I've had my camera for probably 12 years now and always wanted to upgrade the lens but just couldn't afford it. My teenage son is getting into photography and wanted a larger lens as well. He worked and saved up his money and bought this pre-owned lens. We both took a chance at it not knowing if it was going to be damaged or scratched. We just received it the other day and it is amazing. There is not a blemish on this lens, it is brand new for all that we know. If you are hesitant to buy a pre-owned item or accessory from this company, don't be!!

Overall this is a solid lens. This was my first tele and it overall is fantastic. It is, however, a bit heavy and the AF tends to hunt frequently and is a bit slow. It is fairly short which is convenient and the focal length range is great compared to the 70-300 options. Overall a great first tele lens!

Good general purpose lens especially for the price. Be forewarned though the zoom and focus functions WILL NOT work below 32 degrees! I don't know why maybe its the lubricants they use or something, but if the lens is exposed to sub freezing temperatures for very long at all the zoom and focus rings will bind and jam. Above freezing it works fine and I've never had a problem.

Using this lens with my D7200, I am able to capture sharp pictures in almost any lighting conditions. If you like portraits with bokeh, this lens is superb. If you like to capture fast moving subjects (e.g. sports activities or fast moving targets like hummingbirds), this lens is also outstanding. The images shown were taken during a family vacation. I really love this lens. It's truly a jack-of-all trade.

This lens is affordable because it is not pro glass, but for the entusiast/weekend shooter it will fill in nicely with Nikon's 18-55mm VR kit lens. A bit soft at the edges at 300mm, but I would expect it to be at its price range. Still, an all around nice piece of glass from Nikon.

I have taken some excellent pictures of birds and other wildlife with this lens. It’s better at F7.1 than wider, and I have used the focus fine tune feature to advantage on both my D7100 and D500. With those minor accommodations, sharpness and contrast are outstanding. Slower and less reach than my 200-500, but smaller, lighter, less expensive and less likely to be noticed by wildlife. Impressive macro capability and very creamy bokeh. I think this is a very under-appreciated lens in the Nikon DX lineup.

I bought this lens for my D7200. It is compact and light, but fairly solidly built with a metal lens mount. The optics seem to be excellent based on about 100 shots that I have taken, although I haven't really done a detailed evaluation of sharpness. As others have said, the autofocus is fairly slow, and to manually override autofocus you have to flip the switch on the side of the lens. These are not deal killers for landscapes and slow moving subjects, but for fast moving wildlife and sports there are better telephotos. But this is a pretty solid choice for a modestly priced walk-around DX tele.

Excellent lens for outdoor and nature photography...I have recently used my lens for Hummingbirds and Butterflies. The photographs are SUPER. I would highly recommend this lens to my friends. This is great value and it is also very lightweight and compact for hiking days.

The Nikon 55-300 DX zoom lens has very impressive VR and produces sharp hand-held images at all focal lengths, even when the aperture is wide open.

The Nikon 55-300 is very light and compact. The VR feature is a big help in allowing me to use slower shutter speeds in reduced light. The auto focus is a bit slow on cloudy days forcing me to use the slightly complicated manual focus at times.

I've actually been saving up for a long time for a second lens for my D3300, and wanted to get one that can do all the stuff my regular lens can't. Specifically, I wanted to be able to capture birds and distant landscapes, but also get close up on people. This lens is great for all that stuff.

My only complaint is that the focus is slow and to get a clear picture, I sometimes have to switch from Autofocus to Manaul to maintain a sharp picture. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS LENSE.

Using this lens with an D3300 for wildlife photography and having difficulty getting sharp bird photos, especially at 300mm. I understand from reviews that the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E VR AF-P lens focuses quicker for this type of work. Would this lens focus faster on a body with more auto focus points such as D7500?

Hello there, I am a young nature photographer who has used this lens for an entire year. It has been quite a good lens, I love how sharp the focus can get and it has captured some tricky birds in flight. The vibration reduction really, really helps get the clarity of the photographs, and it focuses quite well. There is one downside only: The focus is just a little bit slow. I have missed some really good shots just because of a split second focus lag, and it is disappointing, but throughout this year, I am still satisfied with this lens. I highly recommend it to DSLR beginners who are wildlife photographers and like to shoot in sports mode, and who are on a budget, because this lens is really good for a low price. Even though this zoom lens can reach 300mm, I have stumbled through moments where my subject (say, a bird) is too far and I must slowly get closer in order to get a good shot before it flies away. And that is a good thing, because it challenges me and I learn how to get closer to birds without scaring them. This lens with a Nikon D3300 is a good combination.

At 399.99 this is considered a "cheap" I use this for bird photography and while a longer lens (hello 200-500mm) would be more productive. I get decent BIF and perch shots. Well worth the price of admission

which I took with my friend's 55-300mm, Based on the great results, I have purchased this lens for my own. Arrived today, weekend will be my shooting weekend to try this lens. I just browsed through the reviews, and am amazed, that some of the pics are almost macros. I am buying this for its telescopic feature, for Safaris, outdoors, nature shots, birds, sports.I am hoping in good portraits pics.

I have purchased refurbished equipment from Nikon and Adorama before and have never been disappointed. Some reviewers complained of the lens "binding" mid way through it's movement when changing focal lengths. I will say that I can feel my lens catch ever so slightly around 135-200mm, but this in no way affects the function of the lens. I have encountered this before with other brands of optics and believe it to be a normal phenomenon with this level of equipment. If this were a $50K Zeiss cinema lens I would say that "binding" is not acceptable but let's be real this is at full retail a ($) lens and refurbished it's just over ($). I am extremely pleased with this lens and over the moon at the price I was able to get it for. As the other reviewers have said before, if you were to put this refurbished lens next to a brand new one they would be indistinguishable. The only telling sign this is not factory new is the box it comes in. Highly recommend the lens and Adorama.

Since I carry a camera with me while birding or butterflying, I really love the light weight of this lens. It is easy to use and has quick focusing so that I don't have to struggle with manual focus anymore. What a relief! My old eyes don't focus as well as the lens.

I needed the additional range to 300mm. I had been using a 55-200mm. Happy with it.

The lens design is great. This is a reverbish that isn't done well! It drags at a mid point of the focus range enough to throw the AF off. I don't know what to do with it other than be very careful buying refurbished again!!

This is not the first time I have ordered refurbished products from Adorama. This lens is excellent. I love that it stays retracted when not in use. It does not have a button to lock it like the 18-55 lens does but this lens stays in place anyway. Adorama is the best place to purchase photography equipment.I have been doing business with them since about 2008.

This lens is refurbished, but arrives looking and working like a brand new lens. Also bought a refurbished Nikon D5200 from Adorama. Camera arrived in perfect condition and on time. Wasn't sure about buying refurbished gear, but now I believe in the value and quality they represent. Thank you Adorama.

Great All in One Lens
By 35mmToDSLR N.
This lens can do it all. I used to carry and swap the 18-55mm lens with this one. The lens is very light by the way. After a while I noticed that most of my shots were at least 6 to 10 feet away. Perfect for the low end of the 55-300mm range of this lens. Plus when I take it to sporting events the 300mm allows me to stay in the bleachers. Alot of our friends have the 200mm lens and have to get alot closer for the same shots. The image stabilizer allows for crisp action photos at any distance.
A gem indeed
By Panujit
Being a hobbyist, I find the lens excellent. Autofocus is good (with my D7000), VR works fine, excellent bokeh and light weight. Colour representation & contrast is nice. Macro capability is awesome at 0.28X, and I am using very cheap (1$) macro add-on filter with it and got some acceptable result. Con is it is not a low light lens, doesn't work with FX bodies. I personally never used its heavier sister the 70-300 VR so cannot compare the two.
