Rec'd a gift cert for Christmas, so I came on-line and ordered this as a replacement for my primary vid tripod which is falling apart. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality and sturdiness for the price. The lever that locks the plate on top of the 'pod is super tight. I had to use a pry bar to open it the first time - no exaggeration. Plate fits back on either direction, which is nice. It takes some weight (or a good push down) to snap the lock back into place. My Sony HD cams are only slightly larger than the plate, so I'm sure it would support larger cams quite easily. Legs lock solidly, but levers are easy to pull back up for release. I would certainly recommend this to anyone who was looking for a decent video tripod but didn't want to spend big bucks for a "professional grade" pod. I haven't used it much yet, but it looks like it's going to be one of my better purchases.

The only flaw is the Quick release plate. It has a small amount of play when locked down. A couple of small pieces of felt fixed that. I am mounting a Celestron C-90 Maksutov Cassegrain spotting scope to this tripod. This Sunpak holds it easily and guiding is almost perfect. The ease of adjusting the tensioners was a surprise. When unlocked the head wants to return to a neutral position. The more you pan back and up, the more weight it seems to compensate for. No additional tensioner adjustment is necessary. Unlike some of my other tripods this one can actually point to zenith as well. Some manufacturers claim 10 to 20 pounds of capacity, Sunpak delivers with this one. One last note: To level this tripod you do not need to adjust the legs just loosen the large knob under the head, center the bubble and tighten. Really a lot of design innovation went into this tripod. [...]
