DSLR camera with multiple lenses [especially at least one of a medium telephoto size - Canon 70-200mm f/4 L] than this Belt pack will be perfect for you. You will feel that all your equipment is ergonomically well placed, protected and giving you still a reasonable freedom of movement [not dangling & flying around you like individual packed lens cases].
