Questions & Answers

Andy R : I'm looking for a tripod that I can use "inverted", the the camera hangs underneath. For shooting macros of small plants. Any help?JEANETTE A : I think you would have to make some kind of custom mounting system to attach the feet to whatever you are hanging it from.... The tripod doesn't come with anything like this. Not sure if that helps at all!WILLIAM H : This tripod won't invert - there needs to be a movable center column that you can pull out and put back in from the other direction. If you're using this with a smartphone, you might want to look at this: <a href="http://www.adorama.com/TTLL229.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/TTLL229.html</a> or this: <a href="http://www.adorama.com/DLCSSPTK.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/DLCSSPTK.html</a>MICHAEL C : This compact tripod won't invert. You can point the camera down, but it will be from the side of tripod, causing it to tip over if the legs are not extended. I do enjoy the size, height and price of this tripod for international travel or hikes. I don't use it when at home or travel with car.
Paula P : Could I use this with a Nikon D3100?DIANE M : I am not thrilled with this tripod. It is very unstable. I think it would be ok for a lightweight point and shoot camera. I won't use it with my Canon T1i.RYAN T : It should be alright. I use it with my Cannon Rebel T1i, and that weighs slightly more than the D3100. If you have a big lens, I'd be careful. I just use the kit 18-55 lens. It's not super sturdy but it's nice that it compacts small enough to fit in a back pack. I wish it was a little taller, though.MAX G : I have not used it with the legs extended yet, I used it in the closed position last week on a rock while hiking and it held my D7000 fine.GRANT H : I use this with the Nikon D5000. I believe the D3100 is about 20% smaller than my camera, so it should have no problems working with your camera. Keep in mind though that this is not an ideal tripod for everyday use. I only bought it because I specifically needed to carry it around while backpacking through Southeast Asia. It got the job done but was a bit wobbly and can be tricky to get level. Overall, I like it for what it is, but I have a bigger, full-size tripod for real use.PAUL K : The tripod which I received definitely was not strong enough for a large SLR camera. It works fine for the use which I had intended it . However, for camera work where stability is paramant, I would look at some of the larger tripods.WILLIAM H : No. This is a very light and flimsy tripod - useful for very small, lightweight cameras but not for SLRs.

Not for an SLR, good for point and shoot

This tripod is good for holding a lightweight point and shoot (less than 1lb) camera at mid level. It shakes if you touch it, but I would say its primary use is for taking group shots using a timer when traveling small and light. The leg pivots could be stiffer, flex is there but not unusable, torsional wobble is what it suffers most (the weak point of most tripods). Its has play in addition to flex in this regard. The tilt/pan head is good for holding 1/2 lb well, 1 lb marginal off-axis. It cannot lock 100% solidly. The package makes no claims to hold a DSLR, and I would not try it unless its a last resort. I hear the Giottos version is better, but its more expensive and have yet to compare it to this one. Overall build quality is decent, though not stellar, but decent for the price paid.

hippy-hippy-shake

It's an [$] tripod!!I didn't expect an amazing tripod. I needed something to pack in the motorcycle that wasn't to big or heavy. This fits the bill.It holds my Rebel XTi, but strains under the weight. It has a death wobble if you touch the camera.HOWEVER...with a shutter release or time delay release it will do the trick. If you need a steady tripod this is NOT it, but it's [$]!! What do you xpect.

Decent but has quirks

I love that this tripod can fit in my purse when it is folded up. I love that it can be set up in seconds. But there are two things that took some figuring out. One is you have to tighten the legs at the top by turning them to get them to lock in an open position. There's no documentation that says this, and it took a few tries to figure out how to make it stay upright. The other is if the camera is not mounted on it just so, it ends up at a tilt- until you get it on there right, your shots will not be level. It could also be a little more stable- I worry it might fall over in high winds. All in all though, it is my first tripod and I am pretty happy with it. It does what I need it to do. A good buy for the money.

Shaky

Don't even think about using this tripod without a release cord - it is very shaky. The head feels very weak, small and not inspiring for serious shots at all. Yes it very small and lightweight? but...

Great little tripod!

Purchased in hopes of a reasonably-durable tripod I could take backpacking without weighing down my pack or punishing my wallet. For [$], I'm very pleased thus far. Unexpectedly, it fits perfectly on the back of my Lowepro Slingshot 100.I haven't tested it with anything beyond 135mm...so I can't be sure how it will support your larger telephoto lenses. But if you're a casual photographer or mild photo enthusiast like myself, this is great entry-level lens that won't break your wallet

Good Piece

I bike a lot and wanted a tripod that was not a burden to carry around. This fitted my profile to the bill. I have a canon rebel xti. and this holds the rebel plus a 100-300mm lens with ease. have used it for a week now and am pleased with it. Cons: the central ridge is made of plastic. It was my mistake that I was slightly rough on it and the plastic broke. tht is the one weakness of the tripod. the plastic parts are not very durable.

Love it - wouldn't be without it.

I've taken this tripod everywhere over the past 3 years, and I wouldn't be without it. On a recent trip to Iran it got a lot of use in low-light so I could use long exposures without resorting to flash. A lot of other people on the trip admired it. I like that that it sets up and takes down in seconds, yet has all the bells and whistles found on a lot of the higher-end "professional" models, and fits easily in a daypack or through a gear loop. I have no complaints, other than it would be nice if it had a little spirit level on it so you could see when you're gear was level, but for the price that might be unreasonable!

hiker tripod

I keep this tripod in my backpack. It is small and lightweight for hiking all day. It sets up quickly and folds down just as quickly.
