The Hoya SOLAS IRND filters are uniquely designed to maintain a neutral color rendition throughout their entire density range, from 0.3 to 3.0. They also take into account the impact of IR (Infrared) light on color, a factor often overlooked by other ND filters.
The SOLAS IRND filters address these issues by reducing the amount of light entering the camera, allowing for wider apertures or longer shutter speeds in bright conditions. They also suppress IR across red, near-IR, and IR areas of the spectrum to prevent color casting.
The Hoya SOLAS IRND filters come in densities of .3, .6, .9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.7, and 3.0. This offers 1~6 plus 9 and 10 stops light reduction while maintaining a neutral color balance.
The SOLAS series uses the latest ND materials and IR suppression to maintain a neutral color balance that is consistent in every density throughout the range.

The filter works beautifully. I recently dove into the video editing realm and found this ND filter to be quite useful. Now I realize I should also get a 3-stop, the 6-stop filter is too powerful for indoor use.

The filter is well made. It is effective for IR landscape photography to include waterfalls. I did not notice any color shift when using this filter.

It's no secret that the Hoya SOLAS IRND filters are a game-changer in the world of photography. Crafted with the most advanced materials and utilizing superior Japanese manufacturing techniques, these filters ensure a consistently neutral color rendition across their entire density range of 0.3 to 3.0. Unlike many ND filters on the market, the SOLAS IRND filters take into account the impact of IR (Infrared) light on color, a critical factor often overlooked by others.
As digital imaging sensors evolve to become increasingly light-sensitive, they also become more prone to overexposure and heightened sensitivity to infrared light. To counteract these sensor issues, Hoya introduced the SOLAS line of IRND filters. Available in densities of .3, .6, .9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.7, and 3.0, these filters offer 1~6 plus 9 and 10 stops light reduction, all while maintaining an impressively neutral color balance.
The Hoya SOLAS IRND filters are not just about reducing the amount of light entering the camera. They also allow photographers to use extremely wide apertures or very long shutter speeds in bright lighting conditions. Unlike conventional ND filters that often exhibit a transmission spike in the near-infrared (also known as High Red) area of the color spectrum, leading to color casting, the SOLAS IRND filters are engineered to suppress IR evenly across red, near-IR, and IR areas of the spectrum. This prevents any spectrum spikes that could potentially add a color cast to the image.
Thanks to the use of the latest ND materials and IR suppression, the SOLAS series maintains a neutral color balance that is consistent in every density throughout the range. The Hoya SOLAS filters are available in standard sizes from 46mm to 82mm, making them a versatile choice for photographers of all genres.
