This is a very fast unit that works well. For a top end unit it would have been nice to have some more installation hardware provided. I tried to set this up with AHCI...changed the BIOS and Windows registry, but it still will not go into AHCI mode...it may be a Windows issue. It would be nice if the provided software would perfom this task.

This drive was bought for use as the boot drive for a desktop I built. With this drive, an ASRock Extreme6 motherboard, and Windows 8, I get 8 second boot times. Yes, that's right. Eight seconds flat. Programs open lightning fast, as do games. I really have no complaints whatsoever. It's not the cheapest 256GB hard drive, but it's one of the fastest solid state drives on the market, so I didn't expect it to be cheap. It also comes with small stickers to put on the outside of your build, so that's always fun. Overall, I would buy this drive again, and it's possible I'll buy one for my laptop's second drive bay to speed it up too.

This is an excellent product. I come from a sandisk extreme 120gb (which by itself is excellent too) and i decided to increase the capacity of my drive because i was almost full on that one. This ssd comes highly recommended by all the hardware sites i read and i decided to buy it. It is excellent. The speed relation between this and the Sandisk is almost not perceivable but it is a llittle bit faster when booting and opening big files and editing pictures. I am more than happy with my purchase. Installed on a Macbook Pro 2010.

Before buying, I was on a mission to get my hands on a top quality SSD. I looked up many reviews for SSD's including this ones predecessor, the Samsung 830. That drive was well known to be the best all around in terms of price vs performance. Mac users often state it as the go to drive when upgrading their Mac Book Pro (pre retina). I was in the same situation, where I had recently purchased a Mac Book Pro that came with a 750GB 5400RPM drive. Going from that HDD to this SSD is worlds apart in terms of speed. If you are thinking about it, don't hesitate, just do it, it is worth it. MBP users: But what about all of those lost Gigabytes? If you don't use your optical drive (DVD) then you can put two mass storage devices in your machine, SSD for boot/operating system and the HDD in the optical bay. Samsung has been making "memory chips" for a long time. They have their own factories instead of getting supplied chips from other manufacturers. Therefore then can offer excellent price to match other competitors. This drive doesn't come with a 2.5inch to 3.5inch drive adaptor. But since this drive was going in my MBP, it doesn't matter for me. As far as performance, SATA3's spec is blazing fast. the 840 Pro meets these speeds with enthusiasm. I got this drive on sale, for two twenty. After installing it, I don't look back. Excellent!

REad the reviews, including in Maximum PC. Samsung makes their own controller & NAND.

Did a clean Windows7 Install in 10-15 minutes. Boots in 15 seconds from on button to windows use. Windows experience went from 5.9 to 7.7 for disk performance on an old sata II PC. Quiet, no chattering disk noise.
