ROBERT H : Hi, How exactly would you aim your speedlight with this on it, if your speedlight was used as a "slave" unit? Would you aim the light at the subject, or aim the speedlight up at the ceiling? Thanks RobertHARVEY W : EHi Robert: I aim the Omni-Bounce about 45 degree angle foward [like you are shooting just above the subjects head] and I am very happy with the results. You get a very soft light on your subjest. Harveynter an answer to this question.DAVID F : Hi Robert, I've done both. When there's a surface to bounce off of (ceiling, walls) I'll tilt the flash head. When there isn't I just point it straight at the subject. I've bought the omni bounce for a sunpack flash too. Very happy with the product.JAMES L : I use as a bounce off ceiling mostly.Peter K : Hi, I would point the flash at a 45degree angle . Not straight up and no direct at the subject Good luck, peteGERALD C : Partly it's a matter of ceiling height and reflectivity. A flat relatively low white ceiling (maybe 8-10'), and I'd aim the flash to bounce off the ceiling. If you're under a high ceiling or one that's dark, or cathedral shaped, the bounce won't be effective and you have to aim the flash forward at the subject. Also true when outdoors. Off camera as a slave, I'd use the same rule of thumb with a preference for bounce flash. With my 70D, I used the built in flash as the commander for a pair of 420EX as remotes. I also fired the built in flash as it fills in shadows under chins or deep set eyes, and gives a little sparkle to the eyes. JerrySTEVE W : Hey, Robert. Well, I'm no professional. That's for sure. :) But when I do use my flash both booted to the camera and as a slave unit I would say 90% of the time it's not pointed directly at the subject. Most likely at the ceiling or wall to "bounce" the light. I would try it both ways on whatever you're shooting and maybe also adjust the intensity of the flash for some variation. Hope this helps!

Works great, takes up little room in bag

I just now leave it on the flash now. Best use seems to be for bouncing off the ceiling, but I have used it for a direct shot of groups before. Very good investment.

I had excellent experiences with this accessory. It really soften lights and I suggest everyone to use it in every occasion. I use it even to soften fillflash.

forget fong's [$] cloud domes

best all around [$]wonder. I never take it off my flash gun. complements my bounce flash all the time. never fails. with it on, i can hand over my camera to whoever to take any indoor flash photos and results are beautiful, and totally consistent regardless of expertise. All it takes is to raise the bounce head a bit and you're all set. Equally perfect for off-camera flash, get studio quality soft light from your 3 or 4 remote 450EXs..

Not the results I expected

I admit I haven't used this too much because I didn't like the results the few times I've used it. I think the lighting is best when I bounce my flash off the ceiling or wall. Plus, I don't have to carry this item around. It is also difficult to get on and off (at least initially -- I'm sure it loosens up if you use it more often than I do).

Why didn't I get this before

The Omni-Bounce creates a Diffused Bare Bulb Effect. Giving even coverage across the entire frame, with lenses from 15mm to 200mm in the 35mm format. (And equal in other formats as well.) The Omni-Bounce is easy to use and goes onto and off of your flash in seconds with custom fitting, except UNI, and No Velcro. Designed for years of service with out the bulk of some other Diffusers, it is small enough to fit easily into your gadget bag or pocket.
