Really beautiful lens, sharp edge to edge, produces beautiful clear and sharp images. Only problem is that it's a bit heavy.

I am a Nikon user since 1998, and I recommend this Nikkor to anyone who likes to create beautiful images. I have been using F2.8 zooms (which are great performers) but recently i am moving into primes. These new generations of F1.4 primes are simply awesome. I am very impressed with brightness, beautiful colors, and fast accurate operations. Built quality is top as well. BTW, I also own Leica summicrons and I am very very much impressed with this Nikkor 35mm F1.4 prime. Get this Nikkor and try it out at F1.4 and you will see what I mean. Lots of people says gears don't make you better photographer, but you should try this lens and compare the results with what you have been getting with other cheaper lens. Thanks to Nikon engineers!

Portraiturist. Just purchased this lens. I must say, I am blown away with its sharpness, colour rendition, LOW light performance and clarity. Very few if any editing touches needed. I already own the main primes, 50, 85 1.4, 105 f2.8, VR macro, 10-24DX e.t.c. I have been considering a zoom 70-200 f 2.8 ED FL VR, but after a shoulder injury the weight and bulkiness of my D850 with the heavy Nikon DSLRs zoom lenses became an issue. I am not ready to switch to the mirrorles’s world as yet. I think, this new lens is a partial solution. The 35mm focal length is practical, I am tired of 50mm, just want to try something different. It is said, it is not recommended for a portraiture due to a distortion, however the closeups look wonderful to me. For groups, insides small spaces, environmental portraits, nature shots, the weekend walks and hikes - this lens is ever so versatile and practical. Seems cooperate well with D850, too. So far, ever so happy with it!

Wow! I had read the reviews raving about this lens, but for the price, i thought, "well just how good can it be?' So I took the plunge and bought it and am so glad I did. My portraits are the best I've ever taken, largely because of the incredibly beautiful depth of field bokeh this lens is capable. Super sharp from edge to edge! It is my go-to lens and pretty much never leaves my D850. Highly recommend it if it's in your budget.

Great Lens, Crisp Photos, It is built very well and weight of the lens is much heavier then any other lens I have used in this range, but is a must have.

Highly recommend this lens. I’m a wedding and couples photographer and use this on my d810 all the time. Great in low light. Perfect for indoor sessions. I’ve included some random examples to show that it works on just about anything you’re trying to shoot.

Beautiful lens. Great rendering, and bokeh. No microadjust issues on my Nikon D850. Just wish the box was packaged better so that there was less jostling during shipping.

I FINALLY got this lens. Have used it while second shooting for a good friend a few times, and finally bit the bullet and purchased one of my own. This, paired with my 85, is probably my favorite combo.

I have the 35 f1.4 AIS and this lens. This lens has far superior image quality than the MF version. You pay the price in size however but after looking at the images, you know it's worth it and that's what it all comes down to. A few things to note about this lens. It is a plastic body, so is prone to some damage if banged around too much. The lens is an AF-S G lens, so it will not work on MF bodies as the aperture defaults to f22 which won't be too useful. The AFS is the micro motor style instead of the ring so the AF is slow compared to the 24-70 f2.8. The focus throw is pretty short so this doesn't matter too much. A great performer on modern bodies although it's much bigger than previous Nikon 35mm primes.

I have the Nikon fast zooms (24-70mm f2.8 and 14-24mm f2.8, but have found this lens to be a much more useful lens to keep on my D850 camera. High resolution for the D850 is ideal.

Larger and heavier than a 50mm, but it covers the same “territory” and also lets you get great shots in close quarters. Unless I need a telephoto, this is usually the first lens I reach for.

Sharp, responsive, quiet, great bokeh, what isn't there to love about this lens, except the price. I haven't taken it off since receiving it.

I've only had the lens for about a week and half but have used it enough to just feel how responsive it is to automated focus. The lens feels heavier than I expected. I have carpel tunnel so for me, that's important to note, but its not so heavy that I would not use it. Its a great lens and one that I've been most looking forward to purchasing!

I debated between the Nikon 35 1.4 and the Sigma. After renting both, I decided to spend the extra money on Nikons version and I'm SO glad I did. Worth every penny!

I bought this lens after a Sigma Art 35m debacle where I had not one, but two (after demanded a replacement from the company) Sigmas with severe back focus. I was way over it so I traded it in and bought this lovely lens. It is almost perfect in every way. While it has a faster focus than the Sigma, I wish it were even faster for the dark dance floors BUT this thing is SHARP and has the most wonderful depth to it. I've taken it all the way down to 1.4 for portraits and they were still as sharp as could be. Totally in love and rarely leaves my 2nd camera body. If you are debating between this and Sigma, it's no contest!

Small, light... the perfect balance between focusing on your subject and engaging the background to tell the full story. It's an amazing lens. I was hesitant. The cost is substantial but anything this good is. I went back and forth and back and forth until I closed my eyes and swiped the card. I could not be happier. In fact, I've transitioned away from most my zooms (sold them). I've gone through and really studied the range(s) at which most photos were taken and found they all tend to fall in at 35, 50, 85, 105, and 200. I guess there's a reason Nikon makes those primes right? Changing to primes elevates your work and forces you to be a better photographer. It gets you involved in what your shooting instead of keeping you on the outside. When that happens you grow as an artist. People that talk about focus issues and clarity on any of the top of the line prime lenses most likely haven't shot enough with it and/or understand depth of field and how to use their camera to it's full potential. Sure every company, lens and camera lineup have duds but I have not come across any lens in the nikon lineup that wasn't tack sharp when used correctly. BUY THIS LENS!

Before I start to review this lens, I would like to reveal a little about my photography background. I shoot Nikon, Canon and Fuji... I know most of the reviews on this lens are quite good. That's only because this is one of the best 35mm lens Nikon knows how to make. It's way better than the old 35mm f/2 AF... I have a habit of comparing lens since I shoot several platforms. I'm regretted to inform you that this 35mm f/1.4g is not very sharp among other things compared to Canon's 35mm f/2 IS USM or the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art series. If you are thinking about getting a 35mm f/1.4, take me advise, skip this one and go for the Sigma f/1.4 art.

I've had the 35mm f/1.4G for a couple of years and still enjoy using it as when I first bought it. I love the smooth bokeh when aperture is wide open though there's color fringing on the out of focus portion of an image, it doesn't take away from the exceptional sharpness and clarity in detail it produces. This is the third prime lens I purchased as I transitioned away from zoom lenses to accompany my 24mm f/1.4G and 85mm f/1.4G. I've used the 35mm f/1.4G to photograph sports and corporate events to impress clients. I especially enjoy using it to photograph my Pomeranian during our walks and travels together. Should you find yourself in the position to owning the 35m f/1.4G, you will not be disappointed with the results. It's versatile for photographing everything from open spaces of the outdoors to inside close quarters of a small room. Overall it's a pleasure to use and hope you get to experience and capture wonderful images to share.

Perfect Focal Length Excellent Sharpness

I own the 24f1.4 AF-S, 50f1.4 AF-S and the 85f1.4 AF-S, adding the 35f1.4 AF-S made me realize how just right this focal length. It is wide enough but not too wide, which makes it more versatile than the 50 and 24 mentionned above. It is very sharp. Very well built, just like the other ones except for the 50f1.4 AF-S. Autofocus is faster than the 85, 50 and the 24 at least indoors. For me this is clearly the sweet of the bunch.
Magical!

This is by far my favorite Nikkor lens. I own a range of zoom and fast primes, but, the 35G lives on my camera most of the time. I do love 24G and 85G, but for versatility and image quality, I always fall back to this focal length. The 24G is fantastic, but for closeup shots, distortion can get ugly. The 35G has magical bokeh with slightly exaggerated perspective that sets itself apart from the 50 and 85. When I go through the images in my lightroom, I can always pick out the ones shot with t...
