I got this head because a smaller one was not enough to sustain my A900. Overall I am happy even if precision composition might be difficult. Good for travel

All around great tripod head. I use it MUCH more than my pan and tilt head. Ease of use and stability makes it an easy choice.

Easy to operate. Would be nice to have a separate knob for rotation vs. the ball itself, to allow panning without changing tilt. For the price though it is well built and operates smoothly.

This is a fantastic ball head for the money. It's solid and well built, and adjustments are simple. When I lock it down, my camera does not move. It's fantastic when combined with a Gitzo GT2531 tripod!

Bought this to go on a 190CXPRO4 as a hiking pod. Works well, however, I miss having a separate pan control like on the 488RC2. If weight is not an issue, get it instead if you are looking at this line.

I love this head! It provides me with all the angles I need, and the mechanism is smooth. I also love the simplicity - one lever to adjust for all angles. The quick release system is great and can be locked in so that you cannot accidentally release the camera. If you have a second camera, I would recommend buying a second quick release plate so that you can switch cameras with ease. I mainly photograph flowers, portraits and landscapes, and this ball head paired with my 190XPROB make a great combination. Great value for money!

This is a good product except that it's heavy. I purchased it because I have other Manfrotto heads and it makes it easier to work with a single system. I would recommend it to a friend with a comment about the weight.

The size for attaching is larger then my old tripods, had to buy a 3/8 treaded tripod to use it, couldn't even find a converter for what I needed. Other than that, I'm very happy with it

I had seen a pro photographer brag about the ball head on a You Tube video. Adorama offered the best price and I took a chance on it. From the moment I set the QR plate on the my camera I knew I made a very good buy. It does not have all the other knobs (bells and whistles) the more expensive ball heads come with. Who cares, it does what I need it to do...hold my camera firm.

Excellent ballhead that does what is advertised. You can pay a lot more for a ballhead but you don't have to. This one suits me fine.

It is a perfect size for my monopod w/ short legs and for my regular monopod.

Wasn't to sure if I was going to like this head. I have always been a "pan & tilt" guy. But after a few minutes of playing around I really like it. Seems to hold the weight and is study. I may still like the "old school" pan & tilt head, but this new ball contraption is working out!!!

This RC2 head is so adjustable and compatible with the 190XPROB tripod, it is amazing! No negative features. I am strictly SLR with medium to long lens. It works for me! You will not be unhappy!

If you are to the point of buying a tripod, you are probably fairly serious about your photography. Don't try to go cheap. If you buy an inferior tripod and head, you'll only delay a bigger outlay further down the road. Monfrotto produces high-quality equipment for prosumer-level photogs, and there are plenty of options available that don't break the bank. The ball head is great--plenty of range of motion while maintaining stability for long exposures. I also added a corded shutter release to ensure there was no camera movement for night shots (i.e. eclipse footage, anyone?). The quick connect is handy as well. Once installed, the camera connects and disconnects quickly and easily (but not TOO easily). If you are unfamiliar with using a tripod and head, expect to spend some time learning how to use them properly to get the most out of your equipment. The controls are not overly complicated, but they are not necessarily intuitive, either. Overall, great product with great value.

I never had a ball head before, always bought tilt and pan heads. This being my first, I did find a bit of a learning curve. But not much. Once I figured out how to position it and how to use it, it is a dream. Sometimes though with longer lenses I have to readjust a little as it will drop the long lens just a bit.

Better than I expected - this allows for quick setup and camera angle changes - much better than pan/tilt setups.

It can be used effectively on a tripod and also allows stability on a Monopod! The quality is super precision.

I have now used my new ball Head several times. It can be set to hold the camera completely still or set with just enough drag for steady shooting but still pan easily. I'm completely satisfied.

As far as stability and ease of use go, this ball head is great. I got this with the Manfrotto 190XPROB, but the one complaint I have is that when handling the ball head I accidentally brushed against the threaded top of the head under the plate, which had a metal shard sticking up. I didn't notice until a few minutes later when my fingertip was in pain and I saw a black metal piece buried quite a bit under the skin. It took some tweezers and jaw clenching to get the metal out. Manfrotto should really debur all sharp metal points. This is unacceptable, especially for a semi-pro level ball head.

My ball head does just what I wanted it to. It meets all of my needs. It may not be strong enough for a professional but for me it is perfect.

I use this ball head on my Bogen-Manfrotto 190XB tripod and it is a great combination. This head provides great support for my Canon XTi and fairly heavy lenses (24-105mm F/4 L canon). This head provides a great range of motion and has the side slots to do portraits orientation setups. This head also provides great stability for my photography. It would be nice if it came with a pouch for storage, but I already had some I could use. This item is really light (to me) and that is good since I do a lot of hiking to photograph waterfalls. I dropped it once from about 4 ft on solid granite and it didn't even hardly leave a mark. This is not a cheaply constructed head. This head is great for long exposures and met my expectations.

I purchased the Bogen/Manfrotto 486RC2 Compact Ball Head in November, 2007, along with the 190XPROB Tripod Legs and the 804RC2 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head. I have found this ball head to be a good value. The mechanism is larger than many of its type, and is quite stable and tight when engaged. When disengaged, it flops around effortlessly. I have used this ball head extensively for scenic, architectural, nature and automotive photography. It adjusts and sets very quickly, and with a camera-mounted level, it is easy to set it level time after time. My only disappointment is that the tension lever controls the ball and the rotary base simultaneously. This makes panoramic shots difficult; however, I can replace the 486RC2 with my 804RC2 3-Way head to obtain that sort of control. If I had to do it over, I might select the 488RC2 (Manfrotto's 200PL-14) Midi Ball Head, although it is substantially more expensive.

The Compact Ball Head is strong enough to take 35mm SLR cameras with medium lenses, and light medium format cameras. It has a single ratchet locking knob for 360° pan and +90° -90° tilt movements. Head to tripod attachment is 3/8" female. All aluminum construction and black finish.
This versatile head is fitted with quick release 3157N camera plate system with a secondary safety catch.
