not bad

As others have mentioned it doesn't seem to fit flush with the bottom of the d60. It's almost like the piece that goes into the camera body is a tad too long. The IR remote shutter release is a pain but that's nikons fault. For the price it's hard to beat.

It does the job

Works just as it should. It would be nice if it was a bit slimmer, but really, it isn't bad at all.

Nice feel. Nice fit

Makes the D60 feel solid my hands. Using 2 battery packs adds more weight and stability, which is a plus!

You pay for what you get!...or not?

At first I was reluctant to buy this. Targus does make great products, but for my notebook. So I almost payed twice as much for the other grip. I'm glad I didn't. When I got the grip today, it was much more than I expected. Very nice finish on it, looks pretty much identical to the D40's texture. Handling is greatly improved. The vertical shutter button works well, but you cannot adjust exposure without controls and its a bit weird since its not the 2 stage shutter button. but I mean it would be okay if you want to shoot in auto I suppose. Its as good as it gets since the D40 doesn't have hardware for a true 2nd shutter anyway. Also it makes the little D40 fit very nice and snug in my slingshot 200 bag, instead of it rolling around inside. I'm a firm beleiver in "you get what you pay for", but in this case I got much more than what I payed for. best [...]I've spent in a while. Buy this! =]

no gripe with this grip

great fit and finish. perfect for the d40. unlike many users, i find the ir remote switch useful especially when using manual focus lenses in portrait mode. the ir switch does feels a little cheap hence the 4 stars.

Nice Grip!

After trying other grips on my D60 with great disapointment, I reluctantly gave the Targus a try. Finally! This grip fits well,is made well and looks like it belongs on the camera. Buy this grip first and save the headaches. Functions well, holds up nicley and last a long time with the dual batteries. Nice aftermarket grip!

Better camera Balance

The camera is just too small without the grip. Provides for a better balance of the camera in your hands.

Great product, great buying experience

The Targus Vertical Battery Grip for the Nikon D40 has proven to be a high quality product. It fits perfectly with my camera body. The texture matches that of the camera body to a tee. The product was a high quality purchase at a reasonable price. My experience with Adorama was so smooth I really couldn't believe it. I will definitely purchase from Adorama again.

Nice addition to the D60

In addition to doubling the available charge, this grip adds some much needed heft and size to the smallish D60. The fit is precise and the finish is very close to the Nikon finish. This is a great accessory to the D40-D60 line! Very much worth the money.

Well constructed product for the price.

I have a motor winder for my very old FG made by Nikon to compare with and this one even though an after market fits and looks like a Nikon brand.

Great Feel

Really makes My D40 feel complete. I have since bought a D90 and the Nikon D90 grip MB-D80 the targus has the same complete feeling fit and finish as the Nikon grip on my D90.

Perfect fit for my Nikon D60

After reviewing other camera grips for my new Nikon D60, this grip by Targus was the best fit on the camera. It has a textured finish instead of a smooth finish which makes for easy handling and the grip is easy to install and operate.

So far...so good

I just got it today. So far, it's working fine. It does add some weight to the camera but not too much to hinder it's use. The grip "feels" good in my hands and the finish is nearly the same as the camera. While I am not crazy about the steps one must take to use vertical shutter release function, it's not the fault of the grip. It is however, Nikon's fault for not providing a contact for a vertical shutter button function. The one drawback I found is the tripod mount is open at the top. You can see the batteries at the top of the tripod mount. I plan to put some tape over the top of that hole to help keep rain, dust and dirt out of the battery compartment.

Nice!

Great product! Bought this for the extra battery capacity and to make the camera easier to hold. The shutter release works by IR.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do.

The grip fits perfectly onto my D40. It is easy to install or take off at a moments notice. Nice versatility between accepting the Li-Ion batteries or AA. It really looks like it belongs on your camera. (added bonus: you have to take the battery door off of your camera to install the grip, there is a little slot for the door to be stored in so it does not get lost!) Another excellent product from Targus, you can't go wrong!

I like the grip

This is my third attempt at owning a battery grip for my Nikon D40x. My first was one of those grips that's also a built-in rechargeable battery in itself. Sounds great in theory but the fit to finish was horrible. It didn't sit/mount flush with the Nikon camera body. And the texture of the grip was shiny and smooth, while the Nikon body is purposely textured a bit rough and not as glossy. My second attempt was a similar battery grip by another maker, though it was identical to the one I've originally stated. Back it went for a refund, as did my first. With that being said, the Targus BGD40 is my third attempt and it's a keeper. The fit to finish is the best I've seen on any after-market item for Nikon. It fits flush and tight to the Nikon body. No gaps are along the seems. Nothing rattles. And both the Targus grip and Nikon camera body compliment each other nicely. This grip will hold either two Nikon batteries or six AA's. That's nice for times of travel, if your Nikon batteries can't be recharged for any reason. And of course this Targus grip gives you a full size camera, when you need one. Plenty to hold! It does feature a vertical shutter release, but keep in mind that it functions via infra-red signal. You simply tell your camera to use remote shooting, and turn on the grip's vertical shutter. You also have to hit a switch on the grip that releases a little pop-out infra-red remote. That's all there is to it. It's not horrible. It's not great either. But if you need it, it's there. You can't half-press focus like you're use to doing with the vertical shutter release. You just press (just as you would your Nikon wireless remote control) and the camera quickly detects the best focal point and snaps the photo. That's not the fault of Targus. Nikon didn't include a way for battery grips to communicate to the camera body. At least not on our lower end D40 series cameras. But all in all, I like the grip, and it's a nice option to have and at a fair price. One more thing.. yes, the little battery door that comes off of your Nikon body gets stored inside the Targus grip for safe keeping.

Great For Wedding!

For the new D60 this is a pretty sweet product. I was a little nervous because everyone who had a d40 and d40x said something about unscrewing the battery cover, but I had no trouble installing it on my camera. It was perfect for the wedding I shot and had over a quater of it's juice left after an 9 hour wedding! Plus it makes you look like a professional, which is great for me because I'm 20 years old alot of people just don't take me seriously, so anything that helps me look professional is awesome! The only problem is that the second shutter works off the remote feature and does not feel or respond like the actual shutter. So that's why I never use it. So go ahead and save yourself some money and get the battery pack without all the features on it that just hold the batteries, I guarenty it will be all you need!

Targus BG-D40 Vertical Battery Grip holds 2 EN-EL9 batteries or 6 AA batteries to offer double-length shooting time. It also features a vertical shutter release that makes shooting with the camera in a vertical position just as comfortable as shooting horizontally
