Celestron HD Pro Wedge for 11" Telescope

I added to my CPC and it's a whole new ball game. The wedge for me completes my set up. Heavy duty is right. Smooth to adjust and a great addition. A big fan of equatorial fork mounts .

Wedge is a little larger than I thought... Very heavy duty. Fairly easy to set up. Directions did not come out and actually tell you which in is the front... only reference was a mounting bolt hole? It does tell you which side is East & West. Can hardly wait til Dark!! Light 24/7 in Fairbanks, Alaska until late July :-{

The Celestron hevy duty wedge was selected along with the heavy duty CPC 1100 tripod to replace the Wedgepod that accompanied the Celestar 8 that I purchased 20 years ago. This wedge is a great improvement allowing solid support of the telescope and greatly simplifying the process of polar alignment. The only criticism is the layout of the latitude adjustment knob and screw. The placement of this structure prohibits the standard placement of the Tuthill Precision Polar Axis Finder. I had to devise a workaround for this issue. Otherwise the wedge offers a highly stable mount for the telescope along with easy to use latitude and azimuth adjustments.

I've used just about every type of wedge including the old huge C14 model and the very heavy duty Milburn Wedges. This model is now my favorite for Celestron scopes. I am using this with a new C11 Edge and there is no noticeable flexure and the altitude and azimuth adjustments are very easy. The altitude adjuster does bind a little bit but it does not detract from usabiliy. One nice touch is that the wedge plate has notches to catch and orient the scopes' drive base, making it much easier when mounting a heavy scope. This feature alone puts this wedge slightly ahead of my Milburn wedge. The Milburn wedge has adjusters which are a bit smoother than this one. One thing I noticed is that the scope seems a bit back heavy with this wedge in place. This is a bit aggravated by the C11 tripod having a somewhat narrower stance than any of my other Meade or Celestron tripods when at its lowest height.

This is a very strong wedge, it keeps your scope steady...it's also very heavy.
