Questions & Answers

Shopper : What is the recycle time?DARRICK S : As long as you are using alkaline batteries. the recycle time is about one second. That is until the AA batteries go down. It is a very dependable slave.OLEKSANDR D : If the batteries are fresh, it takes a few seconds (3-5).SYLVIA H : With fresh batteries the recycle time is less than 5 seconds.FRANK M : I HAVE NEVER TIMED THE RECYCLE TIME, AS IT IS VERY SHORT AND MEETS MY NEEDS. IT IS A GREAT LITTLE SLAVE FLASH. FRANK MOOREANTHONY D : Maybe a two or three seconds with fresh batteries. They seem to recycle as fast if not faster than the on board flash on my Canon T2i.DAVID V : I have two of these slave units. Recycle time with fresh batteries seems to be about 2-3 seconds. Keep in mind that this is triggered by line-of-sight to your master flash unit(s). If the ambient light is bright there is limited range, but under general indoor condtions I've been able to get good results triggering them from about 20-30 ft from the main flash. They are great for backlighting subjects in darker rooms. For the money they have been very good little flashes.FREDERICK P : On a new set of batteries, it is 2-3 seconds, which is faster than the documentation states
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?SYLVIA H : I chose the mini slaves because it had been recommended in a book on photographing architectural ruins. In use it was semi-su cessfull. Will not work outdoors I can't adjust the power. However with digital I can experiment & adjust camera exposure.DAVID V : This seemed to be the better combination of low cost and reliable when it comes to these little slave flashes. I've had a few shoots with them and I absolutely love them. THey take a few seconds to recycle, and don't trigger well in bright outdoor light, but barring those little drawback they are wonderfull little lights for adding extra kick to many different types of photos.

It proved very easy and convenient to just hold this unit in one hand while taking a picture in the other worked out very well

Taking portraits "on the go" using the camera's flash unit results in flat pictures, like when traveling. It proved very easy and convenient to just hold this unit in one hand while taking a picture in the other worked out very well.

Very helpful tool

Used one of these in photographing my wife's interior design clients finished projects for several years. A must have item! The prop feature is genius, and it's small, also a hot shoe. All for 20$ or so....the batteries seem to last forever...actually I'm buying another one, sometimes ya gotta have 2 for those certain interior shots where there's just so much shadow. This fits the bill!!

Great slaves for the price

These are great little slaves. They're small and when mounted on a gorrilapod can be placed in very convenient places. They are easy to carry and can easily be thrown into a camera bag as that alternative to a pop-up flash. The output is good and easily modified with a honlphoto speedstrap and accessory (ie: grid or softbox.) I started with two but quickly went back for three more. I did have a problem with one of the slaves blowing a resistor, and would not advise leaving the batteries in when not in use. They also have a problem with picking up the master flash in brightly lit area, But overall a great product.

Great value

Until I started using this product, I was getting harsh shadows behind my subjects when taking head shots. With this slave flash aimed at the wall behind the subjects, the shadows are gone and the need for touch-up after the fact much reduced.

Good supplemental lighting

Will be using this for fill-flash for interior photography. Good little unit for the price. Would be even better, and would pay a bit more for it, if the output level could be varied by 1/2 or so.

Rerurned

Does not recognize my Speedlight as a master flash using auto mode. Purchased different slaves. No problems now. Works fine for manual operation. Recycle time unknown. Guessing 4 seconds. Don't leave the batteries inside the unit when not in use.

cheap alternatve

bought these to assist with portrait photography when my available money was low. used them almost immediately with my digital brand camera mounted flash and they worked flawlessly. these may not be the quality you are looking for in high end photography, but they have fit my every need.

Surprising performance in a small packag

After extensive review of inexpensive portable slave flashes, I bought two of these for my portable speedlight kit. Used as kickers, hair lights and for fill, especially for architectural interior shots. A little slow to recycle, but fantastic performance for under $20/unit. Consistent output and doesn't add a lot of weight to porta-kit or camera bag. Great when you need that little "boost".

Perfect for macro with light tent

These were perfect for my purposes. I used two of them, firing through a light tent to light up butterfly specimens for a scientist's project. Triggered by my camera's flash on a tripod attached by a cord, it was easy to move the flashes in or out to adjust the exposure. I shot with the camera tethered to the computer so I could see each shot immediately at full size on the computer screen.

Great Little Helper

Bought this slave flash for testing lighting methods before investing the big bucks. Mostly using it for fill light and simple tests. Works very well when bounced off of walls and is small so you can hide it within your photos when necessary. Great price for a nice product.

Inexpensive flash

Handy little unit for fill. Can't beat the price. Doesn't take up much space, and can be placed in a variety of locations with the adjustible prop lever. An unknown: how long is its lifespan? For what it costs and does, I would expect a year to two with typical use.

The Smith-Victor PG160S Wireless Mini Slave Flash can be used to light small areas or as an accent light to add sparkle to your subject. It measures 1-1/4" x 2-3/8" x 3" and is small enough to hide behind objects.

The built-in bracket allows it to be positioned on the floor, on a shelf, or anywhere a little extra light is needed. It has a Guide No. of 40'/12 m and a built-in slave. The flash output is fixed at full power. The PG160S has a standard 1/4"-20 tripod socket.
