Questions & Answers

Deborah W : How many pages of say 60 weight paper can this cut in a swipe?DEBRA A : cut 8 sheets of 67 lb. weight paper and it worked very well. It helps if you have a new sharp blade when you cut thicker paper or a number of pages at one time. I prefer cutting less sheets so I don't have to worry about the pages slipping.JOHN W : We use one one, I would say you can do two but for the cleanest cut I would use a single sheet.JOHN H : I generally use it to cut copy paper which is 10# paper. I try not to cut more than 5 or 6 sheets at a time so that they do not skew on me.LOUIS B : We only cut 1 page at a time. But I`m sure a new blade could cut several at a time.LINDA C : I have used this cutter for years, and haven't found better. For card stock two sheets is about the max for the best cuts. Also, the real key is to have nice, fresh blades, but this is possible only with this cutter because it uses standard single edge blades that I get in bulk, 100 to a box (you get two runs from each blade by flipping the blade in the holder when one corner dulls). Another key is in a very firm hold on the page as you pull the blade through the paper. This cutter is pretty precise keeping things straight, unlike the guillotine cutters, and rotary cutter blades aren't sharp enough for my taste, and they're expensive, too. Always practice with your particular paper before starting the real cuts. This is the best tool for trimming photos, too. One drawback is the small "deck" but for most jobs with standard 8 1/2 x 11 it really is a workhorse, and it is easily portable due to size and plastic construction. The BEST thing though is that it is virtually impossible to hurt lose body parts using it. Get two! Great as gifts, too!DOUGLAS T : This is a great and very economical trimmer however it doesn't have great "heft". I would limit trimming multiple sheets of paper to several sheets at a time. I agree, as one reviewer wrote, that the biggest downside of this trimmer is that it is somewhat difficult to visualize the location of your cut - especially if you are in a darkroom. That said, these trimmers are incredibly durable (except for the cheap measuring scale they glue on them). I have several of these in my student darkrooms and they have lasted over 25 years through some pretty brutal handling. For $20 I consider them a great value but don't count on them for precise work.
Shopper : What is the best way to make cuts?GIASH H : falcon/marshall personal size paper cutter is good.JAMES V : Make cuts from top to bottom, like drawing a knife blade to make the cut. This allows the razor blade cutter to cut at the proper angle. The resulting cut will be smoother than on many other rotary cutters and dull blades are easy and inexpensive to replace.BARBARA W : You place the paper you want to cut under the guide, then lock the end in place, then while holding the paper with one hand, push down on the blade holder with the other and pull it toward you. The key is to make sure the loose end of the guide is locked in place. I usually ask a family member to hold it while I'm making the cuts.
Shopper : How do you change the blade?THOMAS K : In order to change the blade, pull the sliding carrier cartridge up and it will expose the blade. Disengage the safety latch on the single edged razor blade and replace with a fresh blade. Be sure the blade is well seated and then re-engage the safety latch. Then you are ready to go. If you have used one edge of the blade for cutting, you can rotate the blade so the unused edge (tip) is in the cutting position. This extends the use of the blade. Good luck!KATHY O : The blade is very easy to change: 1. Flip up the top of the square boxed-shaped blade holder 2. Pull back the latch that locks the blade in place 3. Pull out the old blade & slip in the new one. 4. Close that latch (clicks in place) 5. Push down/close the blade holder lid & that also clicks into place. (I think it came with clearcut directions with illustrations.) I bought this same paper cutter back in 1980 & it is still going strong. My daughter took it with her when she moved out and I was so happy to find it still existed. It's very durable & since you change the blade it's always sharp. It uses the basic single edge blades you get at any hardware or discount store in a little box of 5. Whoever designed this did an excellent job. I use mine to trim photos & make cards. I cannot say enough about this paper cutter. I love it.RONALD W : Attached to the Paper Cutter Sliding Rail is a square box (that slides along the rail). Located on one end of this box is a lip that you lift with your finger. Inside the box is a small (white) latch, which you pull back on, slide your razor blade (cutting edge facing away from the white latch) down into the holding slot, then close the white latch, close the lid to the box, and you are ready to go. Respectfully yours, Ronald WalkerIRWIN L : To change the blade: lift up the section you press down on to engage the blade for cutting, this will expose the blade (be careful don't cut yourself), now push the white tab, that is hold the blade in place, back; grab the blade by the spline (thicker non-cutting side) and pull straight out (being careful to not cut yourself). Drop in a new blade or turn the current one around (if you've only used one side so far). Re-lock white tab, re-seat cutting area platform and you're good to go. This paper cutter is great, simple and efficient.

Enjoy working with this cutter and will most likely continue to purchase replacements.

I have purchased this product about 4 times and use it for card making. I make well over 1,000 cards a year for our church just as ?happy mail?. I?m very happy with cutting both card stock and pattern paper. I just wish it had a swing out type of arm to measure for cutting both horizontal and vertical. I do a make shift vertical measure by duct taping in a metal ruler and it works pretty well for that task. The only other thing I struggle with is replacing the blade. Sometimes it?s a little struggle, but the blades are cheap enough to make up for the occasional need for a bandaid?lol. I know I will purchase it again.

Paper Cutter

This is by far the BEST straight blade paper cutter that we have ever purchased. We have tried to so many others, but none compare to this one. 5 STARS

This is a wonderful paper cutter

This is a wonderful paper cutter. I owned the same brand for at least 20 years. My original still works but I decided it was time to get a new one since mine had a little wear along the cutting seam. I used it for many projects and searched diligently for the same Falcon brand. I was thrilled when I found it on Adorama after I could not find it in any Art & Crafts store in my area. I am so fond of this paper cutter that I bought each of my adult daughters one as well. I will definitely use Adorama for future purchases as they are fast and efficient. My products were packaged with the utmost of care and delivered early within the estimated delivery time.

Good price, works well

The cutter works well and I am pleased with the price. I am a bit disappointed there are no side gauges for measurements, the ruler only goes the direction of the blade which is not the cutting edge (so why is it there at all). Otherwise it works great.

Great cutter

I have been using this model of paper cutter for over 10 years and it is byfar the best one out there. Uses standard single edge razor blades that are cheap, unlike other cutters that require special cutting blades

Great product.

I use this cutter for my bookmaking and cutting paper for other uses. This is the second cutter I have had...the first one lasted 10 years. I haven't found a cutter that works as well and it is easy to replace blade. Blades are easy to find at hardware store. Buy one...you will love it!

Very useful product

Good for getting clean, straight cuts. Blade is easy to replace. I've given them as gifts, and recipients also found it a useful tool for multiple applications.

Absolutely horrid product (i've had 3!)

I used this product to trim my illustrations down in size off large prints of paper. However, over time the plastic warps and it no longer cuts properly. The plastic is not stiff enough and the whole cutter won't actually sit flat on a table (it bows). After awhile using the cutter it starts making horrid squeeling sounds (rubbing plastic on plastic). Absolutley the worst cutter I have ever used in my life, but since I did buy 3 of them, I found it had a cheap usefullness for awhile.

Cheap and easy blade changes

This is a well constructed, easy to use paper trimmer that uses single edge razor blades. I was attracted by the easily found and inexpensive replacement blades, but was surprised at how well this trimmer performs. It is lightweight and easy to take on a trip.

My most convenient paper cutter

When I go on vacation my photo equipment includes a laptop computer, printer, and paper trimmer. The Falcon/Marshall will accompany me on my next trip. I will be gone several months and take many photos. This trimmer is the best to take on a trip. It is amall enought to pack conveniently, does a great job of trimming photos, and replacement blades are ordinary single edge razor blades, available anywhere. If you can't find blades in the shaving section of a store, look in the tool section. Many scrapers use the same blades. And they are really inexpensive.

Great for the money

This is a nice trimmer. I read several favorable reviews here, and decided to try one. Over all it works well, with the advantage of easy to get single edge razor blades. It was a bit tricky at first to get the blade in, but after that it was OK. It is however fairly light weight plastic, and so therefore doesn't stay put while you're working. The built in rubber feet don't do much to help that. I guess I'm just used to the big metal guillotine style ones. But for the money it's a good product.

The best for your money!

Have used one for 15+ years. This is the BEST cutter of it's type in the world. You can't beat the price of the common replacement razor blades. I would advise against buying any other brand, especially those with round, rolling blades. They don't cut straight (they wobble) and you have to buy their special replacement blades.

replacable blade - affordable price

I had the same product that gave many years of service; this replaces it which is testmony to my liking the product. Other brands use expensive replacement cutters.

Works well on paper, not mat board

I wanted to use it to mount photos. Found it would cut paper but not foam boards completely. Easier to just order the prints the size I want with "border" on the print to avoid cutting. Only cuts 14". Can't get a longer straight cut easily.

Best and easiest paper cutter!

I used this paper cutter for over ten years (almost daily) and finally wore it out - so I ordered two more - that should last me the next 20 years! Very easy to change the blades, very easy to cut exact pictures and pages with scrapbooking and framing art. I recommend this product to everyone.

Excellent Paper Cutter

Love the device. Have onwed three over the last 15 years. It is made of plastic and therefore NOT indistrucable. It lasts about 4 to 5 years with medium to heavy use. It will cut uo to about 5 sheets of 20lb stock with good accuracy but is must more accurate when used with a single sheet - even heavy stock and glossy photo paper.

Handles prints up to 14". Uses standard replaceable single edge razor blades for a sharp, clean paper trim. The blade is completely enclosed for safety, but allows you to see exactly what and where you are cutting. Includes 5 blades.
