Questions & Answers

Tom L : Can the SBH-50 QR Ball Head be easily taken off so that I can put on a GH-300T Pistol Grip Ball Head?DANIEL T : I have had no problem unscrewing the ball head from the tripod. My order was shipped with the ball head separate from the tripod.COL DAVID L. S : Yes. I removed my Ball Head and replaced it with a Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head with Quick Release. I see no reason why you could not replace it with a Pistol Grip Ball Head. Best of luck. COL David L.JOHN B : I put a Bogen ball head on mine all I needed was an Allen wrenchROBBY H : Absolutely. The head is easily interchangeable.JON D : The ball head removes easily, just unscrew it from the top - there may or may not be a set screw to lock it, look from the bottom to check. I don't know about the pistol grip fitting it, though ... Vanguard customer service could probably let you know.
DOUGLAS B : What is the difference between the 253CB and the 253DT?TODD K : There does not appear to be a Vanguard 253DT product. There is a 253CT item. The Vanguard 253CT is the Alta+ carbon legs tripod without a head. The 253CB is a kit tat includes the 253CT legs, the SBH 50 ball head and a vinyl carrying case. The 253CB kit is a great deal for the money. The 253CT with the SBH 50 head weighs a grand total of just 1.935 kg. The tripod is not only extremely light but, also very strong and sturdy. If using the tripod outside, I recommend attaching a sand bag - 8 lbs - to the center rod of the tripod for stability in the wind. Good luck. Sincerely, ToddJON D : I can't spot a difference except that the the CB comes with the ballhead and the CT does not. Just FYI - I bought the CB a month ago to use for real estate HDR photography. So far I'm very pleased - it's quick & easy to use with plenty of capacity and stability for my T3i plus 10-22mm and SpeedLite. The ballhead is not the best out there, but for under $200 complete I've not seen anything else that compares.LUCIEN F : this can be a little confusing. the 253cb-50 is the alta pro 253-ct with ball head sbh-50. it's sold as a package. or you can by just the tripod without the ballhead which is the pro 253-ct. I found the ballhead that came with the package to light for my camera (sbh-50) so i purchase the vanguard bbh-200 ballhead it's bigger and stronger and does the trick.RICHARD H : I think you probably mean what is the difference between the 253CB and 253CT, since I cannot find any tripod by Vanguard called the 253DT. So assuming you mean the difference between the 253CB and 253CT, the answer is that there is no difference. "253CB" appears to be the number of the COMBINATION package of tripod legs plus ball head - i.e. you get the 253CT legs plus the SBG-50 QR ballhead together in this package which has the confusing number 253CB. It says this in the description and it even says it on the box I got - that you get the regular 253CT legs (plus the ballhead) in the package.

lightweight, yet solid

This tripod with the SBH-50 was an incredible bargain. The SBH-50 doesn't have a separate pan control and is somewhat lightweight, so I ordered the SBH-100. Now I have the perfect combo, still at a bargain. I will keep the SBH-50 for a future monopod purchase. I went to a few landsape outings already, this tripod is lightweight, yet solid. Extending the legs is effortless. It is so versatile with the tilting center column that you can get the camera to any angle you wish. With the column tilted, just keep an eye on the balance, which may require extending one leg more than the other two. One concern was that I didn't get the rock bag shown in the picture. Called Adorama cust serv, and received the bag a week later directly from Vanguard. Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Solid and a Joy to Use

I use this tripod for landscapes, general outdoor photography and some studio projects. It sets up fast, is very stable and adjusts quickly. The center post's ability to swing out at an angle has become one of my favorite features and has allowed me to set up shots that would have been much more difficult before, such as positioning the camera over the edge of a balcony railing a bit. I also appreciate the height it extends to-- I can set up with the camera higher than my head without having to extend the center post too far. I do a lot of hiking and, despite its carbon fiber legs, this tripod is a bit heavy for me to imagine taking it on extended trips. However, for a day in the mountains I don't think I will be able to resist the bit of extra weight.

Venguard 253CB is a great deal

I use a D300 and Nikkor 300mm F4 plus teleconverter most of the time. The Vanguard tripod and head work very well. I take them on kayak tours and hikes to take shots of wildlife.. I also use them in my stained glass studio and on location. The tripod is lightweight, strong and stable, and can be adjusted to handle any position I've ever needed. I'm very pleased.

Great Functionality & Value

Very nice quality works perfectly as it should. Only complaint would be the small knob on the ball lock, not really a problem for me but someone smaller would probably benefit from something with a bit more leverage. Otherwise it's perfect and silky smooth, you'd be hard pressed to find a better platform for the money. Highly recommended!

Very happy with my decision

I did a lot of research before selecting the 253CB-50. I read hundreds of reviews for various tripods. I read lots of articles and forum posts that recommended various characteristics of good tripods. This tripod had everything that I wanted: carbon fiber, ball head, three segment legs, a maximum weight that I could grow my kit into, an adjustable center post that would swing 180 degrees and a price that I felt comfortable with. It is very light. Last week I carried it (it came with a case and shoulder strap) on a three-hour photo walk and it never felt heavy. In the time that I've had it, the only disappointment was that the tripod didn't fit in my suitcase without removing the head.

Amazingly light and strong Tripod.

Extremely lightweight and yet still stable. Tripod is solidly built of good quality low weight materials. It Holds my D800 with 1lb lens at all angles, fully extended, and with riser set horizontal. Riser adjusts to all angles without removing any component. The tripod is excellent for macro photography. Weight can be added when using heavy lenses or accessories at unusual riser angles.
