I've now been using this camera for a year and am delighted with the quality of picture I can get. I do have some prime lenses, (35mm and 20 mm), but find the kit lens (16-50mm) very good, certainly up to A4 size print. I've added a 40.5-49 mm step up adaptor so I only need one set of filters. My one disappointment is the LCD display, which can be difficult to see properly in some light conditions.

I bought the Nex 6, with 'only' 16 megapixels, because this gives greater bit depth than a 24 meg. version of the same sensor. First shots, taken on a bright October afternoon, show the excellent colour rendition and the high dynamic range that I had hoped for. However, now that I wish to go further than the kit lens will allow, I find the choice of E mount lenses somewhat limited and the price of the adapter for A mount lenses downright extortionate. Instead of charging a premium, Sony should be selling the adapter as a loss-leader.

I'm don't happy for this product Sony NEX-6. The poor quality of the lens, within 4 months of twice will send in the warranty. The leaves are a poor dervish in my country for a long time waiting for repair.

The camera replaced a much chunkier DSLR from a different manufacturer that did not have built in Image Stabilisation. I gave up taking it out as it was just too much hassle and the photos I took with it were often disappointing. I don't do anything fancy, I take pictures on holiday and at family events so in several different lights. The NEX-6 copes with everything I want it for and I can throw it in my bag to take anywhere. I can hold it in one hand (with a glass in the other) and still take great photos. I know that those of you that take a more professional approach would be horrified at this review as just set the camera to automatic and off I go. Downloading is simple and fast. I connect by the wifi to my iPad while I'm away from home to make sure I have all the photo's backed up, and then upload to my iMac when I return from my travels. I love my NEX-6!!

I bought it in December 2013. The camera is great for my use. I am a large scale muralist and lugging around any more weight than paint is too much. Nex-6 offers superb quality and is compact and lightweight. Really good at taking pictures at low-light too. I often finish my murals late in the day and I'm not able to return to it at a different time. The video quality is breath-taking. I also purchased the remote control for the shutter. Works magic. NEX-6 allows me to produce high quality content for all social media and self promotion, which as a visual artist puts me well ahead of the pack. If you want your media content look professional NEX-6 is the answer. However, the WIFi technology is defunct. I have always failed sync my Samsung S3 with NEX-6. Sadly it never worked. It should have NFC technology. I know that the other models have it already but I had to compromise because I really wanted the view finder and the price. Also one more feature that is underdeveloped is the LCD display. If it swivelled fully to be able to see the frame when facing the camera, it would make this model absolutely perfect. LCD only retracts slightly which is only somewhat helpful. Otherwise NEX-6 is truly a great camera. I know that in the future I will stay with NEX series.

I bought this camera to use when I could not be bothered to carry my heavy digital SLR. I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the results are. It does not do everything that the SLR can but it is a great second camera. I particularly like the panoramic function and the time lapse app.

I've had this camera for about 12 months and have taken some great photos with it. I added an extra telephoto lens after about 6 months so framing of the subjects I want is really easy - and interchanging the lenses is a doodle. All the features work really well even though working your way through them is not as simple as it could be but in general, I'd certainly recommend this model to anyone after a compact systems camera.

I purchased my camera about 6 months ago so I've had plenty of time to test it. I have a few lenses - The kit lens, macro, 50mm, 30mm, 16mm (fisheye and wide attachments) 18-55 and the 55-210 tele. All good lenses and all have their merits. I love the DMF (auto focus and manual tweeking) the zoom in when you manually focus allows for super sharp focus. Size and weight are plus points too.... Mates DSLRs are far too heavy for my liking. My only gripe.... the bonding has eased off on the screen. It comes away slightly in the bottom left corner. I have not yet had chance to get this remedied. How can I be without a camera in summer!? Generally very pleased with it. Not posting pictures cause I will not give Sony the rights to my work. Silly thing to insist upon. I would have happily posted if you let me keep the rights to my work.

Took this CSC instead of high spec DSLR on 5 week trip to Japan & Australia. Very pleased with pic quality, low weight and compact size. Mainly used with 16-50 but glad I also took 55 - 200 for occasional shots. Dynamic range options used extensively and saved lots of post capture processing time. Menu system took time to master but most options I wanted to use were found eventually.

I bought this camera 5 months ago after doing quite a bit of research. I was originally looking for a DSLR after using friends, but then a sales man recommended this as he had one. I read all the reviews on the internet and decided to buy one. I am so pleased I did, I've had some brilliant results with it. It produces very good results with Intelligent Auto, but equally is easy to use in manual or semi manual modes ( Aperture priority, Shutter priority modes). It has some great "clever" effects like b/w with single colour showing. It also has wifi connectivity, although I've not used it. I've taken over 1500 photos since buying and the quality is very good. The camera is small and light, but feels very sturdy having a metal body, it it looks quality too.

I've had the nex6 for about 6 months now, with the sigma 30 mm f2.8 on it most of the time. They make a great pair, and are excellent value. This camera probably suits someone with a bit of photographic experience who wants to build up more. It works ok as a point and shoot with the kit lens, but in its semi auto and guided manual modes it really comes into its own for some one wanting to explore the medium. It is light and comfortable to hold, far more discreet and less intimidating than a fat mid range SLR, with comparable IQ, so its great for travelling, and family snaps as well. It looks cool too. There is a bit of learning curve with its menu system, assignable function keys and downloadable apps, but they expand the camera's capabilities, and the user 's.

I brought this camera a few months ago and am very pleased with it. It handles low light well and I use it in the manual mode for certain shots where I need clear shots and close up in low light. I have purchased some of the Apps, which I also use to create brighter images. Good strong camera would recommend this to any photographer who wanted to get away from the Auto mode for every shot.

i was looking for a SLR quality camera but didn't see the point or need for a mirror. My budget couldn't stretch to the full frame mirrorless models out there, but retrospectively, this is a good thing, as the sensor on this is big enough for my purposes and the camera nice and compact (with digital zoom Sony 16-50mm kit lens). I especially like the high quality electronic view finder - much better than other I have used. I also like the main controls, although the menus can get a bit fiddly for some settings.

This is a pretty good substitute when you don't want the bulk of your DSLR and, with the 16-50mm lens is just about as compact as an APS-C mirrorless camera gets. The EVF is pretty impressive and a boon for video in bright daylight compared to live view on a DSLR. Also, compared to even high end compacts, the image quality is very good, mostly because of the large sensor. The menus are a bit fiddly and the WIFI isn't as useful or useable as I had hoped, in fact it's pretty poorly implemented mostly because of Sony's walled garden approach, which is a real missed opportunity. It would have been simpler just to make it a network discoverable device - or use an already existing infrastucture/ service or OS that works. Even to get the limited benefits offered required me to register twice, download and install software and do some configuring, not much was immediately obvious or clear and was a complete pain.

...I had noticed a lot of blog chatter regarding the Nex-6...now I know why... one of the best APS-c sensors, perfect size, great handling, pocketable with a pancake, Nex menu system (easy ), off camera flash capable (works great with Pixel King TTL Triggers), very good in the studio... the ONLY neg I can come up with is that the E-mount System does not have the abundance and depth of the micro 4/3 system lens... that's really about it ! ...I have 2 Nex-6 ... 'nuff said !

I'm using this camera for travel and general picture-taking. Although it's not an SLR, It has many or all of the functions of one, without the big size and price. The only thing I don't like about it is I'm constantly feeling like I'm going to lose the lense cover, as it's small and doesn't have a strap attachment. I'm hoping I can find some way to fix that before my next outing.

Travel to trade shows over the past three weeks, great for people, outdoor & indoor landscape. Easy to change out lense and compact enough to be able to bring along. AutoFocus can get itself a little confused at times.

NEX 6 - This was unexpected purchase after researching the way to move up from the P&S format. When Sony introduced compact RX100 with 1" sensor, I was inspired to get it, until I found out that it has equivalent of 29mm on the wide end of its fixed zoom lens. 24mm is the minimum for me these days. Still, once inspired, I did not want to give up moving up to the larger sensor. Researching how else to do it without bulking up I quickly bypassed Nikon's 1" system, spent a while researching 4/3"...

The Sony NEX-6 is a fast-focusing, more compact competitor to starter DSLRs with familiar DSLR-type operation and a range of features designed to appeal to experienced photographers looking for a responsive compact digital camera system, as well as to beginners who want the image quality and flexibility of an interchangeable-lens camera with a 16MP APS sensor that is known to deliver outstanding image quality. The NEX-6 is the second Sony NEX series camera to feature WiFi - the first, the Sony NEX-5R will use the just-announced PlayMemories Camera Apps.
Sony NEX-6 Key Features
16MP APS-C Sensor
10fps burst rate
Full HD video
Hybrid contrast/phase detect
AF system with claimed DSLR speed XGA
OLED optical viewfinder
Wi-Fi and downloadable camera apps
Quick Navi controls said to offer DSLR-like operation
Multi-interface Smart Accessory Shoe for flash, GPS, more
11 Picture Effects for stills and videos Photo Creativity mode
With the introduction of the Sony NEX-6, Sony has created a new high-end-enthusiast camera that is just a step below the prosumer-level Sony NEX-7 and should appeal to serious photographers who seek a compact camera capable of taking high-quality images while providing a DSLR-like experience. The Sony NEX-6 features a 16.1MP sensor-the same highly-rated sensor found on many of today's highest-rated APS sensor DSLRs, but somewhat lower resolution than the Sony NEX-7-as well as an eye-level, 2 .4 million dot resolution OLED viewfinder.
A Closer Look at the Sony NEX-6's features
Let's take a closer look at the Sony NEX-6, based on information provided by Sony.
Responsiveness: Sony claims the Sony NEX-6's Fast Hybrid AF, which combines Phase Detection and Contrast Detection Autofocus, will deliver faster autofocusing (although Sony does not claim a specific lag time), while the camera's imaging engine is said to provide 10fps burst rate at full resolution.
Autofocus: In addition to natively fast autofocus, the Sony NEX-6 offers Intelligent Autofocus, where the camera pre-focuses as you compose the shot, further reducing lag time by eliminating the wait for focus acquisition. In addition, Tracking Focus continuously tracks a user-designated subject; Sony says it has improved this feature so it is now more effective at tracking people. If the subject turns away from the camera, face-detection tracking automatically switches to subject tracking and continues tracking.
Manual focus: Sony has a couple of helpful features for those who prefer to focus manually. Peaking AF highlights the edges that are in focus in the user's choice of three colors (white, red, or yellow). This is especially helpful during macro or portrait photography where the focal plane can make or break your shot. Manual Focus Assist greatly magnifies the viewfinder image when you touch the focus ring. This feature only works with E-mount lenses.
Ergonomics: A Mode control dial and Quick Navi are said to assure quick and intuitive operation that Sony says is comparable to DSLR cameras. Control dial, Fn (function) button and touch screen (including touch shutter function) are available. The Sony NEX-6 features a newly developed Multi-Interface Shoe that dramatically expands compatibility via Handycam accessories for both still and video, all of which will be available from Adorama.
Flash: A modest built-in Guide Number 6 flash is located on the camera's top plate. It can be used in a pinch for dimly lit settings, or as a fill flash when shooting in bright sunshine or to produce catch lights in portraits. While the flash's power is low, that might be OK when shooting ISO 2500.
Video: The Sony NEX-6 captures full HD movies at 60p, 60i or 24p cinematic frame rates, all at full 1920x1080 resolution. Images are recorded in AVCHD or MP4 codecs.
Cool tech features
Sony is always on the bleeding edge of technology, and the Sony NEX-6 deploys several features designed to improve images or add special effects:
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi connectivity lets users transfer photos directly to smartphones and tablets with the PlayMemories Mobile appPhotos can be easily transferred to smartphones and tablets, viewed on large screen TVs or saved to PC's.
Auto HDR: The Sony NEX-6's High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography captures mode more scene contrast than a single exposure can handle by combining the best highlight detail from one shot and the best shadow detail from another. The NEX-6's Auto HDR handles severe backlighting and other high-contrast scenes by capturing three images in a split second and combining them in-camera.
6-Image Layering: The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second, then combines the data from the 6 different images (up to ISO 25,600) to create a single image. This method is used to control blur in Anti-Motion Blur mode or to get cleaner, sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode.
Sweep Panorama: This mode lets you capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep the vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together for up to 23MP images at up to 202 degrees, the equivalent of a 16mm focal length.
Exposure modes: In addition to Program, Aperture, Shutter and Manual modes, and a Photo Creativity Interface, which translates the above into more beginner-friendly terms (Background Defocus, Brightness, Color, Vividness and most Picture Effects.) the NEX-6 offers six creative modes: Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset and B&W as well as the ability to fine-tune contrast, saturation, and sharpness to your personal taste. 11 Picture Effect modes are: Posterization (Color, B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), Soft High-key, High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera (Normal, Cool, Warm, Green, Magenta), Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature.
Summary and recommendation
The Sony NEX-6 seeks the sweet spot between serious (and, for many, unaffordable) compact camera and a camera that will deliver high-end responsiveness and quality at an enthusiast price. While we can't wait to get our hands on this new model, the first impressions are that it will meet the goals set by Sony and that it merits serious consideration.
