KAREN B : Is the HB 63 supposed to be secure?JAY W. S : Yes, the HB 63 lens hood is supposed to be secure, but it, and the lens cap, are both poorly designed. You have to take extra precaution to make certain that they are secure when you put them in place. It is also disappointing that the lens, as it turns out, is "grey market," which means that Nikon will not repair it if it is damaged. I found that out after I fell with the camera and damaged the lens. After many years of doing business with Adorama, I was surprised that the company had not forewarned me about the implications of "grey market" products. I am also disappointed with the lens because, unlike any other Nikon lens I have used in 40 years of using Nikon products, this one has a lot of darkness in the image corners when the lens is at its wider focal lengths. I'll think a lot before I buy any other Nikon cameras or lenses. Jay W. SharpJOYCE B : When you rotate the lens hood it will lock in place.MICHAEL H : Depends on what you mean by secure. The Nikon plastic hoods are of two types. The more secure have a push button lock that must be pressed to remove th hood. This hood is the second type that clicks on as described previously. It is reasonably secure but does not have a positive lock.STANLEY Y : It shouldn't be falling off...STEVE S : Karen: What exactly do you mean by secure? In point of fact, when installed for carry (in reverse) on the lens body, it is very secure. The same holds true when installed for use. By design, the lens hood actually "clicks" into place in either condition. After literally thousands of removals and installations, it still locks securely to the lens body. Hope this answers your question.JOHN D : Yes, (directions in this answer refer to looking down on the lens with the lens pointed away from you.) Align the dot with the right pointing leg on the hood, with the dot on the lens. Look at the picture on Adorama and you will see the dot/leg on lens hood. Twist the lens hood to the left until the dot on the lens is aligned with a dash and larger dot on lens hood. There will be a slight resistance and it will snap and lock. Hope that helps

Like a glove

I was very pleased with the fit. I had read some of the other reviews and was concerned it would not fit as well as the one that came with the lens. A lot of worry for nothing. Fit as well as the original, after all it is OEM.

It's a Lens Hood

Sturdy and loose

Standard bayonet mount Nikon tulip hood, but fits so loosely on 24-85 3.5:4.5 VR zoom that it rotates by itself, falls off, and slips over enough to shadow exposures. Not recommended. I would buy a 3rd party that fits tight enough to stay put. (Made in China, as is the lens.)
