Great buy for the money.

Nice pair of glasses. I use them for butterflying and on general walks with my dog. Clear, close focusing and small enough to carry for general use.

Compact with sharp images

A great pair of binoculars for casual use. A friend recommended these as being a great value for the money. We are starting to become interested in bird watching and this fits the bill.

Outstanding!

Bought for my wife who is botanical artist who is passionate about getting details right. Liked ours so much we just got one for 6 year-old grandson as size, quality, and close-up capability were perfect for young birder.

Pentaxfantastico!!

He is my faithful companion when I am of excursion since it allows me to observe flowers and animals that are near but which they are inaccessible because they are in sites difficult to arrive.

Great Binocular - Does What it Claims!

I bought these because I've had good experiences with other Pentax optics. I wasn't disappointed. The close focus capability is outstanding, with good contrast and 3D effect. Build quality is a little above average, but I don't think I'd want to drop them - they're not that robust. Nice coatings on the lenses with minimal reflections and good light gathering for such a small aperture. Eye relief is not adequate for most glasses wearers. I wouldn't consider these an all-around binocular and didn't buy them for that reason. I bought them for close-up veiwing of insects and for that they are excellent. You really can't go wrong for this price.

Works as advertised

The Pentax Papilio is unique and has its own niche. The convergent lenses move together and focus down to about 18". This allow stereo viewing of most anything you see, and you can look at stuff you never thought to look at before. It really works as advertised--I easily read the writing on jeans rivets, light fixture stickers and car tires from 6 feet away. This is a $[...] product, so don't expect it to perform at $1,000 prices. There's a fair amount of glare/internal reflections with bright objects, and a little softness in the focus. It is a solid product, with Pentax quality, and well worth the price. It compares well with similarly priced binoculars. The carrying case is a tad too small, for it's pretty hard to insert the binos with the neck strap attached. However, the neck strap has quick detach anchors and is easily removed. Finally, you must unthread the neck strap if you with to mount the eyepiece covers on the neck strap.

• This Pentax binocular series is called Papilio, the Latin word for butterfly, because it was specifically developed for close-range observation of butterflies and other insects. The Pentax Binoculars Papilio 6.5 x 21 incorporates a special mechanism that automatically compensates for the misalignment of right and left image fields at close ranges (parallax), allowing easy observation of insects in the field and exhibits at galleries and museums. Thanks to its go-anywhere portability, the Pentax Binoculars Papilio series is also ideal for conventional binocular subjects, including spectator sports, travel and hiking. The Pentax Binoculars Papilio series features multi-coated optical elements to minimize unwanted light reflections for a well-defined subject image. The combination of aspherical optical elements and high-refraction BaK4 glass prisms assures a sharp, clear image with minimal distortion, even at the edges.
