The glass snaps in very tightly to the image and the backing cardboard. A thin paper matte would work if it were not too thick.CLARE P : It depends (how thick is the photo & matte): The frame has a thin piece of card backing. On top of that goes your photo & the piece of glass that is pushed into the plastic frame. With the glass & backing in there is approx. 1/16" of room for a photo & matte. If you take the thin cardboard backing out you gain a tad bit more of room. If your photo & matte is only 1/16" thick you should be fine. I have never tried it w/ a matte but the frame is plastic & you may be able to squeeze a little thicker depth than 1/16". Keep in mind it may prevent the glass from staying in. The glass is only held in by a slight protrusion of plastic that juts out around all the edges. The glass snaps into the frame. Really the only matte you could use is the thickness of thick printer paper.CAROL O : I'm not sure about a mat in the frame. This doesn't have a PLASTIC sheet protecting the photo/object but it actually has a GLASS cover.
For the price...this has been a great little picture frame. It is relatively inexpensive black, simple plastic frame with a glass cover. The glass "pops" out of the frame from the front (you have to manually manipulate the frame to get the glass to 'release'....so it doesn't just fall out) permitting ready access to the photo/object from the front.
The frames are decent looking for a simple, inexpensive picture frame and the glass "cover" adds to the impression that this is a reasonable quality object. However, it is plastic....so if you drop it, the exterior frame is likely to crack or break.
We were looking for inexpensive (disposable) frames that were casual and had a nice quality. THIS DEFINITELY HIT THE MARK FOR US!! It is a black plastic frame that has a slot for a screw to mount it to the wall & it also has a plastic stand that you can snap off the frame to use to display on a surface top (desk etc.). A 5x7 piece of glass pushes into the frame to cover the object being framed.JUDITH R : The frame contains a piece of glass which covers the photo or artwork.MARK O : The object being framed is covered by glass, not a plastic sheet. Nice Low-key Frame
Simple but handsome in a minimalist way. Nice understated way to frame (and protect) standard 8.5 x 11 documents without having to cut them down to fit in 8 x 10 frames. Easy to push glass in and out to insert document. The hole on the back makes it easy to hang on a nail. Also comes with plastic pieces to support the frame standing up, which takes a bit of figuring out.

I liked the look of this a lot, but the quality wasn't great. It was slightly cracked when we got it but not enough for me to go back and get a new one. Good for the price, but probably won't last long.

Two frames.
The frames are actually nice and it looks good hung up. But it took about 3 months to get and when I finally received both of my frames. One of them was chipped.

Good Frames, great price
I love the MCS frames because they are functional at a great price. I frame and hang a lot of my scenic photos and I dont care about fancy frames, its the photo that counts. MCS frames are perfect for my use, fully functional, easy and minimalist in display. The price of these frames is very good as well.

Good for the money
Clean contemporary look, great bang for the buck. Perfect for awards, certificates, and plaques. I happily use many a year for that purpose. After using these for many years I've learned that you have to handle them very carefully to reduce chipping the thin plastic edges when you flex the frame to put the glass in and out. Sometimes the frames come pre-chipped from the factory but the design is such that it is ususlly not too noticable. Plan on washing a hazy film off of the glass before use. Occasionally the glass has small scratches on it. These are perfect for their price and generic use but should not be confused as a a proper display for your best photos or art work.

Great frames for 4 x 6 photos or most postcards (with a little trimming). Easy to hang and fill, highly recommend as a budget option, especially because the glass is real! Also, these were cheaper than Amazon, and pickup from Adorama was fast and easy! Can't ask for a better option.

durable, inexpensive, look good
These were a good price (best I could find, even with shipping) and exactly what I needed: a frame with no border I could hang on the wall. The shipping box was open and pretty beat up, but the frames were fine. I bought so many that they were boxed in groups of 6 inside a bigger box.

5 stars i have been using these frames for several yrs and recommend them all the time … i adore the simplicity of them … they allow the photograph to take center stage . i actually print on expensive archival paper and use these frames all the time … it allows me to create a story wall where people notice the images … i use sizes 4 x 6 , 5 x 7 , 8.5 x 11, 11 x 17 , 13 x 19

Awesomeness photo frames
This is a excellent product o have these frames all over my house with family and friends photos and those special peoples in my life and I have a whole wall full of them with my furry friends you could have them at a great price affordable strong and they will last forever and most of all they look great on your walls or whenever you want to place them I recommend this product to everyone that still hang photos on their wall I know with technology you have on your phone but there is nothing better than to look at them everyday than been hidden in your phone I strongly recommend

I loved the frames when they came in, the pictures were fairly easy to install and looked great in the minimalist frame. One of them came a little chipped though but the customer service rep was extremely helpful and their response was amazing.
MCS Classic Format frames are simple to use and easy to hang. To put your picture in the thin edged frame, you just pop out the smooth trimmed glass, insert you picture and pop the glass back in the frame. The frame has molded openings in the back so you can mount the frame either vertical or horizontal. Our most popular picture frame of all time, the format frame is always in fashion and is always the right price.
