The "Only" machine for Professionals

The ThinkPad series from Lenovo has been the only real option and the most sought after laptop for professionals across the globe. Built like a tank, it's primary objectives seem to be productivity and security. It works like a charm out of the box, as if it's just meant to be there. Even the MS office suite that's an essential for professionals works its best in the ThinkPad series, compared to any other brand. The X1 Carbon is the real jewel in this series, which manages to cram in all the necessary hardware into this amazingly thin and light weight form factor. It doesn't even compromise on peripherals, with enough usb and even an HDMI port for your presentations. Compare this to other brands in the similar ultrabook category that require a dongle to be carried around for similar functionalities. In essence, it's bang for your bucks and a necessity of you are a professional.

Black screen of death after 9 days. Had to return

After nine days, the laptop was stuck in sleep mode, there was nothing I could do to fix it. I actually returned it. And will never buy a Lenovo again.

Great buy but....

Bought the laptop from Amazon last week and it was a great buy. The item works very well and love its ultra slim body. The only minus is that it's kind of pricey and the key pad is not as glossy as Thinkpad. However, it is a Fantastic product.

Light and fast

I had no idea that Lenovo had a refurbished division. If I'd known that I would have been buying from them for years. The X1 Carbon I purchased from them was in excellent condition. I can't wait to get my next machine from them.

Poor Performance

I purchased a X1 Yoga few months ago. Frankly the worst decision ever. My 5 Year old Dell XPS 13 was much faster than this. I'm a solution architect working for IT over 15 years. re-installed the machine twise. The machine struggles with even few apps open. Feature wise no complans, Well Built Machine. But performance as I said befre is horrible

Horrible Performance

I was excited about this laptop at first because of the size and processing power of an i7 with 16GB of RAM. However, after running this laptop for a few months, I've found that the simplest task put a severe strain on the system and ultimately bring it to a crawl. Running a screen share, powerpoint and video inside the powerpoint crush the system. The system also seems to have issues supporting an external monitor. As soon I attach one the performance also takes a hit. Simple tasks like clicking the start button having drastic delays. If you need a very basic laptop for day to day internet surfing, you would probably be fine.

Exceeds expectations

My Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is everything I expected it to be. It was very easy to set up, from initialization to loading applications and connecting to e-mail and our wireless printer.

Best laptop I've ever owned!

I got a fully loaded X1 Carbon and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The specs are great, the build quality is superb and the size and weight are exactly what I wanted. The screen is crisp and I love typing on the keyboard. I even managed to get it on sale for a few hundred dollars less than usual making it a pretty good value. The only negative remark I'll give this laptop is that in the right lighting, the trackpad shows significant wear less than a year after purchase. It still works fine and isn't that noticable in low light, it's just something worth mentioning.

Expensive but good performance laptop

I bought this laptop about month ago. I was user of first generation of X1 carbon and I was really happy with that expect top function keys row which was not working well sometimes. So I decided to buy new X1 carbon. What I like: 1. Keyboard - perfect typing. 2. Dislay - perfect in any condition 3. Speed - excellent performance using Win 10 PRO, all apps runs smooth and fast. 4. Weight - super light. 5. Super fast finger scan. What I do not like 1. Resolution of Mini DP port is low for external monitor. 2. Top cover - easy visible dirt once your hands are not 100% clean. 3. Plastics located on the left and right side of the touch pad are not so good, once I knock with finger on it it sounds very cheap, not good quality. 4. It happened few times that after laptop wake up, I could not find mouse cursor immediately .. it took few seconds till cursor appeared. 5. Keyboard - FN key is completely in left bottom corner rather than Ctrl .. that was and still is sometimes problem for me.. I also prefer to have bigger ENTER key as on the old models. Arrow keys are noisy comparing to old model.

Not sturdy!

I bought this laptop on November. I am satisfied with the performance. But a crack appeared on top even though I have been treating the laptop with care. There is also a gap between the lid and the body when closed. In total, the body does not seem very durable. Also, the battery is very disappointing. it's not competitive even to mediocre laptops in the market.

Solid Ultralight Business Laptop

If you need a compact, high-performance ultralight business laptop this is the one for you. I find the battery life to be average at best. Obviously the cost is high, purchased during Thanksgiving / Black Friday and received serious discount. Will have this laptop for at least 5 years.

Best business laptop!

I just opened my first business after 28 years in corporate america and 1 thing I've taken from that experience is you just can't beat Thinkpad quality. This X1 is outstanding! Lightweight, durable, and packed with the capacity and power we need.

Support?

I purchased an x-1 carbon for myself and three members of the family. When they work they are great. Mine had problems and failed. I had problems getting support even though I had purchased the next business day warranty So far it has been 7+ weeks without a functioning computer. Many calls and letters haven't resolved things. If the machine doesn't run it doesn't rank well.

Not reliable at all!

Not reliable at all. Also, where is my refund (for another Lenovo product)? It's almost 3 months but Lenovo neither sent back the product nor gave me any refund. Called to the post sales service and I am tired. They say different things at different times. Don't have any logs. Ridiculous!

Fantastic everyday computer

I bought this to replace my home desktop, as well as to use on the road (power and portability. The X1 carbon is more than capable of running the programs I use most, including some substantial image analysis software, and is easy to pack up and travel with. Great keyboard, screen, and more than enough USB ports to power all my accessories.

Impressive Look, Feel, and Performance

I was looking for a new light weight, well built laptop that still had performance and had a lot of nice features. I so glad that I decided to go with the X1 Carbon. It is unbelievably thin and light (2.6 lbs), yet has the display real estate of a nice monitor and performance close to that of a desktop. I'm very impressed with the build quality and display color range. I'm still tweaking the settings, but overall a great buy. Lenovo also provides is own utilities that help in more circumstances. The only downside is that the underside can get warm depending upon what you are doing and your power settings. I will look into limiting maximum CPU to keep the temp down when using battery.

Great laptop!

This is my 2nd ThinkPad X1. I was so pleased with the first, that when I decided to look for more speed and capacity, Lenovo was the first and only placed I looked. I find this computer to be very fast, and while it took me a little while to adjust to Windows 10, it is everything I need and more!

Light and Powerful

I have been using computers in business for decades - so long that I still think of the competing systems as IBM and Apple. Was using an Apple product but never could get the hang of it. After a lot of research, I switched to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, 4th gen with Windows 10 Pro/64 bit, 16gb RAM/512gb memory. I am at home again. I know where to find files without thinking about it. The unit handles any graphics processing (Photoshop + desktop publishing) easily. I like the keyboard. I am one of the people who like the pointing stick, and I think the keyboard is right up there with the best for feel. Best of all, it's incredibly light, allowing easy travel - I barely notice it's in my briefcase. I can lift it with one hand, easily. Finally, the screen is perfect for my use. Highly recommended.

Good machine, buggier than earlier versions. Friend had to replace hard drive on his already and it's only three months old.

SYS ADMIN workhorse!

I am a Network Admin who manages several different locations. I was looking for something very portable yet powerful enough to handle multiple task at once. I was not disappointed! Suited out with an SSD and all available RAM upgrades makes for a smooth boot and operation. Also went ahead and Got the Lenovo Case made for the X1 and it has a clean professional look and is very functional as well! Kudos to Lenovo for putting together a great product with "us" in mind!

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Specifications

About Lenovo ThinkPad X1

ThinkPad X1 Carbon

World's Lightest 14" Business Ultrabook

Ultrathin. Ultralight. Ultratough. For the average Ultrabook these attributes may sound like a contradiction. But the new X1 Carbon is far above average. It features a carbon-fiber reinforced chassis and passes durability tests in extreme environments. Plus, it delivers more than all-day battery life, includes faster, more powerful storage performance, and has innovative docking options available, including wireless.

Uncompromisingly Thin & Light...

Weighing only 2.6 lbs (1.18 kg), the new X1 Carbon is the lightest 14-inch business Ultrabook on the planet. And at just 0.65 inch (16.5 mm) thin, it's extremely portable.

MIL-SPEC Tough

Constructed with satellite-grade carbon fiber, the new X1 Carbon is the toughest ThinkPad ever made. In fact, Lenovo performs nearly a dozen separate military-grade specification tests-all under extreme conditions with dust, vibration, heat, cold, altitude, humidity, solar radiation, and fungus. You can rely on ThinkPad despite what life throws your way.

And of course, the full-sized, backlit keyboard is spill-resistant, as you'd expect from a ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

The military specification tests are not intended to be a guarantee of performance under these environmental conditions.

Powerful Performance

The new X1 Carbon features a Windows Pro operating system and 6th generation with vPro-that means lots of manageability features and enhanced security. And of course the X1 Carbon is Skype for Business-certified, includes integrated speakers with Dolby audio, and an HD webcam, so conference calls and video chats are a snap.

Extra Security

Because your data is critical, we've enhanced security to keep you safer than ever. The X1 Carbon includes the Touch Sensor Fingerprint Reader, which is more reliable and accurate than typical swipe readers. Plus, this Ultrabook also includes Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which is a specialized chip designed to secure hardware.

But Stay Unplugged

With the X1 Carbon, you can stay connected, yet go unplugged more than all day, as the battery lasts up to 10 hours.

(10 hours - Based on testing three different product configurations with MobileMark 2014. Battery life varies significantly with settings, usage, and other factors.)
