Questions & Answers

DAVID E : I use a Nikon D7000. My flashes are: SB900, SB80, are they both compatible with the Strato II?ANDREW M : I have a D7100 and an SB700. I've used the Phottix Strato II etc. often. Here is the odd thing. When my Bower SFD926N is switched to TTL (not slave), the trigger works fine. When my SB700 is on TTL, it won't work. The SB700 has to be on Manual. Frankly, as much as I've used the Phottix, I also often use Commander, with both the SB700 off camera and the Bower off camera set on slave.DAVID H : I had trouble using my SB700 and SB800's with the Receiver. They just didn't work consistently. I use Vivitar 285s with the Receivers and they work perfectly. The SB700 works great with the transmitter. Hope this helps.DAVID K : The Strato triggers are for manual use, not TTL. As such, the Nikon triggers are compatible with the Nikon D7000 but you can use any brand of flash on top of the receivers. I have 4 Strato II Multi 5 in 1 units and love them. Exceptional radio range and they are a great value compared to Pocket Wizards.RICHARD M : Dave my trigger set fires my sb600 flashes with no problems. They have been very dependable and I am satisfied with my purchase. Just remember that these triggers just fire the flash and all flash settings have to made manually at each flash.KENNETH M : My advice would be to contact Phottix directly. They will know what they designed the electronic protocol for. I use your same camera and SB900 but not your SB80. I can say yes to 2/3 of your question.ROBIN B : I'm not sure about the sb80...I use a sb910.guide and sb800..I have also used a sb700..All worked fine..CAROLINA R : I'm not sure about the sb80 but the sb900 should be compatible.
BOBBY H : Can this be used with Studio Strobes?JASON T : I'm using them with Promaster PD300. They worked flawlessly out of the box. It's a huge step up in consitency from optical triggering.TARRON J : It can be used with strobes and speed lights.RANDY P : YesPATSY M : Bobby, I do not know that answer about strobes but I do know that they will work with off camera flashes and sometimes I use that as a source for studio lighting. I have the Alien bees therefore use the wire that is available... Thanksnelson s : Yes, as soon as ur strobes have a 3.5mm pc sinc plug that you can connect the receiver to using a pc sinc cord. I use these to trigger my alien bees in studio.CRYSTAL S : Yes!! I have used it with my alien bee.
Shopper : Is this a good combination for use with a Nikon D200 and a Novatron 1000 watt power pack? Camera uses the transmitter and powerpack the reciever or any other cables needed? Want to be wireless.JOEY A : Don't know your power pack ports but afaik they come with 3.5mm and pc sync plugs, and possibly an adapter for 1/4".brad b : Sure, but you'll still need a mini to (whatever input) the novatron has.

There is a reason why these are so popular, they just work.

Easy to use and consistent

I’ve used these for years at weddings and events for triggering slaves and love them—they’re easy to use and consistent. Unfortunately, I’ve had to replace the transmitter once every five years or so, which I’m ok with, but it is annoying when it finally starts dying on the job (which is why I always have more than one on hand). I wish they would sell the transmitter by itself as the receivers seem to last longer, but I understand why they don’t. Overall, I would recommend this and buy again.

I recommend Phottix.

I purchased two sets of these after needing to replace one transmitter of my PW brand. I initially tried Phottix because other well known photographers in the industry use them. And secondly because they are very affordable. I recommend Phottix to other pros. I am a seasoned photographer and wish I would have tried these in the very beginning.

Ok, want to see better for the price and other reviews

Trigger works well, sometimes misfires but does work a far distance away and once you configure the right settings it should work. Have had times where it will just not fire although the trigger is testing alright, if that makes sense.

Nikon issue

I purchased these without doing the research available. I shoot Nikon and it seems the hot shoe on the Nikon D750 allows the unit to slide in just a tad too far for the connection pins to align properly. I have to pull it back about 1/32 inch to get the locking pin to seat. it's a bit annoying but the units work well once I get them properly seated. This is a Nikon problem so do your research to make sure they will seat properly with you camera. Google it!

Very recommended

These are great. I do wish they used more plastic on the trigger since I do break them regularly at weddings. That said, I haven't found a better trigger, so I'll keep on buying them.

My favorite so far

Use these in all my weddings, events, and portrait sessions. Simple and reliable. Much more user friendly for basic off-camera lighting than Pocket Wizards, although I still keep some of those for more complex setups. My only issue is they could be more robust. I have to replace the transmitter every so often because the weight of the on-camera flash attached to the top (for receptions, etc.) eventually breaks the transmitter mount. Luckily, relatively inexpensive.

Pretty good value

Actually, for the price, works well. The only downside is that the attached flash must be adjusted at that flash and not from the camera.

Cost effective, easy to set up, and rock solid trigger.

Great trigger. Very reliable. I have pocket wizards and always struggled to get the system sync’d. This is a no brainer at a fraction of the cost. If you shoot manual and need a reliable trigger system for back fill at an event/Reception this is the product to get. My second shooter also has the same set and he just goes on a different channel. We can easily use each other’s systems if need be. Wish I had bought these years ago.

Works like a charm!

I bought these because my Pocket Wizards stopped communicating with each other, at first I was going to use them as a back-up, but have now become my go to triggers. No issues with them yet, great price.

Trust worthy flash triggers!

This is my third pair of these triggers that I've bought. That's how much I love them. I use to use pocket wizards, but they had so many issues and I heard that these didn't have the firing problems as PW. So I tried them out and they're amazing. I've never had a problem with miss firing and it's so easy to shoot with an on camera flash too unlike PW. I've been using them for about 3 years now and have been loving every minute of use with them. The BIG plus is that they're cheap compared to PW. Don't wait just buy and set and you'll be happy

Great system for all

I had already owned the Canon flash version of Phottix. This system is just as good for my Canon cameras.. I've been using it for portraits outdoors, and from what I have found, it works like a charm. Just as good as the Canon flash version. This is my 45th year in Photography and it's more fun now than before digital.

Works as advertise

These manual units works with all my flash equipment straight from the box. Then I realize Phottix has a iTTL unit for my nikon Flashes, So now I'm using both with some minor issues with the iTTL. But after making some adjustments with the FEC things worked good. Without a bunch of gimmicks I'm sure Cannon users will be happy as well.

There's a lot more functionality in other triggers

I had a couple of these (of the four I bought) cease working. They also don't support any hss functionality. I use YongNuo triggers now.

Great item

By MT

I am glad to see that Adorama is now selling this item. I had to buy mine at another vendor. I own 2 sets of these and also own the previous version of this product which was the strato 1. First off if you need to have remote units operate on TTL this is not the item for you. This item will allow you to place a trigger in the built in camera shoe, use it on TTL and fire remote units like monolights and shoe flashes on manual. I have yet to find a situation in which I could not fire these unit...

These things are awesome!

By EdFromOhio

These things are awesome. They're about the equivalent of the PocketWizard Plus II's. They don't do TTL, but they do have excellent range, they are very reliable, nice appearance and use standard AAA batteries. A huge bonus is that you can just put the transmitter between your flash and camera, and your flash works normally yet triggers remote flashes. You can mix and match brands of flashes and cameras. In my case I use a Canon camera but Nikon SB-28 flashes. The Nikon flashes will wor...
