Luis T : Why does the interior move when the lens is not attached to the camera?DANILO C : Is the stabilizing feature on the lens. if it was solid a stiff like the old lenses you would get all that motion blur when taking the picture. Pretend like there is a mini gimbal holding the lens inside the housing. If you shake hard you can hear it. Non the less that loose feeling in the lens is feature to get sharper photos is not a defect.JOHNNIE L : The lens has "floating elements" which means that when the lens (camera) is switched off (or removed from the camera) you can feel some of the glass elements moving when you tilt or move the lens forwards or backwards. This is nothing to worry about, as these move into the correct position when you switch the camera on, and they make up the "focus group" which Sony call large. The lens uses two XD (eXtreme Dynamic) Linear Motors to drive the AF system and to move the "large focus group."Justin A : Sony’s new linear focus system. Have used this once or twice and the results are very sharp in the centre, but the corners do lag behind, hence the 4 stars instead of 5! Distortion is quite well controlled providing you are not too close to your subject.

I bought this lens about 3 weeks ago and I am very pleased it's wide but not too wide. I used it for landscape photography at Kew Gardens never changed the lens once for a whole day shoot really pleased

It's not budget, but it is value

This lens is fantastic. It's small, sharp as you're want, quick af. It's very expensive for a non gym prime, but it probably could have been a gm lens. If you want a uwa and don't rely on absurdly wide for dramatic impact, or if you want to do Astro without spending thousands on a lens, this is a great shout. It's my favourite wonky lens, and unfortunately the only one without significant flaws (35 1.8 is good for the price, but flawed). If you're on the fence I'd take this over the 16-35pz, this lens has a wow factor that the ox just doesn't have. I'm in the process of selling every other Sony branded lens(to buy one gm and pair it with some third party) and will keep this one, it's a gem. I wish Sony made other non gm lenses that were at least somewhat in the realm of affordable like this one, and weren't so terribly flawed.

Outstanding images

I've been using his about a month now and am very impressed. I was looking for a multipurpose wide angle for Astro photography that would also be useful for landscape and am very happy with this lens. 20mm is a good sweet spot between the ultra wide 14 and the somewhat 24mm. This lens does outperform the 24mm gm in terms of sharpness. Distortion is minimal, handles flare very well and little to no fringing. Perfect lens for 2 prime lens backcountry travel. This and the 55 1.8 is an extremely lightweight and compact combo.

New To Sony

Let me preface this by saying that I'm new to the Sony ecosystem? this lens is incredibly impressive. Sharp and allows great detail. I wasn't sure how I'd like the manual aperture ring but I fell right in line with it naturally and haven't used the in camera aperture adjustment since. This lens is great for landscape but what I'm really surprised about is how close you can get and the detail it produces when you do. I definitely recommend this lens.

Comparitive with Sony 24mm F1 8 za is not as sharp but nearly there. The Len can gather alot light, sometime it over exposed the image. The form factor balance with my hand profile. Still learning to the characteristic of this Len.

Excellent lens!

I bought this lens last year after acquiring the my A7C. The 20mm f1.8 is outstanding particular for indoor limited light use. I personally dislike using flashes under any circumstances as it proves difficult to adjust (for me) even in post. This lens gives me the freedom to use it for limited light situations and still achieve great results.

Sony FE 20mm F1.8 G Full Frame E-Mount Lens

The all-new FE 20mm F1.8 G Full Frame E-Mount Lens from Sony is a versatile lens that was specially designed for still and movie shooting scenarios. It possesses an advanced optical design, including two AA (advanced aspherical) elements that are seamlessly supported by a sophisticated mechanical system in a G lens. Weighing just 13.2 oz (373 g), this lens can be paired with compact E-mount bodies for use on gimbals and accessory grips. Users will enjoy exceptional corner-to-corner resolution from the lens’ widest aperture (F1.8). As a result of the precise control of spherical aberration and the nine-blade circular aperture, bokeh quality is naturalistic and of the highest quality. The resulting bokeh also has natural-looking highlights. The Sony FE 20mm F1.8 G Full Frame E-Mount Lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.63 ft (0.19 m) when used in AF mode and 0.59 ft (0.18 m) when focused manually. An advanced optical design that includes two AA elements is supported by a refined mechanical system in a G Lens that weighs just 13.2 oz (373 g). Small size and light weight enhance mobility when used with compact E-mount bodies, and make up a well-balanced system that is ideal for use on gimbals or accessory grips. The FE 20 mm F1.8 G is a versatile lens for a wide variety of still and movie shooting situations.

Two XD (eXtreme Dynamic) Linear Motors easily keep up with the high-speed capabilities of today's most advanced camera bodies, taking advantage of their full autofocus speed, precision, and tracking potential to capture the most dynamic subjects. New control algorithms make it possible to drive the lens's large focus group smoothly and without delays for responsive, silent, low-vibration autofocus.

In addition to the fact that 20 mm is a great focal length for selfies, this lens has a minimum focusing distance of just 0.63 ft (0.19 m) when used in AF mode, and an even closer 0.59 ft (0.18 m) minimum focusing distance when focused manually. It is an excellent choice for gimbal/grip mounting, whether shooting selfies or other subjects.

A focus hold button, focus mode switch, aperture ring and other controls are designed and positioned for easy operation and a smooth workflow. Alternative functions that support the user's individual shooting needs can be assigned to the focus hold button via camera body menu settings. The front lens element is fluorine-coated to repel water and grime, and the lens' dust- and moisture-resistant design1 provides the reliability needed for outdoor use in challenging conditions.
