I can only add to the positive reviews of Nikon's warranty policy and customer service. We had a 6 year old pair that got beaten up on many bird watching expeditions, and we sent them to Nikon for repairs. Nikon promptly replaced them under the warranty at no charge. They're great binoculars and Nikon's warranty and customer service were terrific.

These are an affordable well made binocular. Easy to adjust for you vision with a clear field of view. They fell good in my hands as well. this binocular came with a harness but I would have preferred a more modern standard around the neck holder. all in all I like this bino and believe it will give good years of service.

I destroyed my previous pair of binoculars so needed new ones. These are perfect for what I need them for. They are lightweight and crystal clear. There are some issues around the edge of light objects in direct sun, but I don’t have $2,500 to spend on binoculars to avoid them. For the money, these are fantastic.

I expected better from Nikon, the optics are good but the eyepeice covers that protect these very valuable optics are a total piece of junk! the part for the eyepieces isn't even the right size it falls off and the caps that are supposed to protect the view ends fall open constantly. Making caps to fit and protect your product should not be rocket science. I guess they hope you get them scratched up quickly and have to order a new pair. If I were going to do this over again I'd spend a little more money and buy Leica, at least then you get a product with some care engineered into it

I'm very happy with these binoculars. I will admit that I am not well versed in binoculars. I bought these sight unseen, just trusting reviews. I considered the Nikon Prostaff or Monarch 3 but since I could not see any of them in person, I went with the more highly regarded model. Things I noticed after a few days of real use compared to shortcomings of my old binos: Clear view right out to the edges. No lens flare when the sun is in front of me. No chromatic aberration when subject is back-lit. No distracting reflections from nearby lights when used at night. Brighter under low light conditions. Actually, brighter all the time, a much cleaner view, easier to see details. Like others, I was not thrilled with the lens caps. They are handy, but I was used to taking off my caps and throwing them in my bag. Now I have caps hanging. I got used to it though and now like them. If you need the eye piece caps to stay on more securely in your bag, wrap the strap around them and the hinge, then squeeze the bino halves tighter together to trap the strap. The big question on everyone's mind... 8x or 10x?? Well, I wanted two pairs so I got one of each. I got 10x for backyard use and 8x for outings, including rowboat fishing. With both powers in hand, it's still impossible to choose. The 10x are very slightly less bright. It is noticeable at dusk when switching back and forth, but not really a significant difference. Both are still brighter than my old binos. The 10x's lesser field of view does not bother me, no issues for me scanning the tree line for wildlife. The image is bigger with the 10x, but with slightly more shake on the 10x, it's a wash compared to the 8x to discern fine details in most situations. The 10x will give you a small advantage in identifying a distant animal, but handheld, neither pair will be better at confirming what is in his mouth. Discerning those fine details just becomes a wash because of shake. Same for reading distant signs, I lose the ability to read them at the same distance with either power. You won't regret either power, but I think if I could only keep one pair it would be the 8x since I have some boat use. Both work well with my eye glasses, although I still prefer to lift my glasses. If you will be using from a boat, definitely get the 8x. Otherwise, its your choice. If you are really agonizing, get the 8x. No downside at all to choosing 8x. I am happy with my choice of 10x for land use and 8x for use on water.

Bought this Bino to use for birding and other general purpose uses. They are well built and of fine quality. Unless you NEED to buy an expensive pair for only the best optics money can buy, I seem to think you really cant beat the Monarch 5. Recommended.

My wife and I have went on a few birding tours with a veteran birder who used this series of bins and recommended spending a little extra for bins which will last 20 plus years. The clarity of view is extraordinary and very bright even in low light. Easy to reset focus for various distances and very light. I definitely recommend these bins and glad I took a veteran's advise.

These binoculars are perfect for bird-watching! The 8X47 offers wide viewing and doesn't jump around like the 10X or higher. She (and I) recommend the Nikon 8X42 Monarch 5 for beginners as well as the Semi-Pro and Pro hobbyists. She loved my gift! Adorama was great to deal with: fast delivery, well packaged, exactly to order with no surprises. Just do it!

Guys, this is not a technical comment but a Feelings comment. I really liked this binoculras. I just purchased 2 weeks ago and was fascinated for the clarity of the images under very low light conditions. The other thing that make me give it 5 stars is the easy to adjust to my eyes with or without glasses. Finally, the compactness and robustness of this binos make them a killing competitor on this price range.
