These are great beginner binoculars. I've been using them for birding for a few weeks. My favorite feature is the adjustable eyepiece that prevents the lenses from fogging.

I was looking for camera equipment and stumbled upon these binoculars on a great sale. I thought I'd give them a try at that price. When I received them I was immediately struck by their weight, which to me is an indication of quality as there's more likely more metal and less plastic. But the real shocker was the quality of the view! I was absolutely shocked that these were as good as they were at the price they were listed. I'm a birder and have looked through many brands. My current binoculars cost me a couple hundred more than these and I'd rank these up there with my current pair. Wide angle of view, plenty of light, and nice twist eye cups. I wish the strap was better. In all honesty, I've only owned these a few weeks so I can't comment on durability and longevity or customer service. I bought 2 more pairs right away for both of my sons.

First impression, Minolta's are heavy, 39oz vs. 27oz for Talos. Not exactly featherweights, but arm fatigue really bugs me with the Minolta's. Talos has a slightly larger FoV, 7.5 vs. 6.5 degrees. Talos' are easier to hand hold with the 8x. I would guess Minolta's were 1 mag better. M44,M3, and M13 looked dull in Talos. Gemini twins were noticeably brighter in Minolta's. Talos' are sharp for 70-80 of field. I did notice some shadowing very close to edge, probably since they give you max FoV. But stars are crisp. These will work well for sky sweeping and satellite hunting, but not for deep sky. Great for eyeglass wearers, 23mm diam. lenses. Close focus amazing for bird watching. I think for 60 bucks these are a great bargain.

Ligjtweight and allows ample light for viewing. Perfect weight for women as well. Easy to focus and quite good for birding. Strap is very comfortable. Great value!

Except for a mini 25mm roof prism pair I have always stuck with porro in some old school way. The Athlon Talos 8x42s are sharp, have good contrast, and realize the brightness of their 5.25mm exit pupil. These well made roof prisms perform quite well, even for stargazing where internal reflections become a consideration. They are compact for their aperture and not light despite their polycarbonate case. I like the captive front lens caps. Glad for the 1/4" x 20 mount, however, at my average interpupillary distance clearance between the barrels is quite narrow which may complicate tripod mounting. FOV is not particularly wide yet the crisp image brings your object of interest to the fore. These are on my back porch for birding, the night sky, and exploring the neighborhood. I'll throw them in the truck, too. 100% satisfied and a steal on clearance.

Good compact binoculars. A little heavier than I expected but good quality glass. Comes with lenscaps and a beltpouch which I like. It even fits sideways in it. I use it mostly for birding and it works pretty well for that.

Very sharp optics. The field of view is a little narrow, but should work fine for bird and animal identification up here in Alaska. Very solid and compact, easy to carry.

This is a very good product at an unbeatable price. I compared to Vortex HD Diamondback 8x32 and found little difference except in price (it costs triple). Maybe Diamondback is a hair sharper, but barely. This model has been discontinued by Athlon which is probably why it's on such a deep discount, but I called Athlon and they will honor their lifetime warranty. If anything happens to it, you will get the updated version as replacement! So I recommend this pair of bins for casual birders. I also like the 8x32 size because it's smaller and compact. It's not quite as light as the diamondback, but only a couple ounces heavier. It may not have all the new bells and whistles, but I don't think you'll miss them. If you're looking for good value, you will get it. One thing - I did have to return the first pair I got because the focus on the right eye was stuck. I had no problem exchanging it.
