Generally I love it. Easy to use and I love the 4 frames per second for action. Down side is I cannot find how to set it to record both .raw and .jpg even though I follow the directions. And the lens cap fell off and got lost on my first outing.

I've had the SX-1 IS for about 6 months now and I am still ecstatic about it! Quick user interface and auto settings usually provide great results when there is not time to customize the shot. My girlfriend has also really taken a liking in my camera, borrowing all the time now...The picture quality is excellent, even at the highest optical zoom setting (20x), the image stabilization is also great when taking hald-held shots at high zoom levels.I usually shoot stills at 1600x1200 unless I plan to print a portrait, and the playback of 1920x1080p videos setting is truly spectacular on my HD monitor and stereo speakers.I can't get into all of the details here, but needless to say, I would highly recommend this model to anyone who wants excellent quality, start-up speed, videos and capacity, and does not mind the nearly SLR size of the camera. In talking to many of my friends with DSLR's, I can honesty say that I got the better deal with the SX1-IS - far more flexibility built in, without the need to purchase (and keep on hand) numerous expensive zoom lenses. My only complaints would be during low-light shooting without a tripod, when shots at or above 200 ISO begin to look noisy and lose color quickly.Overall, the battery run-time with NiMh's is excellent and the ability to use alkaline AA's if necessary is also nice.I bought the package from Adorama with cam, case, NiMh's and charger, lens cleaning kit and 8Gb card. I could not be happier with the kit, the pricing [...] from Adorama. While the included 'toy-sized' tripod looks inadequate, it has come in handy a number of times, fully supports the camera and also fits in the soft-case.

I use this camera for everyday family shots and also for car racing pictures. The extended tele is great for the car races. The HD video is a real plus and I am very interested in working with RAW files. I have had this camera for only two weeks and have not taken enough pictures to comment on the CMOS sensor noise or lack of noise, but the photos so far have been very good (mostly shooting in Auto). I have tried the manual modes and find it somewhat cumbersome; my frame of reference is a old SLR film camera (film speed , shutter speed, f-stop, depth of field ='s happy photographer). Anyway, whit more experience, I hope to be able to rapidly and accurately change the manual exposure parameters. To maximize the capabilities of this camera, my recommendation read the manual and practice.
