Original equipment - flawed design by Nikon, but there is no better option. I broke the original one by quickly dropping into a deep kneel with the lens (attached to a body) hanging from my shoulder. Protected the lens from damage. Lost the replacement in a crowd with the 80-200 (with body) slung on one shoulder and a 200-400 (on a body) on the other. The quick-thread-and-Click design is not very secure, so, on the replacement, I started using two small pieces of gaff tape to secure the hood to the lens.

After foolishly purchasing an inexpensive third party lens hood online - which looked cheap, didn't fit snugly, and cracked the first time I used it - I bought this Nikon lens hood from Adorama. It fits properly, has a finish that matches my lens, and feels quite durable. As they say - you get what you pay for.

HN-28 is for Nikon AF Zoom?Nikkor 80?200mm f/2.8D ED earlier version, the HB-7 can be used on later versions. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/80-200mm-history.htm

I've broken two of these in the past five years on my Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 and in both instances the lens has survived without any damage. The plastic is thick but it flexes just enough to absorb impact without passing it on to the lens. It also holds up well when I duct tape plastic waterproofing to my lens and camera - the tape residue always washes off, leaving no marks. I give it four stars only because I think the price is a few dollars too high.

Ok, I looked at all the others out there. There were some good reviews and, yes, the items were less expensive. I decided to take the plunge and it was the correct decision. This hood fits perfectly. It stores on the lens while reversed and fits in the bag, no issues. I am suprised that we have to purchase this because, I believe, it comes as part of the package with other lenses. Still, I would buy again.

Robust construction and perfect fit on the lens, offering a very good protection against sun and shocks. I always leave it mounted -> allows to never put the cap on the lens -> no time wasted removing the lens cap

Had to purchase this as the 3rd party hood did not fit. The hood should have come with the lens. The Nikon brand fits perfect.

Just what I needed for a quality shade and it can be mounted backwards on the lens for travel and storage.

The 80-200mm f/2.8 Nikon is an excellent lens that should include a hood as standard equipment. It is somewhat irritating that one has buy one in the after market. While it appears to perform adequately, there always is the suspicion that this hood is slightly too short... this compared with what is being offered with newer equipment.

I use this lens hood on my 80-200mm. It's well built and durable. This hood is almost always on my lens.

I bought the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 ED D-AF Lens when my daughter started dance and didn't realize at the time of purchase that I wouldn't be able to find the lens hood locally. Well I had another lens in my cart and decided it was time to get the lens hood and added that to my purchase as well. It's an inexpensive item, but yet one that will be on my lens everytime I use it. I am thrilled to have this lens hood just in time for major dance competition photo opportunities!

This is a great product. Im glad I bought it for my Nikon AF-D 80-200. Its great to cover your lens from direct sunlight. Also great as a lens protector, although chances are that the hood is gonna break before the lens. My lens is a solid piece of rock.

I don't know why Nikon doesn't sell this with the lens. It is a must have for the lens. It is nice that it mounts backwards for storage.

Shouldn't be a separate purchase - should come included with the lens. That being said, it does exactly what it is supposed to do .. oh .. and makes the lens seem about three feet longer!

This hood will help keep stray light from entering lens and causing flares, ghosts and low contrast when shooting toward the sun. Brushed metal appearance matches lens barrel and provides an extra layer of physical protection for your lens.

It's a hood. It prevents stray light. It protects the lens from bumps. It's a piece of plastic. What else can be said? Ah, while lightweight, it's bulky. So it has to be on the lens, or have a big pouch available in your backpack/bag to store it when not in use. A bit cumbersome.

If you own the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 ED AF-D lens or are buying one then you will have to purchase this hood for it.(Nikon doesn't include it with the lens) This is a high quality lens hood that will not only shield the lens from stray light but will also protect it from getting damaged. Don't even look at second party hoods, this is the one.

Good for reducing lens flare, and doubles as a "Bump Shield".

As always Nikon has done their homework. Very easy to use and mounts backwards to save space when not using lense.

If you own the 80-200 f/2.8 lens this lens hood is a MUST. It's hard to believe that Nikon doesn't package this with the lens.....I find this lens hood much more important than the lens case that Nikon provides.
