Questions & Answers

Luis G : Will this set work on a Nikon D60?Luis G : OK Thanks for the replies and help CheersGARY N : The extension tubes work great in my Nikon D300. The tube set is a whole lot less expensive than a fixed macro lens plus you get effectively three plus lenses as you can stack the tubes. It's a terrific deal and EASY to use.ROBERT S : I am not familiar with the Nikon D60 but they have the standard Nikon mount that fit my D90 very nicely.BRAD L : Yes
SILVIA C : What's the difference between the Pro Optic Auto Extension Tube Sets: AF and AF SLR? I have a D7000.BINGO W : I dunno. I have a D700 and it works fine for me. The one thing about these is that they're almost too powerful. You have to hold your camera and the item you're photographing VERY still. But that's true about all macro photography. It's not for the point-and-shoot shots.JOHN F : I do not know the difference between the AF and the AF SLR. I have a D300 and use the set for Nikon AF. The automatic focus works best for me with the 20 mm extension and my AF-S Nikkor 18-105 f3.5-5.6 G. I usually maually focus first and then let the auto focus take over to hold the focus.RICARDO M : Hi Sam, I bought the Pro Optic Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon AF about an year ago for my D7000. They work very well, and the pictures are great. Using a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8D lens, you can fill the frame with less than an inch of subject. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Robert O : Is there any kind of instruction manual or diagram that shows exactly how this connects to the camera body/lens? I can't see how this actually works, and I'm not one to experiment and mess anything up. I have a NIKON D-3100 and I am an amateur at all of this.ROBERT R : It connects to the camera just like any other lens, and your lens will connect to it as if it were connected to the camera. It works fine with my d3100.JOHN F : There is no instuction manual. The three extensions work the same as putting a lens on your D-3100. It is a snug fit but I like that. You can use 1, 2 or all 3 extensions depending on what you are doing. Any of them work best in high light conditions or with some sort of flash. The automatic focus mechanism will take much longer if the lighting is poor. I compensate for this by manually focusing first and then allowing the auto focus to kick in. This seems to work fine with my Nikon D-300. Good luck.BINGO W : sure, it's as simple as a lens. the dots line up, you insert and twist and click. The other end looks just like a dock for your lens, so you line up the dots, insert and twist and click. Literally couldn't be easier. If you can put on a lens, you can use these. Also, they double and triple up to increase the magnification. However, I've found that if you magnify it too much, you can't hold it still enough to get a shot. But with a 50mm lens, and any of the three you can get a very sharp, very close image. Good luck! If you need anything else answered, let me know!Jeanine C : I am new to using extension tubes also, but I bought them because they're cheaper than buying a macro. Check out That Nikon Guy (Matt Granger) on YouTube or check the sessions on Adorama tv. There are no directions in the box. Hope this helps because they can explain it better than I.RONALD N : I don't recall seeing any instructions but when I opened the package it all looked obvious to me. The extension tube mounts to the camera exactly like a lens. Each of the three extensions mount on each other in the same way. They come mounted together in the package and to use only one or two you have to dismount the other one just like you would hsve to dismount a lens from the camera. then you mount the lens on the extension tube. With a Nikon lens all normal lens functions are automatically passed on between lens and camera by the extension tubes.HAROLD S : They go on and off like a lens. Then you can attach a lens to it the same way you attach a lens to the camera. If you are not familiar enough to try this you should get someone to physically show you, if that is not practical, your user manual for the camera should show about changing lenses. Once you see how its done it will be easy. GeneFELIX V : The smaller side of the extention tube goes toward the Camera.DAVID P : I'll try to explain. First remove the existing lens from the camera body. With the camera lens pointed away from you, push the lens release button and turn the lens to the left until the dot on the lens aligns with the dot on the camera body and the lens pulls off. Now you can add an extender tube just as you would a lens. Align the triangle symbol (with point of triangle towards camera) with the dot on the camera body and with the lens side pointed away from you, turn the tube to the right until it clicks. Now if you add another tube or lens, use the square symbol on the attached tube as you would the dot on the camera body. To remove a lens or tube you would now use the metal tab like it was the lens release button. Hope this helps.GARETT M : I could never get my Nikor 50mm f/1.4 G or Nikor 14-24mm f/2.8 to focus with these things :/ especially with the longer ones. Although, I may have been trying to focus too close/far It's supposed to space the lens from the body a bit to get a more telephoto effect from your lens. Putting a 50mm at 60-90mm, depending on which you use.RICARDO M : Hi Robert, Each tube has one side that looks like the camera side of the mount, and one side that looks like the lens side. You put one of these on the camera as if it were a lens, and then either the lens or another tube on top of that one. It's really very easy. They have a tab that you press down to take the lens (or another tube) off, just like the camera's lens-release button. Hope that helps!ROBERT S : They mount just like a lens and yes there is a book with mine.

It does the job

It does the job. They work as advertised, even with all 3 tube stacked. I had no issues with the fit on my Nikon D90. As one person said, they do feel kind of cheap, but at this price you can't be too upset. Adorama as always was great to deal with, and I even got my package delivered sooner than expected.

Works Great!

Setting the camera on a tripod make work great. I do have problem focusing when use all three on auto focus, switch to manual and works fine. I hear alot of negative about this, probably don/t understand this equipment.

Extension tube set

The tubes work as advertised, but the fit is so tight that more exsertion is needed than when mounting a Nikon lense. Thus far I feel that if I were to use these on a frequent basis they could be problematic, but time will tell. For the cost they work just fine.

OK for the price

I was uncomfortable with the force required to fully lock the tubes to the camera body the first time (seems to be getting less with more use). Some of the tubes needed their contacts cleaned before the lens would work with them.

Product works great

This product works very well with my Nikon D7000. There are clear markings on the outside of each extension tube to line them up, and each fits snugly into place. I don't worry about dangling a telephoto off the end - the construction is very solid. I use it mainly with my Nikon 105mm F/2.8G lens. It will allow you to autofocus, provided you can manually focus the subject into the ballpark. Without the tubes, I can get a nice closeup of a bee. With just one tube on, I was able to see into the bee's eye! DOF is extremely shallow and any wind is greatly exaggerated at this magnification, so make sure you use a tripod. I have also used it as a macro converter for my 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF zoom, and it works fine. If you don't know much about extension tubes, be aware of one thing - your telephoto will no longer be a telephoto with the tubes attached. You will have to stand close to any subject, or you will not be able to focus the camera at all, even manually. I read a lot about extension tubes, and still did not understand this until I was able to try them. (Not a criticism of this product, that is just how extension tubes work apparently.) A great product at a great price. I definitely recommend this product to enhance any macro lens, and for converting telephotos to macro.

Excellent for macro photography

I am an avid outdoor photographer. Several years ago I lost my extension rings - critical for really close macro work. I now have replaced my rings and can return to some some of the macro work I love to do.

Easy to use with great results

Purchased these for micro photography. I like them because of their lower price, they are pretty well made, and allow the electronics of my Nikon to function. The only issue I have had is with Auto-Focus. If I set the camera to auto-area focus it works fine. If it is set to pin-point focus, it will only work if the shot is already at or near perfectly focused. I use a Nikon D300s, so can not speak to this functionality on other models or brands.

Inexpensive alternative

Auto focuses and auto exposes just fine with my Nikon D90 and D70s with the 18-55 mm or 28-80 mm Nikor. I would not recommend using it with a real heavy or long lens.

Love this product

I love this product and use it regularly. I use it most with my 70-300 telephoto lens and it gets very close. The only bad thing is that when I use both products together it gets a bit heavy, but would highly recommend this product.

balance of cost and performance

Only 2 out of 3 of these tubes worked for me. The fit on the body is extremely tight and takes a lot of effort to get the tube on. On the other end, the connection to the lens is extremely loose and sloppy. However, the pictures are fine. If I had realized that there was only a 14 day return policy, I would have checked each tube more quickly. Otherwise, I would have returned these tubes and spent a little more money on better quality.

Lots of fun

Some reviewers complained about these being tight but mine are not. These are a lot of fun and can be used with any lens so you are not stuck using them with only a macro lens. Auto focus mechanism sounds rough when it operates but you really can use auto focus in macro work anyway so it's really not an issue.

I would buy this product again

I have used other extension tubes and these are the best. I am so pleased with the construction of them and how easy they are to use. I am so excited to have them added to my camera equipment and for use in my work.

Patience = Good Photos

Makes the lense a bit longer when using all three but nothing beets saving about $800 over the Nikon 105mm macro lense. Good picture quality but auto focus doesn't work on my D90, it keeps searching but when doing macro manual focus is the way to go.

not bad for the price

This fairly priced extension tube set does exactly what it is intended to do: allow you to take incredible close-ups. The three tubes provide lots of options for magnification. The downside is that it does not securely fit onto my camera; there's no positive "click" when it is engaged on the camera body. Other than that, and the fact that I need to use manual focus and manual light metering (Nikon D40), it does a nice job for macro shots.

Makes the lense a bit longer when using all three but nothing beets saving about $800 over the Nikon 105mm macro lense. Good picture quality but auto focus doesn't work on my D90, it keeps searching but when doing macro manual focus is the way to go.

Contains three tubes of different length (31mm, 21mm & 13mm) which can be combined in seven ways to obtain various magnification. Perfect coupling with TTL metering and AE mechanisms. Maintains full auto exposure with Nikon AF Cameras, however, Nikon D information is not transmitted because the lens is focusing closer than its program focus. manual focus only with Nikon AFS (silent wave)
