Shopper : Can this be used as a shoot through umbrella?QUINN K : Yes. I primarily use it as a shoot through umbrella. Very soft lighting. I use speedlights with it.DAVID Y : yesJOHN W : Yes, I only use mine as a shoot through and it seems to perform well.JAMES L : Yes, that's how I use mine.
The one I received is only ten ribs, if I recall correctly, but it works wonderfully for dispersing light over a large area. I was shooting kids on Santa's lap, and only had a single off-camera strobe, which I shot through the umbrella. I was very happy with the lighting (including shots with Santa, Mom, Dad, and three kids - a fairly large area).STEPHEN M : Yes I have a monolight shooting straight through. The only problem I've run into is since the umbrella is so big, the bottom edge rubs against the light stand. Maybe some kind of extender for the light would help but its pretty much parallel to the floor onlyDale S : Yes it can with either a speed light or mono strobe.CHRISTOPHER G : Yes, no problem using this as a shoot thru umbrella. That is the primary way I use it.JONATHAN T : Translucent = yesCLIFFORD M : Most definitely. The poor man's soft box and I love it. I only use it as a shoot through umbrella. Big enough to pass as window light, small enough to use as a beauty light. A tough soft light at a great price.
BRUNO S : What is the diameter of the mounting rod? Also the description says "Picture not updated" is there a photo of a similar 16 rib umbrella?CONNIE G : My girlfriend purchased a couple of these for me (I'm responding to this question sent to her.)
The rod diameter is .310" and it's approximately 36.625" to the top of the umbrella (37.5" to the very tip.) It has 10 ribs rather than 16 (I have no complaint with that.) It's 52" in diameter.
I haven't used them yet, but I opened one for these measurements and it appears to be of nice quality.
SteveJUAN FCO. C : The rod is slightly width than standard umbrellas because of the size and weight of such big umbrella, but fits perfect in all my monolights (different brands) and strong enough for the weight. About the photo, I don´tknow. But the ribs are standard as all umbrellas. The diameter of the umbrella is 55".
I hope this information could be useful to you. Buy them. You won´t be dissapointed.GERARD V : Unfortunately I don't have the umbrella anymore to measure it (I found I wasn't using the 60" shoot through size much), but as it mounted onto standard umbrella mounts, I assume the diameter of the mounting rod is 8mm (not 7mm, like Elinchrom umbrellas).LEROY W : The shaft diameter is 8mm and it looks like a standard umbrella only largerSCOTT E : Hi Bruno,
The diameter of the rod is 5/16th of an inch and it has a solid core so you don't have to worry about crushing in when tightening down on it.
Sorry, but I can't help you with the picture problem.
