I bought this to fit a Shimoda Explore 35V2, and it fits perfectly and holds exactly what I bought it to hold, and more if I choose to grow my collection/kit. I like having the option of the side access, but I currently don't use that feature. At the moment, I keep a Nikon Z5II, a Z 24-120mm F4, Z 70-180mm F2.8, Z 50mm F1.8, Z28mm F2.8, and a Z 40mm F2, with lens hoods, shutter remote, and lens cleaning tools, fluid, air blower, and cloths in the unit. I have room to change the lens on the camera and put it back in the unit with any lens on that I listed above. I could probably fit 1 or 2 more lenses in there if needed (and still be able to store the camera with any lens on the camera), after I get some other lenses that I would like to have. I believe I could fit a Z 100-400mm in there and possibly 1 of either a 35mm, 85mm,105mm or maybe a Tameron 70-300mm in there in the future, in addition to what I already have in there. I do wish that they would include the divider kit option that makes it so you can divide it into 3 equal columns within the unit, but you can buy that kit for around 25 dollars separately if needed (which I did), and it comes with a pocket too. I was able to make the 3 columns, shelves that I can open and close to divide parts of the column (separating the top from the bottom of the column), with a lens laying flat on the bottom, and accessories on the top, and made shelves for the short lenses to sit on so I don't have to reach so far down to get them. The Velcro is super strong, and will not move once you place the dividers and press it in. All together, it was around $100 to set it up the way I wanted it, which is a little expensive, but it is definitely worth it being able to use the Shimoda Explore 35V2 with this setup. It makes all the difference being able to grab the backpack and know I have everything I need to go on a photography adventure, and not wish I had been able to bring something that wouldn't fit, or have to makeshift something to get everything in the bag. Everything is easy in and out, the unit itself is light and very sturdy and very well made, and my camera gear stays put in the unit!

Works well with the x50 bag I bought and was super easy to customize. Fits my Pentax 645nii nicely.

It mostly excels at fitting the Shimoda pack precisely. As an icu it my needs but I don't typically carry a ton of gear. As others have pointed out in the past, the side access is not as easy with the Shimoda Explorer 30.

Overall build/material quality seems good and has held up so far. I'm able to just squeeze in my camera body and three lenses. Gear used is the r5, 15-35, 24-70 and 70-200. If you have other gear that you'd like to live in a core unit you might thinking about adding the single core unit to the mix.

Works great with my bag
By Robert
Works well with the x50 bag I bought and was super easy to customize. Fits my Pentax 645nii nicely.
Version 2 of the Medium Mirrorless Core Unit has been revised to allow use of the Action-X side camera access. The new side access point integrate with our new Action-X30 and X50 backpacks and features all the popular features of our current Core Unit system, including EVA laminated dividers and sidewalls, multi-use dust cover, and a new frame to add extra shape and support to the insert. The Mirrorless depth is ideal for Non-gripped bodies and smaller.
Mirrorless/DSLR Camera Fit
The Medium Mirrorless Core Unit V2 is designed for photographers who use smaller to mid-size camera equipment. It is sized to accommodate professional Mirrorless or mid-size DSLR body heights, and the shorter depth allows for more efficient packing scenarios and leads to a lower profile with your backpack. The Mirrorless size is ideal for cameras like Sony a7 series but it can also accommodate the similar dimensions of the Canon 5D.
Modular Stacking
The Medium Mirrorless Core Unit V2 Unit allows a user the option to stack a Small Core Unit on top of the Medium -- creating similar volume to a Large insert. By doing this you can have greater range of owning both Medium and Small Core Units. For example: you have the option of using just the Small Unit, just a Medium Unit, or using both together to equal a Large Core Unit volume.
Quick Side Camera Access
The Medium Mirrorless Core Unit V2 features an integrated side access. You can now have full rear-access and side-access at the same time with our new design. The side door connects to the backpack's side-panel door and operates seamlessly.
Protective EVA Shell and Dividers
Our Core Unit walls and dividers are constructed with EVA. This ensures much greater protection than cheaper PE foams used in most camera bags. With EVA we have greater control over the density and quality of materials used to protect your gear. It also means our walls can be thinner and use less internal volume while still providing superior protection.
We chose to laminate both the Jersey exterior shell and Tricot lining to the EVA. This makes the overall unit and dividers one piece which leads to a tighter design eliminates any sloppiness with the fastening of dividers. The shape of the actual divider tabs has a unique inward taper. This simple concept makes setting up the Core Unit and adjusting in the field much easier as it limits the catching of the fastener while inserting the divider.
Light-Weight, Water-Repellant & Multipurpose Skin
The Core Unit has a multi-purpose cover designed to be light and packable. The shell material has water-resistant PU coating and meets C6 environmental standards. The Skin's primary function is a storage case for the padded Core Units, ideal for when your gear is at home and not in use. It keeps the Core Unit sealed and dust free. Its secondary function is to use as a packing cell. A user can fill it with clothing or other common items and pack it in their backpack or carry-on roller. It offers an extra layer of organization to your workflow and travel transitions. It's also very handy for keeping wet and dirty gear separated.
