Great for tethering digital backs!

If you have trouble dropping the tether on a PhaseOne digital back, then this is the only way to go. There are massive problems with towers and specifically laptops dropping the tether while shooting. This happens because the thunderbolt port doesn't put out enough power, and the slightest dip in power to the digi back, interrupts the tether and crashes the system. This maintains an even power level keeping the tether active, even if the laptop dips for a sec. This is the ONLY solution any of us have found for this problem. If you can't afford to loose your tether on set, it's the best way to go. Totally worth the money. I'm not selling this, I'm just glad that we found it.

Only adds one additional port.

Good product but you have to use one of the 3 ports to plug into your computer. Therefore there only remains 2 ports to connect to, which is only one more than you had. Is it really worth it?

Great concept except for hub powered HDs

Works good on powered drives. Lacks power for hub powered drives. I confirmed this with he manufacturer and they are aware of this limitation.

The Kramer VS-30FW is a high-performance bi-directional hub/repeater for 9-pin FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) signals. It increases the number of ports available and/or extends the distance of FireWire cable runs.
